She's always made it known that if a man she's dating ever hits her, it's immediately over. I had an unconventional "wedding" my husband and I decided we were ready, and we went to the courthouse, but we needed whiteness, but didn't want family there. So we went to a coffee shop and offered to buy a random couple's drinks if they would come to the courthouse with us. They agreed and it was my husband, my daughter, and two kind souls. When my mom found out she had a hissy fit, and said enough toxic stuff that we cut her out of our lives and moved far away. She was the kind of mom who beat me, said abusive things, and forced me to eat dog food. It took my husband explaining to me that I was worth being treated with kindness to get the strength to cut off anyone who treated me poorly. Wholesome Wedding Story - my maternal cousin told me about this from her dad's side. The bridal party "kidnapped" the groom from the reception for an hour, it's a typical thing in their family, they usually go to the nearest bar. Only the party was two pregnant women and the groom's 14yo sister, so they got him a happy meal at McDonald's and they played at the park. He had the toy in his vest pocket for the rest of the night.☺️

Sir/ma'am/secret third thing, you just gave me an idea. You see, I have this list, where I jot down random ideas for the event that I come into so much money that I don't know what to do with it. And now, I have a new idea for that list: Having a ball. Basically, I'm gonna pick like 300 people at random, and send them invites, as well as a QR code to access a website where they can create their own outfit. I'm gonna comb through every historical document on ballroom clothing, and have an AI help with personalizing the outfits, so people can tell it stuff like "Sleeves of A-B-9 on K-I-1" and the AI edits the images. When they're done, they submit the image, and it gets assigned to one of 150 designers I hired, who turns it into a proper design and sends it back for approval and the finishing touches. Also, the designers will be aspiring ones, not because those are cheaper, but so they can add something more to their portfolio. Anyway, I'll then buy and renovate a castle, or build one myself, and cover the people's travel costs. They arrive, get their clothes, get dressed, and have an amazing night. And at the end, they get to keep the clothes, completely free of charge. I'll also give a little "I hope I don't have to tell you that stealing things is illegal. But, since this is a historical castle, and they didn't have security cameras back then, we'll just rely on the trust system tonight" speech, as a way of letting people know that it's fine if they take small things. It's going to be awesome, and I'll do this every year, until my money runs out. Once I have that money, that is.

We're talking about the whole family here, though + a wedding. There are ways to create a safe environment for an allergic person, but still keep the food. Just put the table with it in a small separate room, and keep the door there closed and labeled. The person with allergy would simply avoid this little room, having full access to everything else. Also, your situation. Could you just... Go eat seafood without your stepmother? Like, you still can go and have fun together on your birthday, but then separate and go to the restaurant you want without her? It's not even so bizzare, and it's only one day a year - your birthday.

Yeah its a combination of the "you have to get married in order to actually be seen as an adult", the "you have to get married by a certain age so just grab the first kinda good option available" and the rampant capitalism wedding industry trying to convince people to spend more and more. So its a mix of a coming of age ceremony (which is forced at a weirdly early time in peoples lives), a "last day of freedom" prison acknowledgement (since you just took the first person around you don't actually really care for them, better make that day a blow up one) and corporate greed just doing it's thing to fleece people as much as they can. My step-dad also gave me a little gold ring to make me feel like I was a part of it and to promise to be a good dad to me too as a commitment. I love him. It was late at night by the time they got back and by then, everyone had forgotten about my birthday. That woman couldn't stand not being the center of attention. That was my ought too, you've already booked the flight & hotel, so my assumption is it must be someone you care about. But then if the person who has cancer says that, because they'll have just started chemo, they don't know if they'll be up to visitors, then you can surely get a refund (who books a flight for a wedding, knowing that things can come up or go awry, and don't get refundable tickets or some kind of insurance)?! They are referred to using a euphemism in the area I grew up. “Tupperware parties” in reference to the original method that Tupperware food containers were sold, and to the plastic/synthetic nature of the toys. It’s actually an effective strategy, as the social nature and typically moderate alcohol consumption leads to more bold and rowdy behavior, especially among the more outgoing personalities, and it all results in a peer pressure effect to buy at least one item.

I got about halfway through one before I realised. I know I need to be more responsible with my allergy, but you'd also think that handing out something containing a common allergen, you might mention that it contains a common allergen? Weddings tend to be a 50/50 on whether it’s going to be a lovely thing or a complete disaster. One of my step siblings got married at what is essentially my family’s family home which my stepmom spent months preparing and renovating for the wedding. They’re from Scandinavia and some are heavy drinkers so all hard alcohol was banned from the wedding. There was also a shuttle bus to take people back to the hotel at a certain time because the house is in a residential area and you need to comply with rest times and noise limits. Day of the wedding everything is gorgeous until some guests get super drunk, pee on the house walls, slosh beer and wine everywhere and are really loud and obnoxious. My dad and my brother were livid and my step sibling was super embarrassed and apologized. I get that weddings are a celebration but that doesn’t mean you can just act obnoxious and rude towards other people and their property. Main thing I’ve learned from the weddings I’ve attended is that if you invite people that can’t handle alcohol, make sure to cut them off early and send them home or have someone watch them.

Wearing a wedding dress to someone else's wedding is always a way to upstage the bride. The only exception is when the bride has explicitly stated she wants you to. When my sister asked me if I wanted us to wear the dresses we bought together, I asked her if it was okay that she wouldn't be wearing something more extravagant than me. After all, they were basically the same dresses, in different colours. But she insisted we would be "twinsies" at the wedding reception. Her reasoning: I never got to wear a wedding dress, even at my own wedding, and had been kept from my family during my marriage. By the time my sister's wedding planning started, I finally got out and moved back in with my parents for safety. After all the shit I'd gone through, my sister wanted me to feel special, and loved, at her own special day. Of course I still tried to keep the spotlight on her and her husband, but she made sure people knew I was there, and that she was so happy to have me in her life. Wearing that dress was my way of honouring my sister, and my way of showing her I love her too.

I will never understand how some people can get so jealous over dead people. My partner let me name our daughter after my deceased girlfriend. True, we are polyamorous. But even if we were monogamous. It's not like I'm cheating on my partner with her. SHE'S DEAD! She was a big part of my life. When you lose someone who was such a big part of your life, you can't just forget that that person even existed. You can't just stop loving someone because they passed away. If you can't share your partners heart with someone that has passed away (regardless if it's a family member or a relationship) then you don't deserve to hold their heart to begin with.

When I started planning my wedding, I told myself (and my mom to hold me accountable) that I would not be a bridezilla, no wedding is perfect, if something goes wrong I'll take it in stride and the important part is that me and my husband were celebrating our marriage with a fun little party. Weddings should not be the end-all be-all of your whole life. Also, we paid for the food and a wine/beer bar and didn't expect anything from others except to show up, be presentable and have a good time. Some of them didn't even bring gifts and we still treated everyone the same. I don't remember the gifts, the food, or the flowers, I just remember having so much fun with my family and friends and most of all my husband. 17:40 The Wedding from Heck: I think that some of the guests got together and gave the bride & groom a fantastic gift-a wedding so much of a train wreck that they could sell the film rights for a couple hundred bucks to a studio. It’s in the studio’s best interests to cut a deal, because they can intercut photos from the real wedding with identical staged scenes from the film, and close the film with a final card that says, “best wishes from all of us to Blorp and Blorpette” over a photo of the two of them together. It might not open well, but if they *don’t* promote it as “inspired by a true event” but spring it as a final-reel twist, word-of-mouth will drive ticket sales way, way up.

I got invited to join one of "those" MLMs right after I had a hip replacement. (Because, I wouldn't be able to do the deed for several months and endorphins would "speed up the healing process.") Honestly, I thought it was the pain meds, but I have the message chain to prove it was real.

10:24 I could understand the bride asking the groom to not wear any other rings on their wedding day, necklace is kinda weird though.

I was listening to this while doing chores, and my god, that "Not pretty enough to be a bridesmaid" story hurt my heart too! Like girl, it sounds like you may really be her only friend! I'm no paragon of friendship, but imo, a real friend wouldn't say something like that, seriously. Not pretty enough? Friends are friends, not accessories!

Another thing I thought to say, kinda basing this of Heathers (the musical) tbh as my later school years were pretty ordinary. But sounds like those "childhood friends" peaked in high school and never matured past it.

The plantation wedding is so wild to me. I really, really hope this is related to some odd kink. But still.... Imagine any other country pulling this off with their dark past.... Like for example a holocaust themed wedding... It would ve a scandal on a global scale...

I really do think the couple was trying to say that if they'd been alive back then, their love would be stronger than societal demands. (Still extremely not ok, but relatively less extreme than the alternative)
