This story is pretty timely. And sadly, this quote is cycled forward and backwards regularly. I hope that one day, We can beat our swords into plows and for once, they will remain plows, never more to be swords again

That first one kinda hurt. A father talking to his son, knowing that when the war is over , so too is the father’s life. Right in the feels.

Part of me wonders if it is a biological aspect, or if it is a depressing reflection on how PTSD keeps many soldiers in the wars they fought even decades after it ended.

@@truekurayami As an alien life form, written from the mind of another author, I can’t say for certain. Kind of seems like those conscripted to war in their species are not able to return to civilian life, maybe due to augments or because of trauma. Either way, the father is saying goodbye. Still, you are absolutely correct about PTSD from what I’ve experienced with veterans. Many veterans feel like those left behind are not just heroes, but lucky. Their war is over, while the veterans fight on in their minds.

@@nicholashernandez4611 And it's little details like that having such huge implications I both love and hate about the shorter stories, as some that are a little more fleshed out have basically stated the warrior form/caste live only if their is a conflict either because they die or put into a form of stasis when they aren't needed. These details being left unexplored annoy me when it turns out the answer is in another story you might never read but intrigue me when the author has intentionally left the meaning to be decided by the readers or viewers/listeners in our case here.
