R&B Mondays at the Lombard Roller Rink

TribLocal reporter Elizabeth Vassolo visits the Lombard Roller Rink in
Lombard, Ill., which hosts R&B Mondays for its skaters from 8 p.m. to
midnight. At the rink, you can join in with some fantastic skaters who move
and groove to old school R&B from the '70s and 80s.

Scott's Valley roller rink was the place to be on Thursday and Friday nights. We'd be in a long line doing the same moves, crossovers, spins, doing about 15mph. They'd clear the floor and if you thought you could do it and keep up you'd jump in the floor and Rex. Great workout!

I might have to check this out. I grew up going to the Rainbo Friday nights from 8-12 and Saturday from 4-7. The Fabulous One were of da chain and they played plenty of house music back in the 80's. They don't play house at all, do they?

Hell yea! I started skating in the early 80's here in So. Cali and all the blacks in LA county skated like this. I'm 61 and my ankles are too bad now but I love to watch the videos. It puts a smile on my face.

I forgot to tell you BOB, black people have been skating since the 20s so your 1961 is not back far enough. Where I skated in Pomona, Ca the whites came on Wednesday night with thier little rex stuff and the blacks came on Saturday night with the funk skate and trust me, they did not skate like us. I looked up some Rex skating videos and they did the same thing that I saw in Pomona, all they do is backward skate. Now do they backward skate good, yes I'll give them that but that's all they do.
