The cross stitched/embroidered quilt is absolutely amazing! This is a big reason why I quilt for myself now. People do not know, care, or simply appreciate the time you put into an item. I got tired of spending money and time stressingboutniver the perfect color, pattern, and then making something, to only get an, "Oooh...thank you", as they set it to the side, and probably put it in a giveaway pile.

Sadly, our local thrift stores have high priced items. Some are close to the price of buying brand new, only with brand new you get a warranty! I loved the cross stitch. It is sad that it ended up in a thrift store so I am glad that you are the one who rescued it. You know the time, consideration and love handmade items have invested into them. When I go to Goodwill or other types of thrift stores, one of the first things I look for is sheets. Sometimes I get a great price, like a dollar, for king size, all cotton flat sheets. They always provide me with a large amount of very good quality cotton. I also look for large dresses and men's shirts to cut down for quilt pieces. Your thrift store jaunt has helped inspire me more. Thanks Beth. I love watching your videos.

What did I like best, you ask? The needlepoint (I would vote cushion too) and the wool sweater with red pattern at hem, which I would be tempted to felt then make into things like a beanie and mittens. Have fun with all the fabric! As for the quilts breaking someone’s heart, well I knew more than a few quilters who weren’t prepared to deal with their stash and UFOs and it all ended up burdening their families when they passed - you can’t expect them to cherish every scrap and need to respect their need to set limits. Donating a quilt is not throwing it away, it is hoping that someone who needs it will find it. Even if they cut it up into a coat!

That first quilt, in the intro,... SnowBall quilt - I like how the snowballs, could be a fussy cut area...or a great space for a charm pack that you don't want to cut apart, due to the large scale prints! Also, yesterday, I rescued a beautifully crocheted blanket, in gorgeous greens, soft reds, creams...for $6... it looked barely used... I just washed it up,...and it will live its best life, on my back covered deck, when I decorate for Christmas out there... it will get used too, as we love to have our firetable on, when it is snowing,..and have eggnog out there!

Thank you Beth! Always enjoy your quilting adventures. The cross-stitched quilt was probably a Paragon quilt. Paragon made affordable kits across many decades; I have three generations of items my family members made using them. I have an all brown cross stitch tablecloth my mother made for Thanksgiving. Colonial revival style from the early 60’s. If you look online searching under Paragon you might even find whole kits for sale. But you can certainly find this pattern and name. It reminds me of the earliest American colonial designs popular at Williamsburg and across New England. I’ll look also and let you know if I find it.

It is hard to see quilts in bins at thrift stores. But, there’s no way to know the life circumstances that result in quilts being donated. My hope is that these quilts are found by people who will treasure them. Some people may not have the financial means to buy a brand new quilt. Others may not have the time or resources to make quilts, even if they dream of doing so. Beth, the embroidery quilt was an amazing find! 🎉

Unless I’m fully successful in my Swedish Death Quilting, someone will hit the mother load of my fabric. I find lots of Ann Taylor my way. And finding NWT, stuff is always a bonanza. Because I’m cheap, my professional wear was purchased off season and was always classic styles and beautiful fabrics. I have some clothes that are 30 years old.

Our local Goodwill outlet is $2.09 now per pound for things from the bins. Glass, china and books have their own prices. I own a white featherweight sewing machine now with a liberal application of red glitter nail polish! That came off easily and didn’t hurt the finish. It even had its original bobbin case and a bobbin! No cord but I think it ran about $11 !!!!!!!! I haven’t found such pretty sheets, but I definitely find the big ones that are solid color. I’m so thankful you rescued that brown quilting. I wish it had had some kind of label on the back so you had a little information about it. It breaks my heart to see stuff like that just tossed.
