Exactly, they prey on the vulernable, it is shit. This is also similar to coincidental scamming. A perfect example is a fake UPS extra tax payment on a delivery type fake email, but on the same day you're expecting a delivery from UPS, so it makes total sense. However, obviously if you haven't bought anything it's clearly fake. When you're in the moment, you just think not much of it because it lines up with your expectations of what could happen.

Fair play to this guy. He wanted to be on the right side of the law, got himself trained (which probably cost him), and couldn't get a job. He must have retrained in IT to be good enough to do the legal hacking. But on seeing how things went, instead of either taking the site down and thinking that he nearly got in over his head, or - as would undoubtedly be the case for some people, as intelligence doesn't equate to having common sense or even a sense of morality - actually becoming a hitman. Your past stories include plenty of examples of people who would have done that! Good for him, I hope he is successful in whatever he's doing for a living.

That beginning segment on people who just “live in the moment” and never think of the consequences is beautifully done. There are a shocking amount of people who live life this way. They usually end up as drug addicts.

I love reading up on cases that involved this website. Every single one is solid gold for some reason or another. There's just something hilarious, frightening, and sad about the sort of person who is the right combination of homicidal, brain dead, and lacks the get-up-and-go to do the job themselves that makes for a real interesting person to me. And yes, even the dark ones. Interesting doesn't mean always just hilarious.

I didn't know this guy went to the police academy at Napa Valley College! Did you know that NVC is right across the highway from the historic Napa State Hospital, a psychiatric hospital run by the state for the purpose of rehabilitating people who are temporarily unfit to be tried for a crime or successfully used an insanity defense after committing a crime. Patients used to wander over to the college campus all the time. At least pre-2008...
