Using X in a word to make it “gender neutral” means that it’s the letter/phoneme that determines the gender of the word (e.g xe or latinx) “Germxn” makes no sense. It does not become a female or neutral gendered word when you change the “a” to anything else, (germon, germin, germshn) To change “man” into a gender neutral word, you simply change it to “person” However, “person” is clearly a gendered word. “Son” refers to a male child. A gender neutral way to say it would actually be “perchild” So to sum it all up, the correct term would be “Gerperchild”. For example, “I think we should go to Gerperchildy next holiday, maybe even bring back some *Gerperchild* souvenirs” If you’re going to enforce gender neutral language, at least get it right.

German has nothing to do with men, it comes from the Latin word Germanus, meaning genuine, or of the same parents, used to designate related peoples of central and northern Europe. it might have been a word given by Celts to their neighbours, as it's similar to the Old Irish word gair, which means neighbour.

As an example "police man" seems to exclude the female police force, so a suggestion would be to use "police officer". For the same reason Justin Trudeau "corrected" someone who used "mankind" that she should use "humankind". This basically is the source of the misplaced "german"-complaint. I don't mind the "police officer", but some of the proposed - nay, demanded - changes mangle the language. Also they have no problem to ascribe everything positive as female (starting with "feminism") and everything negative as male ("patriarchy", "male toxicity", "manspreading", ....). If the words in a language are actually that important than "police man" is a minor offense and "patriarchy" is a felony!
