Story 1; Rule #1 in a Gym- NEVER touch another person’s equipment when they are in the middle of using it!!!! It is dangerous and I’m pretty sure they knew it and hoped gaslighting OP would make them miss that. Go back and file a complaint or go over their heads and report them to higher management. This is 100 unacceptable behaviour and NO professional trainer would do this.

Agreed! I’ve been to gyms and have my certificate in fitness and know not to touch someone’s machine when you don’t know the client using it. I’ve learnt in my course that each individual in the gym has different things they need to work on for their bodies to lose weight or build muscle mass like if I was training with op I’d suggest the bike and treadmill first to get a base line of their abilities to cope with exercise if they can’t do more than treadmill and bike to start with id keep them on those machines for a little while then when they tell me they think their confident enough or I think they’re confident enough I start to guide them to new machines to help with weight loss but under any circumstances I would not push the speed up on the machine without the clients consent or knowledge whilst working out this is hugely unacceptable for any trainer to do I am overweight too and if I had someone do this to me I’d be pissed off to the maximum level of pissed off because this is seriously dangerous I hope the op took it further

YES! especially if he's an actual "trainer" this fucker SHOULD KNOW BETTER. I have scars from a treadmill, those things are already not the safest... Not to mention... you don't know what joint issues someone has. I can walk or maybe speedwalk. It's been like this since I had to quit dance (back then I was a size 8 and got no flack for my slow pace... but as I got heavier from mental health issues and meds now people have no issue telling me I need to jog. If I jog, I'm going to need crutches or cortisol injections to not be in pain)

Pretty sure that the blame being put on OP in story #1 is because the gym is hoping to cover up their liability. If they make OP feel like she is in the wrong then it won't occur to her that she can cause them a world of hurt legally.

No, they simply don't want her to work out there. She is stuck for the length of her membership no matter what. But now, they don't want her to actually work out there. I worked at a gym long ago as a trainer, good looking fit people won't join a gym with a bunch of fat unattractive people working out at it. Without the hot attractive fit people, other people won't join. It's a nasty, toxic, business model.

BTW, the worst was maybe 10 lb overweight. The most senior of these women was a supervisor at my company. I told her I would have taken his name and called the next day to talk to his boss. I'm pretty sure op had a fantasy moment at the gym. I was a serious gym rat for many many years, literally having multiple memberships at the same time. In all those years and all those gyms...NEVER, NOT ONCE have I ever seen someone touch another person's equipment while in use. And, as a manager of a shop, I'll promise you IF anyone would have put another person in danger, they would have been put on notice. Many years ago, before I knew her, a dear friend, with kids, became homeless, after fleeing an abusive marriage. She let her sister persuade her to let her kiddos live there, 'till she got on her feet. Sister immediately applied for custody, and got it. Friend was never able to get her children back... had to pay child support, and got infrequent visitation! Don't let them have your kids, OP!
@eph2vv89only1way
@eph2vv89only1way 2 жыл бұрын
Yup. Leaving the child(ren) with someone else is considered abandonment, regardless of the reason. My ex’s brother’s wife left her first husband because he hit her. Since he never hit the kids she left them with him because he had a secure job and she didn’t. When she was more secure she tried to get custody but was denied on the grounds of abandonment. Not even joint custody.
@x.s5162
@x.s5162 2 жыл бұрын
If you don't go and get a temporary guardianship document then it is considered abandonment and the other parent(if one) or family members can seek custody. ALWAYS GET LEGAL DOCUMENTS. No matter how much you think you can trust someone get it in legal writing so there can't be any wiggle room. The temporary guardianship document has a legal date(usually 6months) you must come get the kids or file for a new temporary guardianship (if judge allows). Prenup, business agreement, family borrowing money, anything get it in legal writing (notorizing something is free most place and cheap at others)

1st Story-NTA. Forget them deciding if you get to stay or not, that's definitely not the place for you (or anyone else) imo! Best thing for you to do is demand a complete refund of any money you've paid them and use that money to pay for a gym that doesn't demean you, endanger you, and then gaslight you about it! BTW- i find heavier people who have made the decision that you have and move forward with it to be a complete inspiration. It is ridiculously hard to do, and the courage and willpower on display is amazing to me. Best of luck to you.

Story 1 - NTA. I'm no gym expert. But I don;t think it takes half a brain to know that what that man did was dangerous. OP could have been injured far worse than just a sprained wrist. And how dare that gym completely overlook that fact that she flippin' FELL in the first place, because of that ridiculous unwanted 'Help.' I'd say if the membership is terminated, good to be honest. You don't need to be part of a gym like that... with trains like that on staff and managers who won't darn well listen! Unless OP lives in some tiny town with only one, then this might be a wonderful reason to find and try a new one

My personal trainer says that you can't go fast when starting out you gotta pace yourself first 10 minutes a day on trendmill even at a walking pace is a great leg warm up for bike excercise. But also she spent an hour on the bike and was in a cool down trendmill walk. This helps the muscles wind down. The guy was an ass not her.
@thomasjoseph5876
@thomasjoseph5876 2 жыл бұрын
I used to be a trainer at a gym. Let me explain to you what is actually happening here. What the guy did was NO MISTAKE. He was intentionally trying to ruin her workout and thus her day. She is a fat person. Fat people working out at gyms hurt their reputation and thus, their bottom line. Fat people, especially in workout gear, are unattractive. Attractive people will not buy gym memberships where fat unattractive people are at. They sold her a 6 month or 1-year membership which she is obligated to pay no matter what. But they don't want her to actually come there to work out. They want her to become disillusioned and frustrated and then not come back. It's really that simple in their minds. Chances are Corporate not only knows about this, but pushes it as well. It's all about money and reputation. Now, don't kill me, I am merely the person supplying the info that I know of from working at a Gym for a whole 8 months until I couldn't take the crap they gave us and expected us to believe it. Stuff like this is just the tip of the iceberg. By all means, don't be an attractive female trainer who is popular with the guys and then end up pregnant. You will be fired for some stupid reason. There are a lot more things like that. If you want access to virtually any illegal drug, make friends at the gym.

Additionally, it shouldn't be assumed that someone in a gym is there just to lose weight. Changing someones workout suddenly because they _"wont lose any weight like that"_ is... ridiculous. Lots of people do _"easy mode"_ exercises at the gym to strengthen muscles up after injuries, with walking slow on a treadmill being a common one. *Guy fucked up, and could have done **_serious_** damage.*

Also the ADHD brain's frontal lobes, that effects executive functions (but not intellect) are less developed than non-ADHD brains. it can genuinely be a huge hurdle to even START to do a task when you have ADHD. these are things we still struggle with even while on our life-changing medication.

The son coming out story- NAH-mom tried to get him to hold on because her attention was on the meal preparation and impending guests. He could not wait and told her something very significant but his timing was not good, he was aware that Mom had company coming and could have said "mom I need to talk to you about something important" and then they could have scheduled time for such a big reveal. I don't think any of them were AH's. If the mom had then been using some of the languaging she used in her distracted state ,then she might have been TA.

OK my opinion on the son coming out gay, and not liking mom's reaction. Here is my story. When my twins were 12, as we were eating,, my daughter said "hey mom, can you pass the peas, and oh did I tell you I'm a lesbian?" I passed the peas, told her no she hadn't. Told her she know I love her no matter what, and dinner went on. When my daughter was 16 my she came to me and brought up the time she "came out" said she loved me so much and I was the best mom, because I didn't make a big deal about it, and she was happy she was raised with the understanding that we love whom we love. She then told me about her friends recent experience. When her friend told her mom, the mom lost it saying she was a sinner and would burn in hell. Now, the friend mother told her she was sending her to conversion camp. So, she again thanked me for being me. Now, I am in no way saying that OP was right or wrong. I am just saying that OP probably felt it didn't matter who her son loved, and she excepted him no matter what. But, OP should have stopped for a moment and at least said to her son "I am happy you felt comfortable sharing this with me. I am proud of you no matter who you love. How about we talk more about this after our guest leave. That would have taken all of a few seconds, and would have let him know she heard him, loves and accepts him, and want to talk more. Instead of the response she gave. Son also needs to realize how lucky he is to have a loving and accepting mom. Her reaction could have been the one my daughters friend got from her parents. Now for a moment to go back to my daughters friend. She was 17 when she told her mom. Her mom was sending in June (2016) a week after the girl turned 18. Her friend came to me desperate and upset. I told her that when she turned 18, she was welcome to come stay with us until she left for college that fall (she had a full academic ride), and that her mom could not legally force her to go as she will be an adult by then. Needless to say when the girl left on her birthday and moved in with us,, her mom lost it and demanded I send her daughter back. I told her those conversion camps were horrible and abused the kids that went there. The mom said she didn't care and was just trying to save her daughter's soul. I told her I was just trying to save her daughter's period. Throughout the summer the mom called me and begged me to kick her out. She even tried to call the police and report her daughter as a runaway, and I was "harboring " her. As soon as police found out the girls age, the told the mom to deal with it her daughter was an adult and could live anywhere she want. Never heard from her mom again. And I am proud to say the girl graduated with her Bachelors, and is in her first year of med school. She is happily married, and has not spoken to her family since her 18th birthday. She also calls me mom now. Sorry this went on. Maybe I should put the story with my daughter's friend on Reddit, but not sure where it would go. Anyway, thanks for reading my rambling.

A teenage boy was sitting alone and enjoying reading books of a certain genre. He kindly agreed to sit together. The girls made a sexist comment towards him based on what he currently was reading without regard to whether or not he also had other favorite genre types or other authors. They could've asked if he had read any female authors that also wrote within the genre that was evident on the table. Those girls could've also minded their own damn business, as agreeing to sit together was not an invitation to converse. Particularly since a library is considered a place to read and/or study without loud conversations to distract the other patrons.

I know, right? They acted like they caught him reading Mein Kampf! My response would be why does it matter who wrote the books? Didn’t MLKJ say that we should not judge off race but character content? I would extend this to men and women too. A book can be good and liked regardless of who wrote it whether man or woman. I believe you have to be looking for trouble if you take offense to the books someone is reading, with some exceptions, like the one mentioned above, and even then, mind your own business!

Came here to say something similar, the idea that whatever a person is currently reading is the only thing they read is ridiculous, I read a variety of authors and genres and I actually know next to nothing about those authors, their race, gender, sexual orientation or how they identify. I read books that I enjoy and don't really care who wrote them. When I am reading my body language is closed off and not inviting of conversation. I have been in libraries that encourage quiet and polite discussions but they remind patrons to be respectful of one another.

That mom is absolutely setting her son up to be the golden child and that daughter deserves so, so much better. when it comes to skipping grades: My sister was promoted in 3rd grade. her IQ was tested and she's genius by a good measure. Unfortunately the school dropped every single ball in terms of assistance. It was a mess socially for the long run, and academically for the first couple of years while she learned the skills she skipped in that grade. Mom decided to argue with ever having me tested to avoid them pushing to promote me a grade and instead I was put in the awful gifted program that just meant more homework and nothing to actually help me grow beyond what my peers were learning. I understood the struggles my sister went through but it sucked knowing I wouldn't have that mental challenge. I got tested in high school and my IQ also landed firmly above the genius cutoff, but not quite as high as my sister's score. Mom still refuses to accept I'm anything more than "pretty smart." The main issue with us is that mom never pushed my sister to grow and held onto the excuse of her being promoted for all her fuck-ups. "well, she has trouble being obsessive with friends because she never learned social skills..." "people with her level of genius suck at being social" "you know she acts like that because she never really had friends." "she's been jealous of you since grade school." it even got looped into forcing me to give up when my sister announced MY twin pregnancy before I even had a chance to tell all the family, much less my best friends. "she didn't think it would be a big deal, you know she never learned how to be social..." She's 38. She's been to a diagnostic psychiatrist, so its not like she has ASD and sucks with social cues. she's an ass who my mom still protects, even to the detriment of my kids- I step in and stop her nonsense and mom tells me to back off because "that's just how she is."

So, the boyfriend was a jerk, complaining that OP was not wearing makeup, so she turned it around on him, making him feel unpretty and he got butthurt? Too bad it didn’t wake him up to what he had been doing to her, but it’s hard to get through to a narcissist.

If someone keeps choosing something they care about over you, stop making them choose. Either accept that thing they love (within reason-not drugs or alcohol or cheating over the relationship) or leave the situation. If my husband I could never sing again or something like that, we’d be having a serious discussion about our relationship. If either of us asked to give up our pup (he had him when we met but the dog loves me more lol) we we probably not survive. pets are our babies. Hobbies are a part of our personality. Friends and family (again-outside of toxic relationships) are usually not something your partner should ask you to give up!

I live in California and I’d like to point out that it’s a fine for each unbuckled person and it goes onto the driving record of the driver also. In other words their insurance will also increase. If the person who is unbuckled has a license, it goes on both peoples records.

Story 1: I have a medical condition that makes working out difficult at best and it's easy for me to injure myself, if I'm not careful. I've had trainers harass me at the gym because of my workout (which is approved by my doctor and OT specialist). What that trainer did was criminal and OP should sue! What if OP was recovering from surgery? Or had a medical condition like me, he really really could have hurt OP seriously.

Disabled Sister: NTA, and I really wish the people who freaked out over the karma comment would stop over-simplifying things and arguing like children. The commenter didn't say she deserved to be disabled. They said something to the effect of "wow, that was a lot of karma", meaning they thought it was probably overkill. The opposite of what others were claiming. If you hear a cheating spouse story and the cheater gets an STD, and someone mentions karma, are you going to flip out because that implies the cheater deserved to get HIV? Of course not, because it doesn't. But when sickness or injury occur, it's like people completely lose their ability to reason, and spout off emotionally with a knee-jerk reacting instead. Not one comment I saw even suggested OP's sister deserved to become disabled, including the one about karma. Enough white-knighting, people.

A horrible neighbor of my parents did the exact same thing to a tree in my parents yard. The tree was an 80+ year old Black Walnut tree. The damage to the roots killed the tree and it cost $8000 to remove it. My parents sued the lady and won. My parents attorney had two tree experts come and look at the tree before it was removed and it was appraised at $68,000 by one appraiser and $74,000 by the other. The court ruled in my parents favor and made the neighbor pay the $8000 tree removal and cleanup and $72,000 for the tree. The court also awarded my parents $40,000 in punitive damages because of the harrassment the neighbor did after my parents complained about the tree being damaged. The neighbors insurance refused to pay the courts damages as it was a malicious act by the neighbor. She was forced to sell her home and pay the balance because the home after paying off her mortgage wasnt enough to cover the court ruling. The person who cut the tree roots in this video could possibly be looking at $100,000 + in restitution to the tree owner.

The op with the gay son, Maybe I’m wrong but she was busy making food for more than 10 people or so and her son caught her of guard while she was making sure the food didn’t burn, and from the post it seems like op was the only one cooking so her “I don’t care your gay” to me was more of a “kinda busy come back later”, rather than a “i don’t care about you”while its is scary to come out, I really don’t understand what fear he had when his family (op, her family and her ex husband don’t particularly see coming out as anything other than saying “oh hey I’m dating this person”), and when her son became upset she reassured him that she loved him, and I’m not sure what else he wanted from his mother when she was busy cooking for 10+ people. I don’t blame him for when he wanted to come out but I don’t see this as anything other than “wanting attention” (idk what else to label this as) when he could come out “safely” to his mom when the rest of his family left, from what op wrote the kitchen where op was, was very close to the rest of the family, while the family didn’t hear him come out, they did hear the rest of the conversation so op accidentally outing him would have happened anyway because they were close by. And honestly from the fight that happened what else was op supposed to say to her other children and her siblings, “he just got angry and left”.

Story 1: I think OP put it best with, “What the actual F*CK!?!” NTA and this is seriously messed up. What if you’d had knee surgery and had little to no xatiladge and falling caused damage costing you thousands to get fixed. This is NOT ok. I don’t know if it’s illegal but I can’t believe the gym isn’t taking this more seriously and firing their walking-potential-future-law-suit employee. If they keep going after OP I would sue. What he did, his reasoning, and his refusal to see how he did anything wrong means he absolutely WILL do it again because he knows he’ll get away with it, so OP HAS to change gyms following this.

Smitten Colleague: NTA. Leave him. I could give OP's husband some slack for being upset. This is not a small issue. They've been working together 2 years, and will 2 years more. It's a huge ask that OP's husband tolerates this, and under nearly all circumstances, I'd be with the husband. But given the importance of this particular project to OP's career, even such a huge ask becomes reasonable. They'd have to work out something to soothe his fears over the situation. But to insist she immediately quits even knowing the cost of such a move, OP's husband becomes instantly unreasonable. I'd be angry at this response were I OP, but would hope it was just an emotional moment. But then that wack job changed the locks, and that was the end. Double more so given OP's family doesn't like him. There's a lot of BS going on here, with the common denominator being OP's husband. Divorce. Police. Now.

The cat story: cats are VERY sensitive. Their entire body is one huge sensory organ. It is very true that putting on clothes might overstimulate them. And I do not agree, generally, to put on clothes on a cat. That said.. Every animal is an individual. And as one of those who replied said: cats are honest. They will tell you when they do not like something. That doesn't have to be scratches, tho. Make sure you know what to look for. Tail and ear activity says a lot. The individuality of cats extent to water as well. They're desert-adapted animals and do not like water.. ..generally. But some are just fine getting wet and can even start enjoying a swim or a warm soak.

definitely did NOT misjudge the cat story. if this guy even remotely loved OP, he would never tell them to get rid of their pet, especially since I'm willing to bet that it's a *therapy* cat. He has too much potential to be an animal abuser in the future. If he's not going to accept that he fucked up by crossing a line with OP and the cat then he should find a roommate with a dog instead. also the guy with the books basically served those two girls the exact same "joke" they did. they're clearly sexist against male authors (white male authors even) and can't handle it being reciprocated back in their direction. OP unintentionally exposed them as hypocrites.
