Geometric Quilt. I like your quilts, and I think that one would make a beautiful table topper for my small round table. Thank you for your videos.

I learned to Quilt from Mary Ellen Hopkins (and the Crazy Ladies and Friends)books and patterns in the 80s. I love her. Thanks for always sharing such useful information with a detailed explanations. I appreciate how much you care about what we learn.

One of the quilt sites i follow uses the same colors when making sample blocks. Such as blues and yellows, red, white and blue, etc. Then when she gets enough she has another top ready.

I plan to do this with all of my BOB dies from Accuquilt quilt. I just have to stop starting other projects first!

Yes! That's a tip I learned from Megan Ellinger of Tiny Orchard Quilts. Such a good idea!

Thanks for the drawing of the different layouts-it will help me keep in mind numbers for those on-point layouts! When a project gets frustrating and you decide you don’t want to finish, you can rethink it and stop at one of these numbers and use what you have already done into a different project. On-point layouts seem intimidating, but they aren’t hard, especially if you have a design board to help keep the rows in order. You just have to keep track of how you cut the setting triangles so the bias edges are in the right place to avoid stretching things out of shape. I find starch is my friend for on point quilts too. Gravity (and your hands) can put stress on the bias when the quilt is being assembled on point even when the outer edges of your blocks are straight of grain, which can throw the quilt out of square.

This is really helpful for me right now. I am working on putting together 16 blocks from a guild swap. Struggling with some of the colors.

I’m going to see if any of my orphan blocks can be made into seasonal pillows. Two years ago I took my orphan blocks and made 25 doll quilts, then donated them to a toy drive (I checked first to see if they would take them). They were delighted to have them! A Win Win situation!

I was gifted a "Farmer's Dog" dog food box filled with fabric. I'm going to be busy with quilt making for a long time with all of the fabric that came in from my friend's mother and our friend's stash. Both ladies have passed, but left loads of their own stash behind. I just made a 3 yard quilt with some of those fabrics. There's enough fabric to make a couple more! Geometric Fun! That's cool!

I like to sort my orphan blocks into similar colors / themes .... I then like to make GYPSY WIFE style of quilts but using a co-coordinating stripe fabric instead of sewing fabric strips together to make the columns .... I find it faster and easier but get the same look.

I see a LOT of videos of people cutting fabric using the lines on the mat. I was taught and then, years later, taught to use the ruler for precise cutting. The mat lines were only to be considered “guides.” Your opinion? Btw, my husband and I LOVE your opinions!
@theopinionatedquilter26 күн бұрын
Even the Olfa rep says mats are for cutting and rulers are for measuring. Always use your ruler. Thanks for watching.
