“Why do we use the term scapegoat??” I’m not sure if this is actually correct, but herders used to keep a goat or two with their flock. If a predator like a wolf attacked, the goats would be more likely to be eaten then the herder’s other animals since they were slower most of the time, hence the term “scapegoat”. Fainting goats were pretty popular for this purpose, as they’d freeze up and fall over, allowing the other animals time to escape while the predator went for the easier prey. As I said, I don’t know if this is correct, but to me it makes sense to me.
