The apartments where my mom lives started eviction papers on her for about $1.50. It was not an automated system. An actual human had to calculate it, type up the warning(s), mail them off, then begin the eviction process. Luckily, I checked her mailbox about two weeks after her payment and saw a "you must pay this by X date or eviction papers will be filed". X date was that same day. Oh, did I mention that my mom is disabled? Yeah, this company was about to evict an old disabled lady over about $1.50 despite her having been living at the same apartment for almost a decade.

People would call the police on a homeless person, simply because they're not contributing members of society. They've been given the idea that homeless people just don't want to get better, and are all crazed meth addicts who will beg aanything to get a good smoke. The reality of the situation is that they can't get better. They don't have a job, and they can't get one for how dirty they look, and because they don't have a job, they can't afford a house. I'm not going to say any reasons why or how people become poor, for I don't want to get into controversy. The point is, homeless people have to find whatever they can to survive. It's just been painted as an image that they're all nasty crackheads that just want good drugs, just so they can move on to another dangerous chemical to inject into their bloodstream. When they try to find places to sleep, it may be considered loitering or a public property. So people who can't seem to get what they want will call the police on these people who can't get something that they need. This is what I know for my own background knowledge and partial experience. If anyone else wants to help me on this please feel free to leave a comment. I just wanted to answer this question that was all.

the rent story reminds me of one time where the rent was adjust by a insignificant amount (less than the equivalent of 2 us cents) and because it was such an insignificant amount i only adjusted the automatic payments and forgot the "debt". even after the second warning letter i still forgot, meaning i got a final warning threatening to send repo men. I was so tempted to let them come considering that laws had recently been passed to avoid fraud in that business making it illegal to take any significantly over the amount owed meaning more than 150% of the debt. in the end i payed but the thought of a team of repo-men trying to find something cheap enough to take still amuses me.
