Fantastic idea/story I saw on a Reddit video: This woman and her husband were getting married, and after begrudgingly getting a white wedding dress (she hated dresses but decided to wear one for her wedding, and the entire thing was mainly to get it over with because she hated the idea of a wedding) she learned that her MIL and three SIL's had gone back and ordered the same dress as her, and she knew they were planning to wear it to her wedding. So instead of confronting them, she went back to the store, returned the dress, and got a different beautiful purple dress with black trim. After doing that, she sent out the invite (excluding the in-laws, they had special invitations asking them not to wear white) inviting anyone who had a wedding dress that were sad about only getting to wear it once to wear it at THEIR wedding. So when the MIL and SIL's showed up at the wedding in their white gowns and perfect makeup, instead of standing out and stealing the show, they got absorbed into the crowd of people wearing their old wedding dresses while the bride and her husband looked amazing and were in the spotlight the entire night. Funniest part is that they were mad at the bride in the first place for being an atheist, and the wedding included the bride showing up in the side car of a Harley Davidson, walking down the aisle to the Imperial March, jumping over a broomstick with her husband, and having all sorts of Pagan traditions. It was very much NOT a church wedding.

You forgot the bit where op befriended the priest who the MIL sent to schedule their "church" wedding and do premarital religious counseling. So he agreed to do a fake out of him being the officiant and was their DJ.

my best friend got married in october, so naturally the wedding was halloween-themed. but she's also a fan of actually having fun, so it was ACTUALLY a halloween party. Everyone came dressed in costumes (including the whole wedding party), there was fun-size candy on all the tables, and we played a huge game of Werewolf after dinner. I mean *actual* costumes, too, not like "I wore a cape over my suit" but literally part of the wedding procession were in inflatable Patrick Star costumes. they went outside to film the Battle of the Patricks at some point, it was a highlight. best event ive ever been to.

I love this story, though I've heard it several times. I'm a trans woman, so I understand his situation. As long as he was comfortable doing it for a laugh... My parents don't exactly accept me being trans, though they won't disown me. They put up with me wearing my choice of clothes when I visited them last year, even a cocktail dress at a big family party. I do have friends who are in worse position. Some have been disowned (or threatened to) by their families, or thrown out (including a 19yo trans masculine non-binary).

Ive been married for 50+ years. When my husband's family and mine got together we witnessed a major fubar. The first meeting was a nightmare and each following meeting got worse. So after a few months of watching our wedding becoming more about their demands than our wants, I called my husband at work and asked if he wanted to get married, he said yes, so I told him to meet me at city hall. We got married by a judge and went to our favorite restaurant and had drinks and great food WE liked and danced to jukebox music. The next day we told our families we were married and their wedding won't be needed now. Lol needless to say we were not liked for awhile. Don't let the wedding planning dominate the real thing thats most important, your love and start of a new life for you both. Stay healthy, happy and safe always. Blessed be

I did the same thing. My mother was insisting on a huge event, with tons of people we didn't know, because she went to their kids wedding and wanted a "return on her investment. Goldfish live a long time if they are cared for properly. They are pretty, social and generally easy to look after. Oxygen, clean water, space and food. And relaxing to watch. I used to have Axolotl and they are also funny and easy to keep.
@tsunemara
@tsunemara 2 жыл бұрын
@@adelucas4824 yeah. These were just the inbred, feeder goldfish, so they had a lot of issues when they got bigger. Like bent backs, their swim bladders going bad, their tails twisting in bad ways. We had to euthanize most of them when they got older because there was just no way to fix what they had wrong. But we got a couple of huge 100 gallon tanks, stands, all the bits and bobbles. That was back when we worked 80+ hours at a grocery store and made good money. So we gave them everything we could. They were the best fish too. Super smart.

About the goldfish. My middle school prom did the exact same thing. They bought a bunch of small fish and put them in little jars on tables. When they died, they replaced them with more small fish they had in a bucket in the teacher's lounge. I'd estimate the death count totaled to 20-30. They were going to flush the survivors. I took the remaining live small fish, all eight of them, home with me that night. They lived 3 years, and that's 3 years longer than their lost comrades. The lives taken that day will not be forgotten.

A similar thing happened when I was in middle school too, but on a much smaller scale, thankfully. We had a science fair, and I don't even remember what my own project was, but one of my classmates made one of those baking soda + vinegar volcanos, and he put a little plastic pond at the base of the volcano to make it into a scene. He also had two goldfish swimming around in it. He didn't win the science fair, and got so pissed off about it that he said he was going to flush the fish, so I asked him if I could have them instead.

important note on that dress code story at 24:56 - major part of the backlash was the dress code being based on guest's weight. women over 160lbs/men over 200lbs were expected to wear the black/camo to "represent the bad energies" iirc? not to mention, women under 160lbs were expected to wear loubotin red heels and a burberry scarf (both very expensive brands from several hundred to over a thousand each) she also stated in her original post they expected everyone to drop at LEAST $1,000 on their own outfits

Wedding party rules: You do not get to ask them to do anything to their appearance that cannot be undone by the next day.
@feha92
@feha92 Жыл бұрын
Pretty good rule, except I would like to change it up a bit: it is fine to ask if they are ok with going further, but they are very much allowed to say no. Be clear about that second part so they don't feel forced. Granted, you are also allowed to say that it is a requirement for taking the role of whatever crazy marriage roles ppl have to play in marriages ("[...] of honor"?), because themes at parties are a thing... But expect it to be very hard to find someone who want to play that role then. And on the other side of such a situation, if someone does tell you it is a requirement, know that it is perfectly fine to decline the role then. If they are worthwhile friends you will obviously still be invited and no tough feelings will have been had - on either side. Their party/ceremony, so let them make it go however they wish (some ppl want certain relationships in specific roles, but others want aesthetics. Respect both sides!). The only thing they *can't do is **_who_** is involved with which part,* and if no friend is willing then they either need to give up on that idea or hire their own ceremonial staff (who also have to be ok with it). The main issue with interpersonal relationships (beside misunderstandings) are always expectations. Specifically mismatching expectations. Let ppl do what they wish. Don't expect them to offer and modify a role you otherwise wouldn't fit. Don't expect others to conform to a role you prepared for them. The piercing one was extra wild though, as clips can look anyway you want. Hell, she could have gotten the exact piercings she liked, handed them to a goldsmith to modify them into clips, and gotten clips that look exactly as she desires. TL;DR ppl can ask for whatever they wish, and even demand anything they want from ceremonial roles, that's fine. They just cant demand a specific person to then also *fill/accept* the ceremonial role in question. If they are worthwhile friends they will happily accept rejections when asking about someone's willingness, and said friend will happily accept that the role has a requirement they don't fit and reject the request on that basis. Also, clips can have any design, lol.

My BFF got married shortly after my brother died. We no longer live in the same country and I didn't tell her when it happened (she knew my brother when we were teenagers) because she'd just had a baby and was a month away from her long-planned wedding. When i saw her ahead of the bachelorette party I was legitimately worried about telling her because I thought she'd be upset that she wasn't able to be there for me at the time (because ocean, baby, wedding, other understandable life stuff) but I knew it would come up at the wedding. So I told her, we cried, we drank industrial quantities of Aperol, and it was lovely to be with my friend for her wedding weekend, even though I was a bit withdrawn. I can't imagine a real friend being so "all about me" as to not want a friend to celebrate with them even though they're hurting.

I couldn't remember the specifics for the Polygraph Party bride but I remember seeing it on Tumblr so I tried looking it up again and it was WILD The bride wanted her guests to spend over $1,000 on their outfits so they could all do synchronized dancing on the beach. Outfit colors were based on the person's weight (women under 160 pounds had to wear a green sweater, orange pants, and red Loubotin heels, men under 160 needed a soda hat and a fuzzy purple sweater with white shoes, women over 160 were required all black, men over 160 needed all camo and black shoes). Even children weren't free from this nightmare - they had to wear all red since they were gonna make a heart shape in this mess of a dance somehow?? In addition to all this they needed to bring another outfit along so they could change into formal attire for reception after. Like, no shit someone posted that to shame the dress code, it's ridiculous!

idk i wouldn't. i'd want a classy affair where the kids wear little traditional tuxedos and dresses. that said i won't go the binary route, if a boy child wants to wear a dress, i wouldn't question it i'd let him without an issue. if a little girl wanted to wear a brightly colored tuxedo i'd be more than down to find her one. however, animal circus costumes and other costumes at an event where everybody else including some other children that are wearing traditional wedding clothes is going to be a bit much and i'd put my foot down. but a lion costume at a classy event such as a wedding that will be memorable for the rest of my life i'd want a dress code with no funky costumes. the kid could wear a lion costume at my birthday party. not my wedding though, hell no. 😬ill allow it at any event but a wedding. even a funeral, yes even a funeral because it could spark joy on a horribly sad day. but not a wedding with a dress code for everyone and every child to follow, traditional dresses and tuxedos, men could even wear dresses and makeup and wigs but it has to be dresses and tuxedos, not animal costumes or halloween costumes or anything besides the simple theme. especially for wedding photos. 😒 especialllyyyyy wedding photos that could be used for some other big event like heck a divorce party, a kid could even wear a costume at the divorce party. still not the wedding photos thats just where i gotta draw the line. there has to be a line somewhere and im drawing it at wedding photos, because its an event where you're happy, you're in love, you're married, you want to look your best, dress your best, have your friends and family dress their best. take fabulous classy high standard wedding photos, without circus bombers. its the day to shine not the day to be a clown. have some class or any point in standards. 😶‍🌫

She should be able to just cry it off in about 30min and be done with it. They are usually quiet during the times when it's needed and have their own fun during the reception. They just run around outside, play with balloons and confetti, take funny pics with props and stuff their faces with cake until they pass out on a chair. Meanwhile the adults get smashed and basically do the same things?! I would be freaked out at a wedding without kids and automatically think the hosts are heartless. Yeah goldfish are so misunderstood and I was already going to be mad at that post because of how often this happens with poor abused betta fish, which are also very sweet, personable critters when properly cared for, then I realized they somehow did something even worse. The ONLY saving grace with using betta fish instead is they're smaller, have a significantly smaller bioload and are labyrinth fish- which means they won't suffocate in five minutes in such cramped conditions or in stagnant water. That doesn't, however, excuse the fact that these people are animal abusers no matter which fish species they choose. Those poor baby giants probably didn't even survive until the end of the event, now imma go give my mostly white baby comet goldy some duckweed because dang, posts like that are just saddening so I think a great response is go love your own pets, counter this negativity with genuine care

So, and this may have been the case for the person/people who arranged that wedding, I don't really understand what's wrong with that one (I only had fish when I was little, so I don't really know that much about caring for them). The fish were clearly in water; how come they couldn't breathe?
@discordiacreates6669
@discordiacreates6669 2 жыл бұрын
@@hippienerd166 well the issue is that just being in water isn't the issue, fish release ammonia in their droppings and I believe it's also been said that they "sweat" it through their skin as well, which is why they need to be in a larger volume of water then their body mass because ammonia burns their skin and gills, basically like suddenly developing asthma and a bad sunburn at the same time. Also water may be chemically bonded H2O but as the oxygen is bonded to the hydrogen... They can't breath it. Bettas being labyrinth fish actually have a basic lung or lung-like organ that allows them to breath air, though they still can't live on land since their skin cannot retain moisture like ours can. Goldfish though, are not labyrinth fish and rely solely on their gills to filter unbonded, or dissolved oxygen from the water. This... Doesn't really work well in a very small space and some fish require a lot more oxygen then others, which means needing live plants and/or surface agitation from a powered device (usually a filter but bubblers do the same thing as well, just without the benefit of cleaning anything) and goldfish having one of the highest bioloads of any "tank" fish means they're really in trouble. Higher bioload means more ammonia put off by the fish, lower available oxygen and after hours of this, they'll be forced to gasping at the surface for air and their skin and scales will be agitated, I just really hope it's a few hours max because after longer then that, assuming they survive, they can start losing scales, their fins can start to melt and overall, it's painful. People really wanna put something alive and aquatic in such a small space, small shrimp species or smaller (often considered pest) snail species are far more forgiving as they don't produce as much waste or need as much space when you're not breeding them. That or, use small succulent plants, or better yet, stick to fake plants for decor, anything else but using a 1-3 month old fish fry when comet goldfish get well over 1ft and can live up to 30+yrs

31:47 traditionally you have up to a full year after the wedding to give a gift. My mother almost always opts for a customized (engraved with names and wedding date) sterling silver ornament for the couple’s first Christmas tree to be sent the November following the wedding. She figures it is more meaningful than more dish towels. That said most people who do purchase from the registry don’t want to store that stuff for too long and will purchase maybe a month or so ahead, or go with a gift card for the place you were registered so you can grab what wasn’t purchased later. Or there’s my personal favorite, a nice fat giftcard to the local spice specialty store. Spices are expensive but having a rack of quality spices and seasonings makes meal prep easier and home cooked food so much tastier.

I've only attended to 1 wedding in my adult life and it was a bad timing, I was a single parent of a 4 months old on maternity leave so I had no money, was still breastfeeding ect... My friend was fine with the baby, told me to pay what I was able to, she just wanted me to come and honestly, that was one of the best day I had as a new mom! Baby in the baby carrier loved the attention we left the room for the few minutes she cried, ppl at my table who I didn't know gave me a hand for the buffet and the party was so fun even if I couldn't stay long. It's not hard to be a decent human being ffs (on both sides, I would've left if my kid was fussy and disturbing the ceremony)

My first wedding was traditional, planned and executed by our families. It was beautiful and a pretty relaxed vibe. There was minimal drama and the reception was pretty short (and tbh boring). Because of our family religions, our ceremony and reception were in the church...so that meant no dancing, drinking, or outside music. I didn't have a bachelorette party, and spent what would have been a party making centerpieces for the reception the next day. My current husband had a similar first wedding. So, when our wedding came around we didn't want the super serious wedding full of stress and everyone else calling the shots. We had a 5 minute riverside service of "Do you?"...Yes... "Do you?"... Yes. "You may kiss the bride." Then we all stripped down to our bathing suits and had a floating reception. We had coolers of alcohol/food on tubes and we all just relaxed and partied on the river, while the kids swam/played around us. It was honestly one of the chillest weddings and receptions we've ever been to. A few of our friends and relatives decided to copy the theme and instead of doing a courthouse wedding, they chose to do the same. 😊 It just shows that the most important thing isn't how expensive or big your wedding is, it is about celebrating your love with your partner and the people you love the most. 🥰❤️

I got married last year and it was the first wedding my brother had attended since his own. His wife died 10 days later and he took it really hard. At my wedding, he had a really hard time all day and during my first dance he started crying. One of my favorite aunts comforted him and missed the whole dance. Did I throw a fit about them missing it? No! Of course not! I went to check on him when it was done and made sure he was doing ok and let him have his moment. I even offered him some space if he wanted to be alone. I can't understand a bride wanting someone not to come after a traumatic event happened. I would only be there for that person more than before since I know things would be more difficult for them.

I wanted a black/grey wedding dress. After months of searching every store with zero luck, my fiance convinced me it would be okay for me to spend 1/5 of our wedding budget on hiring a seamstress/designer to make my dream dress. I found a designer who was featuring a blue ombre wedding dress that matched the style I was hoping for (I just wanted back/grey instead of blue). Contacted her and things went well, worked with my budget (we still went OVER what I was hoping to spend), and designed a dress I was super excited about. A mix of black, tan, and white tulle going from dark at the bottom to white at the bust. I was so happy with the design, better than I'd hoped to ever get... Then the end times hit, so I only got a fitting with the initial mock up all in scrap fabric (typical for first mock up). I only got to see my dress about 1 week before the wedding. It was then that I found a FULLY WHITE dress. The designer had decided I "didn't look like a goth" so she changed the plans and only added a bit of black lace around the waistline. I paid 5x the price for a slightly nicer version of the dresses I'd been unsatisfied with at all the wedding stores and had no possibility to fix it.

I also didn't really have another choice, if I wanted ANY dress that would fit for my wedding, I had to take it because I had less than a week between when I got the white dress and my wedding date. Even if I wanted to, there wasn't enough time to find a replacement and get it altered to fit me properly.

The plum dress was actually kinda spicy. I don't remember all the details but it started out as a r/AITA post. The marriage was between OP's brother(or maybe cousin? I dont quite recall). From the start, OP was being left out of the loop for all the wedding plans. She was out of state, attending college, and her only method to communicate about the wedding was via text. She had reached out to the bride dozens of times, trying to figure out what the right shade of purple was for the bridesmaid dresses. She never got a proper response and just had to wing it. Then when it turns out she actually got the wrong shade, the bride blows up and tells OP to fix it or she's not welcome at the wedding. But she had to wait until the last minute to get that dress and there wasn't time to get a new one. Poor OP was so stressed out of her mind that she was considering just not going(the wedding was also on the same day as her last final exam) and that's what she posted about to aita(iirc anyway. I couldn't find the op or the Charlotte Dobre vid that I heard about it from). She later learned that the bride was scheming to keep op out of the wedding from the start. When op told groom about it, he called off the wedding. There are probably details I'm forgetting but that's the gist of it.

5:34 hit me in the soul. So, 2009, my best friend died in a skiing accident. It was really traumatic for a lot of us, and as these kind of things do, makes people reflect on the people they have gotten out of touch with. My fiancé got back in touch with his former best friend, who was a girl. I asked just once, if he had had deeper feelings for her. He insisted they saw each other as siblings, and I decided to trust that as she became a part of his life again. (Kinda funny foreshadowing: her first dinner with us, I made lasagna but was out of casserole dishes so I had used my heart-shaped silicone cake mold. She used a sharp knife to get the lasagna out of the mold and cut up the silicone) A few years later, (we were still only engaged, not married, he wanted to wait until we could afford one) he started to get withdrawn and depressed and I tried to support him as much as I reasonably could, and encouraged him to go away for a few days, visiting her since she had moved to another city. I came over the weekend, and at one point had a heart-to-heart with her about how I was afraid that this depressive episode and hiw withdrawal attitude was the buildup to him breaking up. She insisted to me that we were soulmates and that was not gonna happen. Once he came back, he was still withdrawn. And a few days later broke up with me. I asked, again, if he had caught feelings for her, because statistically, men tend to break off relationships only when they have found someone new to latch on to and very rarely break up to remain single. He said this was for him, he wasn't interested in pursuiting a relationship with her. Two weeks after he had kicked me out of the apartment, he came over to my dad's house to pick up some stuff he had mislabeled as mine when we packed my stuff, and tried to coax out of me if I had made it official with this guy I was close to, whom he had encouraged me pre-breakup to have as a hallpass. I had not, because my focus then was at school, once I finished game dev, we would discuss it, but I was contemplating how I am as a person in relationships. That had been his attempt at softening the guilt over telling me he and that girl did get together, and at least letting me know through him instead of social media where they made it official later said evening. They got engaged about two months later, and had a wedding the next year, I dunno who of their parents paid but they had the reception in a castle. My sister was invited and she told me that the wedding speeches were so awkward for her and her hubby, sitting and listening to all these "they were always meant to be" and "they found each other again after having gotten out of touch", knowing the full story.

I've seen videos of brides handing their bouquet to a bridesmaid instead of throwing it to all the non married women, while the bridesmaid's boyfriend approached to propose. It can actually be really sweet because it celebrates the bride's friendship with the other woman too. BUT it only works under specific circumstances. The bride would need to be really good friends with the other woman and her boyfriend, the guy should really be the one asking the bride if he can do that (I believe in the example in this video it was his mother asking? that's ridiculous) and there should be no hard feelings if she says no because it's not the sort of thing that would be special in all weddings. It really only works if it's a small wedding and most of the guests are friends with all four people (bride, groom, man proposing and his woman) because there's nothing quite so awkward as making strangers who are there to specifically celebrate a different couple cheer for a couple they don't know.

My niece, who was my only bridesmaid, wore a blue semi-formal dress I picked out. My husband wore jeans, a button down dress shirt, and his well-used work boots. My husband's only groomsman, his best friend since middle school, waved his truck keys at my husband as the ceremony was about to start and said "there's still time to run". All told, a grand total of $200 was spent, mostly on mine and niece's dresses. The rest was the payment for minister. I wouldn't change a thing.😊
