Every time I see a video about the Rodecaster Pro II, I feel so proud of my first generation unit. To me, the number one reason to buy the Rodecaster was its simplicity. With the second generation, I feel we need a Masters Degree to operate it. Tom, thanks for your fantastic videos.

now I got it. Thank you so much Tom. I got my Rodecaster 2 today and used as Output on my PC "USB 1". And then I wondered why everyone was hearing an echo in the Conference. Pure magic given what I used to have to do with an analog desk.

Tom: Firstly: Kudos and thank you! Huge fan of your videos! I have a question that Rode hasn't gotten back to me on so I thought I'd ask you. I'm a film/tv composer and am trying to use the Rodecaster Pro 2 with my DAW (Digital Performer) and can't wrap my head around how to playback a stereo mix of a multitrack composition in DP via usb while recording into DP separate audio from the mic channels 1-4. The musicians need to hear themselves in the headphones along with the stereo mix of the music they are being sent from DP while I need to get clean audio from the mic channels into the tracks I have armed going into DP. I'm I crazy to think this is possible?
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
Hey Peter! I don't think you're crazy (or at least not because of this 😁). In the output settings have you enabled multitrack via USB? I haven't used Digital Performer myself, but this is how I've been able to separate channels with Audition and Logic. As long as your firmware is up to date, then you should be able to create custom mixes for each performer's headphones.
@beyond28092 жыл бұрын
Excellent explanation. I think where Rode has goofed is that the concepts/interface are not intuitive for the average Joe (or Scott, in my case). I love your content and learn a lot from you and others, but I shouldn't have to watch 8 videos just to figure out how to configure my RCP2. Also, naming some of the USB channels as "CHAT" have confused things, IMO. Keep up the good work! Hopefully some of this feedback has gotten back up to Rode!
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I think there's a balance. The RCP with all of the advanced settings turned off is pretty simple, but it is a hugely advanced thing and so a learning curve is a bit inevitable. I definitely agree with the USB naming. I really don't know why they still have these names rather than just "USB 1, 2, and 3" or something like that since you can configure them in a way where there's really no difference.
@MarkNievespr2 жыл бұрын
Hi. I purchased the first Rodecaster around a year ago. Should I get the new one or wait? Love your videos and they provide amazing help.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
It really depends (unsatisfying answer, I know). The new RCP is better, but if the original is suiting your needs, then there's really no need to upgrade. I think the biggest reasons to upgrade are: -More clean gain (no more boosters needed) -Better headphone amps -More options for USB mixing/routing There are tons of other features too, but those ones are really what I think have the potential to make the most immediate impact on a workflow.

@@tombuck - Thanks for the quick reply and additional info about that. I originally heard about the delay on Curtis Judd's channel. I'm honestly not sure, since I also don't have the Go II (just the original). Right now the RCP2 doesn't take USB inputs, so they'd have to use either an XLR or 1/4" adapter. You shouldn't, especially if you're using the RCP's noise gate, but of course it's really just up to you. Personally, I've stopped using Audition as much after getting the RCP2.

Thank you so much Tom for the interesting videos about the RODE PCPII as I would like to inform you that the second menu of the sound pads which include the (Megaphone, Ducking, etc...) doesn't produce any sound when i am pressing on them while the first page of which includes Music Bed, Airhorn, etc...) is working perfectly so whats the reason behind? also I would like to request you if you can kindly make a tutorial about the best settings for the SHURE SM7B including the best processing settings for it as i would like to have the same sound output of the DBX 286s, Thank you so much and i wish you all the best.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Certain effects, like those on the second page, will only be noticeable when there's an audio signal running through the RCP2. For example, if ducking is on, you won't notice it unless the other channels have audio going while channel 1 starts talking.

Just picked up an RCP2 and discovered your channel, fantastic stuff! I'm trying to remove the channel 1 mic input from the "monitor mix" but leave it in the usb 1 "main mix" (to avoid feedback when monitoring with speakers). I'm not sure if this is possible since the mix-minus options don't include the monitor outputs 🤔 In any case, thanks for such terrific videos! I'm learning a ton from your channel.
@chrisfjonesutube2 жыл бұрын
I think I figured out a solution from another of your videos. I'm using the channel 1 headphone output to go to the monitors rather than using L\R monitor outs. Then using the 'listen' buttons on every channel _except_ for channel 1. Seems to work, cheers!

Hey Tom! Do you think the RØDECaster Pro II could be used for live event productions? I have a unique scenario that I would need to be able to have the audio go to a live stream and in person attendees? Usually in person attendees is less than 100, but hopefully can get that to more. I'd like something that can do both, but not just a regular mixer... What would you recommend?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely it can! Especially because the RCP2 has more control over your outputs, which is great for monitors and PA systems. 👍

There are so many variable that honestly I think the best thing to do is try it all! Keep changing settings until it works with your specific setup (I know that's not very precise, but it usually gets the job done).

Great video as always, Tom, and as a new RCP2 owner this, I'll be watching a lot of yours! I had a lot of hair-pulling yesterday as I tried to set everything up, and get things working with Hindenburg Pro - it did not like multi-track, haha! I do have a question, not sure if you can help: I'm trying to use the RCP2 for Twitter Spaces, but via Bluetooth through my Google Pixel 3a. I could connect, but was told I was sending feedback, and I couldn't work it out. Is this where mix minus comes in? Do I still talk through my 1st slider, that I have set up for my SM7B, or do I need the Bluetooth input switched on too for vocals? So confused! :) Thanks as always for great tips and advice, it's appreciated.

It's tough to say, but that sounds like some sort of output setting in need of adjustment (in addition to double checking that a mute/solo button isn't accidentally turned on). If you're not able to figure it out, definitely reach out to Rode support, who can guide you through troubleshooting steps. Good luck!

Hey Tony! It depends in your needs and budget. If you’ve got the money for it, there’s really nothing else quite like the RCP. It’s truly an amazing tool. But if you only need a single channel XLR interface it’s probably overkill.

hi! Tom question I interview a person and when I heard the recording his voice sound like double. What could be the problem. thanks
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
That's usually a mix minus issue. The RCP2 can seem a little confusing, but if you just double check that the other person's channel has mix minus turned on you should be ok. If that doesn't work, you can use custom routing to select only the specific channels you want that person to hear.

I know you play instruments, but do you sing? No one seems to be doing any videos with the RCPII for some of the best settings when using it for singing and music in general.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think I’m legally allowed to sing 😉 But I do think that when it comes to vocals on the RCP 2, most of it comes down to choose the right mic and environment. The mixer itself can handle anything you throw at it, and being able to add a little reverb if needed only sweetens the deal.

What I would like to do is occasionally play audio from KZbin or an MP3 that's not on a pad. Is there any way to have a fader assigned so that I can fade this specific audio up at will? I've not seen any way to do this except switch on and off the mix-minus function.
