My 17yo son is a furry. I took him to his first convention (Aquatifur) when he was 11. It was also the first time he went out in public presenting as a male (he's trans). Everyone kept telling me what a great mom I am and I didn't get it. I wasn't doing anything above and beyond or special. Then I heard some stories of his friends' parents reacting to their child coming out as trans, or as a furry (or both) and I finally understood. It's exceptionally heartbreaking and unfortunate how terrible some parents are to their trans and/or furry kids 😭😭😭

@@alyshafoundyou Absolutely! Most furries (or at least my son and others I know) don't equate themselves to actual animals. It's just a fun way to dress up and can be liberating to play pretend and have fun, kinda like people who cos-play. Cos-players don't actually think they're superheroes or whatever - they're just having fun! I can totally understand not wanting to do either (I personally don't either), but I can't imagine caring if it makes others happy. When you say you're "anti-furry," that's how it comes across - that you're against other people being furries. Is that what you meant, or do you just mean that you don't get it?

I wish bad parents weren't so common out there. If they're not ready for their kid to turn out trans or gay or a furry, or for that matter disabled or not subscribing to the parents' religion or politics, then they're not ready to be parents at all. Kids are who they are and you don't get to choose, so they need to be ready to love their kid *for* who their kid is, and not reject them or only 'love' them *despite* who they are!

I have shut down mean people by data dumping... when I happened to have a little knowledge about the topic. mostly just correcting a factually wrong premis... or asking for details and it turned out that whatever they were going on about they only had very surface knowledge about.. but that actually wasn't my intention. For those who asked, here's a translation of all the swedish in that part of the video: It all starts when Click doesn't know the english term for "upphöjt till fyra", that of course being to the power of four in swedish. (upphöjt till directly translates to raised/increased to) Then he goes on his rant; "Åh, vi kan lära oss matte på svenska på kanalen" (oh, we can learn maths in swedish on the channel) "Hur många skulle vilja ha mattelektioner på svenska på kanalen?" (how many of you would like to have maths lessons on the channel?) I get the impression that "in-" indicates a negative, where "inte" is the "not" in "won't happen" and "ingen" is "nobody". Hello, Click, I hope you see this. Vampire folklore has been my hyperfixation since 5th grade - so about 38 years. And in answer to your reflection question - Vampires have reflections! Yes, that's right, vampires DO have reflections. The idea that they don't comes solely from Bram Stoker who actually took more of Dracula's traits from FAIRY folklore rather than European vampire folklore. Which makes sense since he was an Irish Catholic. There's NOTHING about vampires not having reflections any time before Stoker's novel. Now I will also that according to folklore vampires can be killed with silver. That's right, silver is NOT "just for werewolves" like those raised on Hollywood-lore would have you believe. (Side note, according to folklore werewolves are MORTAL and can die by multiple means including old age, drowning, and disease - so please vaccinate your werewolves!) And since mirrors used to be backed by silver writers could say that vampires don't reflect in antique mirrors but DO reflect in MODERN mirrors. Think of the horror movie scenes - the vampire replaced all the glass in their antique mirrors with modern ones so they can trick people into thinking they're human too. But then it's revealed they used the antique mirrors to create a mirror maze in their dungeon. So the vampire can stalk their prey through the maze without them being seen in the reflections.... Brief note about werewolves, they're not only mortal according to folklore, but they also come back as vampires after they die. (So do witches, redheads, murderers, murder victims, the 7th son of a 7th son, people who had too many people cry for them at their funeral....) So the proper sequel to An American Werewolf In London would be An American Vampire In London.

I'm glad you talked about trigger warnings. Pregnancy and parturition (birth) are ENORMOUS triggers for me. I learned long ago before trigger warnings, people can't cater to me. People will celebrate their Pregnancy, post maternity photos, post newborns. Etc. All of these things make me feel physically ill BEYOND the panic, hyperventilating, light headedness, etc of an anxiety attack. My phobia isn't super common and is usually a happy thing. So I've learned I have to give myself space and not get upset at others for their happiness

I have a convention near me, where the main floor is more or less "trigger free". And the smaller hall next to it isn't. Every prop that is commonly known to cause negative reaction (Weapons, needles, realistic insects and spiders, etc) can be left in a kind of checkroom, if you want to go to the main floor. And Tatoo stations are also in the smaller hall. Just like many conventions have a 18+ Area one could also devide it further. Also especially with anime cosplayers, it is nice when you dont get hit with 4m long prop swords in the artist alley, so a checkroom to leave big props, before going into more couded areas would always be nice

I recently read the book, the invisible Man, and it actually goes into a fair amount of detail about this during the man’s testing to see if he could turn people invisible he tested it on animals, and one of his experiments escaped. It was a cat. He only managed to turn the skin and bone invisible so it freaked people out because it was a walking, floating pile of guts and innards 😅
