I really like watching you sew. I am very enamored of your "use it up" attitude! Helpful in these times. It is what I am trying to do right now.

Hi Beth, I started out making small table mats/ table spreads. It was fun..to help me get started in quilting, until I could make bigger quilts. I'm a new beginning in quilting for almost 2 years this year the end of May 2022. Your spreads are beautiful.

Oh boy! I have mostly* learned to check my tension before I go too far. I hate ripping out! The quilting on the last solid color mat really helped to soften the look of it! Beautiful mats, I am sure they will raise lots of money at your auction. I have practiced free motion quilting using paper. It's sure isn't as easy as it looks!

Why do you use a single fold on the binding? Would a double fold stick up too much? I couldn't tell when you were hand stitching, but do you tack down the open parts on the front and back of the corners? Thanks.
@bethshibleyquilts2 жыл бұрын
single fold seems less bulky and I don't think these little table toppers need to hold up to the wear and tear of a quilt. I do not tack the corners. 👍
@kimberlyhanley59052 жыл бұрын
Instead of hand stitching, is it possible to machine stitch the final bind on the back?
@bethshibleyquilts2 жыл бұрын
👍 yes

You can always slow it down yourself by clicking on the gear and selecting a slower video speed. I do enjoy watching how Beth quilts too! I hope this tip helps you!

When I'm sewing the binding strips together I frequently either sew them so that the seam is the wrong direction or twisted. Any tips? I'm not sure why I sometimes can do these with no issue and the next time it takes me 5 times to get it right!! @mysewingroom
@bethshibleyquilts2 жыл бұрын
😐 I think it just takes practice.
@itsmelaura15332 жыл бұрын
Are you trying to direct the material towards the needle rather than letting the machine do it or perhaps pulling from the back? It might be in the way you guide the material. I have a tendency to slant mine and need to correct that.
@pst47wings2 жыл бұрын
No, the issue seems to be both the way I line up my strips and the angle is sometimes the wrong direction.
@joydavis30892 жыл бұрын
Sorry you had to rip that out, but dang those feathers were fabulous
@delilahterrell48772 жыл бұрын

@shirleythomas63772 жыл бұрын
I noticed you quilt all in the same direction, is there a reason?
@bethshibleyquilts2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what direction you are referring to....was it the free motion? I think I just go the way my brain is comfortable going. 🙃
