You're a freakin rockstar Tracey! Thanks so much for the clear instruction, and for keeping it "rookie-level" enough for those of getting started!

Great video as per normal. Thats a really clever idea (that Im going to have to steal) so kudos Tracey. Love the helmet and look forward to seeing it completed. Good luck with the 500 subscribers

Glad it was helpful and it's not stealing if I'm sharing ☺️ we are all here to learn together. All the ideas are not brand new concepts just something I saw talked about and decided to test out and I like sharing it if can help you guys and you may not be aware either. This helmet is in a bit of the backlog at the moment. Working on my Wonder Women sword build at the moment and nearly finished printing the Moon Knight armour so these will probably be first!

I wish I had found this video a few days ago. I watched a video, did everything the person told me and the helmet I started printing was definitely never going to fit my head and I could not figure out what I did wrong or what I missed...but this is so genius and I'm really grateful

Sizing can definitely be a challenge! Sometimes I don't get it right either. Hopefully this might be an easier way for you, make sure you let me know how you get on! I like to do this then print a test ring (detailed in my other video on scaling helmets).

@@AstrocyteCosplay So far so good! I am having to print the top half of the helmet in quarters because of size of my bed but what I've had going so far looks really good.
@AstrocyteCosplay Жыл бұрын
Awesome! So glad to hear that 😊 what helmet are you printing and what printer do you have?

This is absolutely brilliant and the thing I have struggled the most with is sizing helmets, fantastic idea

Glad it's helpful. No method is perfect but all tools to help us. Can combine different methods. Make sure you check out my other video too on sizing as it might help as well. Good luck!

@@AstrocyteCosplay Assume something similar could be done for gloves and forearm braces etc using a model of a hand or even arm.
@AstrocyteCosplay2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm sure that definitely possible and worth testing out. I personally haven't tried that yet. I tend to measure with cosplay calipers and Meshmixer for those type of armour pieces.

With that head model. when you put in the Z size for your head wouldn't that be a little bit off because that model has a neck where measuring your head its from chin to top of head?
@AstrocyteCosplay Жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. With a lot of the helmets I'm not normally as worried about the z as I scale with uniform measurements (to keep portions looking correct) so as long as X and Y fit that's the main thing I am worried about. You can definitely factor in the neck section if you want it to be more accurate.

Tracey have you tried photogrammetry or LiDar on the mobile phone, there great for getting precision fitted masks, helmets or facial applications. Some android phones have both LiDar & photogrammetry while iphone has LiDar most models...its not just good for a head mesh model but great for scanning other rl things that you may want a copy of.
@AstrocyteCosplay2 жыл бұрын
I have android phones (currently have a Google pixel 6) and haven't found an app I like yet. All seem you have to pay to download the model or don't do a very good job. I have tried a few. All the good ones seem to be apple due to the LiDar mode. If you have any you recommend please let me know and I can try it out. I just grabbed Polycam but haven't tried it out yet.

thanks for the guide. One question, the Y measurement of the stl of the head includes the neck, right? but you have only measured the head
@AstrocyteCosplay2 жыл бұрын
Yes correct in this case. I wasn't too worried as I use uniform scaling with helmets so portions look correct. As long as front to back and side to side fit I am happy enough. You could cut the bottom of the neck off the head model in Meshmixer if you would prefer it a bit more accurate. There is a tutorial on cutting files on the channel if you need some help.

Of course you don't need a 3D scanner to do a 3D scan. Just use a normal camera and Reality Capture.
@AstrocyteCosplay2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I haven't heard of this one. Will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.
@3DJapan2 жыл бұрын
@@AstrocyteCosplay There are several photogrammetry options, some are free, but I find Reality Capture to be the easiest/nicest and still pretty cheap, usually less than a dollar a scan and you only pay when you save out the model so if the scan didn't come out good you don't have to pay.
@AstrocyteCosplay2 жыл бұрын
That sounds pretty good. I have been looking for a good option on Android but haven't found anything decent yet. Either have to pay heaps for the model or they just don't work.
