I've applied to 160 jobs in the past 4 weeks. I have gotten ONE call. From a place on the other side of the country to tell me that it wasn't actually remote like they said it was. I DESPISE the job I have now, since I'm not making enough to survive, and it's physically and mentally destroying me. Shit like this is why every day is a new rock bottom

And now, you'd have to be extremely lucky or experienced to apply to ONLY 40 jobs, let alone all of the extra garbage that job recruiters do, such as "urgently hiring" but never getting any callback, having to individually put information from a resume to the job site, no salary available, site errors that forces you to go through the shitty process all over again, being ghosted, and all that disgusting crap. But hey, they can always hire offshore workers instead, for stacks of profits from pennies of labor.

And that's ladies and gentlemen is why you absolutely need to fight for workers rights.
@Ryanthusar

This is why people you need to stop voting in politicians who take money from ANY company. No country should be run by business. You politicians should be voted into their positions without such 'sponsorship' and are TRULY there for the people. That is the issue with the USofA when it comes to everything. The corporations dictate what laws are passed through each level of government. Even if you fight for worker's rights, without those laws to back it up, then no change is ever going to take place. One example of that sort of thing right now is the strike action that is taking place with the film/tv industry. Problem there is that sure, they get heard, however the government themselves are NOT doing anything by making sure the production companies do not use AI to replace jobs. They are not stepping in and making certain the writers and such are getting the proper wages. The problem is, as seen with Netflix within the last 24 hours, they are now looking in that direction to use AI. Unfortunately with that part of the industry it isnt going to work out well with the little people. AI unfortunately is here to stay, and those striking need to start working with AI and not against it. At the same time the companies need to realize that they need the human aspect as well, and not something just pushed out by the AI. Now, while I dont work within the industry, I have messed around with ChatGPT 3.5, cant afford to invest in paying $20/month to access 4.0. I've tossed simple lines of what I've required for a story for the AI to create, and some of the work its created could be turned into a novel given enough material from the AI, so warning when you start buying books from now on, dont expect it to be from the actual author's own mind.

They spend so much time automating the system but not actually improving the efficiency of it or its outcomes. Big data, record resumes, performance evaluations, and company performance data; have applicants send in resumes and standardized interview questions, have AI analyze the top candidates, automatically create individualized rejection letters and interview requests. Bonus points: Make it a public system and collect employment data and use that information to fund education programs to alleviate the unemployment created by creative destruction, a fundamental part of capitalism. Also, less filling out the same forms over, and over, and over again.

I'm currently job hunting, and my parents tell me to "take whatever you can get." While I agree with them that I should take whatever job I can get, I also think I shouldn't put my fragile mental health at risk for $10/hr part time jobs... PS, Been hunting for 5 months. Applied to I have no idea how many jobs. Had ONE interview with a job I applied to four times. No job yet. Everyone is so desperate for workers but they're clearly not hiring anybody. I just want to get a job, take over the car insurance payments for my car, get out on my own, and be an adult. But it's hard in a broken job market. Edit: Thanks for the support and encouragement, everyone. I appreciate it. I kinda gave up for a while because I started getting depressed. I started going into jobs that I applied to, and I got some funny looks from some workers when I asked to speak to the manager about my applications. One of y'all's comments makes a lot of sense now. I'm applying for jobs again, and now I will go into each job I apply to (that I'm able to go into) and ask about my application. Maybe that'll increase my chance for a job.

I wonder if it's logistically possible to make a hiring Union or something. Like, people searching for similar positions at similar or the same companies get matched up with people of a similar location and skill level, then they all agree to interview for the same jobs, but refuse the lowest wages. I'm sure something akin to this idea already exists.

@@hayuseen6683I still don't think this is something where collective action would work. The reason a strike works is because 1) everyone in the company participates, and 2) it directly hurts the company. Stuff like that wouldn't work for hiring, because it'll require all unemployed people (including the ones that don't know about your initiative and the ones that are super desperate) to take action, and even then, if they don't fill a position, they'll still have their existing workforce in the office, so the immediacy is a lot less there. This is something that should be solved legislatively. Collective action has its place but this ain't it.

I know a guy who had much the same experience as the guy at 29:16 The condensed version of the several minute long story he loves telling at any opportunity: he was told that he knows nothing about the tool he developed _to his face_ and his response was to say "alright, bet. If I can prove I know more about this than anyone in your company, you'll hire me at double the pay you were offering. If not, I'll stop wasting your time and give you $10,000". Without waiting for the interviewer to accept the bet, he went on to say "so, pop quiz, I've got three questions for you: The first is, what's the name of the guy who invented this software? Phone anyone in the company and ask, I'll wait" Recruiter didn't know off the top of his head, gave one of the people who worked with it on a daily basis a call, and regurgitated the answer without thinking about it. "Second question: what is my name? I'll give you a hint: you just heard it over the phone" He didn't get to ask the third question, he was told to get out.

I kept a collection of my rejection emails as well as follow up information of what happened after getting an interview. When I finally decided to start my own business last year, I had my mother read through all 300+ letters I’d received in the previous 4 years and laughed at her outrage when an employer decided not to hire me after claiming I was a good interviewer and they loved how it was to talk to me. Zero-hour contracts are a UK thing unfortunately. Its basically the job holding shifts over your head, requiring you to have full availability, which also means that you cant risk taking another job in case they call you in. But they don't actually /have/ to give you any shifts. And if they /do/ call you in? If you don't jump immediately and come in, guess what? Suddenly there's no shifts available. Ugh. I have now applied for a new better job where I won't be burned with hot water actually be trained and get a better pay and better treatment. I broke one day at the old job because it was my third day and I was left completely alone to get all of the rest of the dishes done pick up the snack stuff and clean the kitchen the next day after that I was treated like a child for being overwhelmed. I am glad I have a much better job that I will hopefully start soon. Sorry it that was confusing. Tldr: quit an awful overwhelming crappy job to work at a place I have been trying to work at since last summer.

Ughh, I can relate to this video, cuz I'm currently IN recruiting hell... I don't have a job (had to quit the last one to preserve my mental health), applied to 20+ jobs, and only 2 contacted me... with one never doing so again and one rejecting me without even telling me (only found out because I checked the application status on Indeed). What's even better is the fact that they reject people due to a lack of experience without factoring in that your can't HAVE experience if people won't give you the chance to actually gain any.

I am currently an university student working for minimum wage and the amount of bs regarding applications is insane. I got a job at ikea recently and another place I had signed up for, which had ignored me for a month straight, wants me to quit my already existing job so I can work purely for them. The pay at the other place would be considerably better than at ikea but at least I get treated like an actual human being there.

I wish every job interview went like the one for my current job - Sent an resume. Someone actually read it. From that they knew I could do the job. They sat me down, explained the job description in more detail, gave a timeline for training (On site training is increasingly rare unfortunately), said what money I would be making at each point in that timeline. Asked if I was fine with the conditions or if I had any other questions, when that was done I was told what I needed to do before I could start (Physical and Psychological examination (important in my job), which they paid back with first paycheck). It's a government firm so there isn't negotiation about salary, it's set, and transparent. I also live in Europe so it's little better, but none of the interviews I've been at before were this straight to the point.

I applied to at least 50 jobs in the last 2 weeks and so far I did not get ONE email or message calling me to an interview or something. I'm really tired of this bullshit. I need a job to actually survive but it's extremely hard to find one. You apply to a job and one of these two things happen: you get rejected and they don't even take the time let you know that OR they call you for an interview just to reject you and don't tell why. That's my experience in the last few years. Apply for a job, get rejected, repeat the same thing over and over. Companies will post that they need more employees but won't hire you. That's great.

I luckily got a job recently that is pretty decent. However, when I went to interview it was so apparent that the HR manager had not read my resume that I wanted to point blank ask her about it. She was also pretty ignorant of some basic stuff in my field, so that was fun...

To be fair, HR managers don't need to know the details of the field. I work in information security, and I don't expect our HR manager to be able to perform a pentest or an incident analysis. Her job is to know enough about the work so she's able to identify people who are able to do the job. But the resume thing is infuriating. If you're asking people to come in for an interview, at least read their resume.

For the story where the user quit a 75k job that stressed him out. My hot take is that not having money might stress you out evenly. When your buying power lowers and your savings aren't piling up, or maybe going down, its not going to feel great. Absolutely okay for you to quit a job you hate, but for people in that similar situation, consider the balance.

7:50 - the reason they ask questions like this is because they want to get a sense of a candidate's personality and how easily they'll be able to get along with their teammates. It's not about being buddies or friends in the workplace, it's about being able to work together and not be at each other's throats constantly. We don't have to be friends, but we should at least be able to get along if we're gonna be working together.

@Ryanthusar
@Ryanthusar Жыл бұрын
14:50 - Not necessarily the case, that could represent a MUCH bigger issue if you find the email address you used for that company is receiving spam. They could have had a data breach and because you had been in contact with them about a previous position, which they didnt tell you you didnt get, however they kept your email address on file, along with your resume. So, because of that data breach, your email address, ended up being taken and added to spam lists. Worse things again, if you find those spam emails are more personalized, such as your name being within them. So, you then have two options. One, you can contact them DIRECTLY and put the question DIRECTLY to them on asking if they had a data breach, if they are then evasive in answer, you can bet they have. Your second option is to check the media and see if they have reported one. If they havent, report it yourself, because that email address didnt get out there without there being a breach, or your email address got shared by the company. And if it got shared, well you didnt give permission. And if you do report such a breach, you can bet they will be quickly in contact with you regarding it.

I once did an interview for an internship at a company that I really wanted to work for, a fairly known manufacturer of high-end guitar pedals. Before my application, they weren't even approved to have interns, which is actually pretty easy and free for them. I went to the interview, did pretty well, they got approved to have interns... then a couple of weeks later, I got an email, saying they had to turn me down, because they didn't have the resources to take on an intern at the time... The very same day, a few hours later, they made a post on Facebook saying "welcome to our first ever intern", along with a photo of someone else. I have black-listed all products manufactured by that company since that day out of pure spite.

I've had it from a local employability service I had to attend, where they would phone me, excitedly tell me a suitable job was interviewing, employer had seen my c.v (resume) and to go down there. Only problem is that once I did, they would say my C.V. wasn't suitable/qualified enough! Also there was a couple of "job interview" sessions at the local job centre where a company were later forced to admit they were c.v gathering exercises and no jobs were really available!

If the job offer says it's 18$ an hour and in the interview they say 15$ you can report them. Don't actually know how much LinkedIn does about these, but I've reported some job offers where the employer told me the offer had been filled (either they were too lazy to take them down or that was their excuse to get rid of me) and those job offers were taken down.

recent expose's have noted that a huge number of employers are only taking applications to: 1) bank them for future use (which never happens, they just take recent apps when they have a need, but inactive recruiters want to pretend they have a use to the company when it's not hiring actively) 2) just get your personal info, either for internal use, or to sell it (check fine print on apps, often a clause that says they can sell your info) 3) to mollify their overworked staff, without ANY intention of ACTUALLY hiring ANYONE "honest, I'm looking for a replacement! just keep it up and be patient!"

I worked at a sports center as my first “real” job. I ref soccer, get amazing pay, minimum $25 a game for 10 year olds and it’s $80-95 for 16+. The sorts scenter is where these teams play in the winter. It was a concession stand job. Since the sports scenter is owned by the city it’s a “government” job meaning they can pay me less. But this is what pissed me off. 90% of the time, we are doing custodial work. Not like cleaning the concession stand, but the entire sports center. It has 3 hockey rinks, and one full size turf soccer field. I had to work with toxic cleaning chemicals every day without breathing protection or gloves. Not like windex, but ones that have warning labels that say it will burn skin if it comes in contact. I also had the clean the bathrooms, all 5 of them. I brought this up and they said they didn’t have the budget. I was planning on just toughening it out but one of my mangers decided he wanted me and only me, to clean every bathroom. It took me 4 hours. Then after that, he told me I didn’t do it and had to do it again. I had a two week notice pre made and handed it in the day. I was making $11 an hour.
