Since the controversy, Dolezal has been spending her time at home in Spokane trying to rebuild her life. These days she goes by a new legal name, Nkechi Amare Diallo, but she’s using the name that made her famous to publish her new memoir, “In Full Color.” WATCH Next: bit.ly/2wVgQck

This whole thing is just so confusing to me. I wouldn't have any clue as to how to identify as something or someone other than myself. I went to a vocational high school and studied automotive technology, I was still all girl, but by today's standards people might assume I was identifying as a man. I also listen to old school rap, r&b and hip hop and have naturally curly hair, I still identify as myself, which just happens to be a super pale white girl. How does one identify as something they have never been? I just don't get it.

@johnlemon1977
@johnlemon1977 5 жыл бұрын
@@hunibuni No, the comparison wasn't obvious. The South african identity has been formed on the basis of the diverse cultures and races in its country. No identity was stolen. While colonization took place, different cultures and values were introduced to the country which is what it is made up of today. After democracy all these cultures merged to create South African Culture. South African culture incorporates African culture along with Afrikaner and Indian culture. I think you're getting confused here. Yes we understand the indigenous south africans were colonized, but these were the ways of war and conquering before peace, and subsequently that created a diverse south africa, which is what our identity is today. Your argument is like saying African American are not truly Americans. Yes they are, because of the generations of their people who have lived there. Now we're not talking about how the black race became American, but you can't deny that they are Americans. I think you're confused about race and nationality

Lili That is because she isn’t THAT good. Being Black gives her instant credibility, upon which she built her activist career-in a half-ass way. Initially, though, she sued Howard U (an HBCU) for discriminating against her for being White and, since then, she has been benefitting from Affirmative Action-based scholarships and employment opportunities, right? That shows you she couldn’t make it as a White woman for equality.

Apologize to the NAACP and those you deceived..people may forgive her. I saw her Netflix doc'...and I felt a little bit for her because it seems her parents were horrible abusive people. Agreed. She made the situation worse because of her family problems and the need to escape some harsh psychological reality she associated with being white. However, the fact that she's been able to take on another identity and mask it with some philosophical rhetoric is what gets to people. It exempts her from feeling any empathy or exercising the black consciousness she may claim to have. That's offensive and self-serving. She can be pro-Black and be an ally but she needs to make peace with her "brothers and sisters".

"so what's the difference between this in gender reassignment?" Not much, both is pretty iffy. But there are differences, for example a typical female brain is different to a typical male brain. There is no such thing as a "black" brain, so to say that you were born with the wrong ethnicity is just fucking retarded, since that would mean that your brain and your body do not match, which is completely and entirely impossible in the case of "transracialism(?)" :D
@ilse771

jane Patton dafuq is wrong with u? Being transgender is feeling as if you're body does not align with your gender and wish to change that feeling. Besides, being black is not only skin deep, there are a lot of experiences and cultural aspects that go with it. You can definitely learn and mimic culture, but that doesn't mean you are. Also you can't learn your gender. Rachel Dolozeal has NEVER had to go through the hardships and experience of being black, and the fact that she claims she wants to be black with all of the positive and none of the negative is bullshit.

@ilse771
@ilse771 6 жыл бұрын
devinngeorge What does is feel to be white or black? Gender like you personality is fluid, your sex are the physical characteristics. Race is a combination of many many things. Gender dysphoria, what she talks about in the video, is commonly described as feeling like missing a a home they've never lived in. Experiencing a race is vastly more abstract than experiencing gender, because it's more than their physical appearance, it is about culture and the many other abstract experiences that come with it. People who are trans just feel differently on the inside than what they look on the outside, but wish to change their outside so it matches.

I watched the Netflix doc on Rachel, and it was my 22 year old daughter who, I believe, saw the truth. "Mom, I think she has some rare version of DID." I thought about it and Rachel's words rung in my head. Rachel, with tears, saying she could never be that "white person" again. I believe she has so much unresolved trauma, and when she stepped up to the plate to care for her younger black brother, she became a "strong black woman" and she banished the traumatized white part of herself to the darkest shadows of her psyche. I truly believe that she completely identifies with the "black persona" that she created. I believe she has a mental illness, and I am sad that someone who did so much for the black community, has been maligned to the extent that she has been. I am actually astonished that more has not been said about what I believe is obvious. Rachel is a woman with unresolved trauma, who experienced adverse childhood experiences, and disassociated from her "white persona," created a "black persona" that she came to believe was herself. DID, or dissociative identity disorder seems like a possibility. When she speaks, her slow speech, especially when asked questions about her white upbringing, also leads me to believe that she is dissociated from this part of herself, and she has fully become a "black woman" in her mind. Which to me, says she is not lying, she is just mentally disordered. I wish people had more understanding and did not drag her and her family through the coals so harshly. I do get it, it must be incredibly frustrating, as a black person, to have someone put on "black face" and do a whole charade, I do get it. AND, I also feel for Rachel Dolezal, whom I believe has legitimate mental health disorder and needs treatment, not hate.

imo it's really not, you can't choose to be trans, she is CHOOSING to identify as black, to crimp her hair and tan her skin. She is using the language that is used to describe being transgender/ non binary in the sense that she says that she 'identifies as black' and says race is 'fluid' but we all know that's a bit bs. She certainly has a point, race is an unnecessary construct literally only used to divide people during the times of colonisation. But the way in which she is trying to combat this is just ridiculous. She wasn't born 'black' or identifying as 'black' like transgender people may identify as their true gender whilst being born as a different sex. She is using her CHOSEN identity to make a political statement about race and to support her sister's abuse and trauma, but she's suggesting that to support black people, you have to BE BLACK which is honestly a terrible message to spread, because a black issue should be everybody's issue. If there was an instance of police brutality,, you don't need to TURN BLACK to support BLM. I just think she's a bit silly and this interviewer could have been a bit more direct in challenging her so-called 'blackness'. [p.s. i didn't mean to attack you opinion, I just wanted to put this out there as a point of view!]

kevin a Such a fluid conceptualization of race/ethnicity would be particularly be disconcerting in today’s identify politics-filled society in the U.S. Asian students have already learned not to disclose their race/ethnicity on college applications, in order to circumvent the higher criteria top American universities have set for them (although most of them have distinctly Asian last names, which makes this non-disclosure tactic useless). Right now, the trend is to accuse ALL White people of being privileged and racist. Given Eliz Warren’s situation, I’d imagine more and more White people will begin to claim minority statuses (e.g., my grandfather was Black/Latinx/Native American, etc. etc.), so as to fight back against the ridiculous blanket accusation that all White are privileged and racist. If somebody were to claim that one of his/her great grandparents, whom they have never met, was Black, no documentations are required for them to check that “Black” box and, thus, we would have to honor this identity.

Biological women are being discriminated against, abused, mutilated and murdered worldwide because of their sex, overwhelmingly by men. We have safe spaces for a reason. Transidentifying males takes away our spaces, our safety, our achiements in sports, our roles and positions. Just look at Caitlyn Jenner being "Woman of the Year", transidentifying men being "the first female CEO", sexual predators "identifying" as women to be housed in women's prisons, etc

This is such a dumb comment and the fact that its still up says a lot about you. Gender and race are both social constructs but they are not the same. Gender is NOT passed down, when a couple is expecting a child they can't choose what the baby will be. However, if two black people are expecting a child, that child will definitely be black. Race is passed down and gender is not.

She should have said "I am white but feel like an African American at heart bacause I admire them and they inspire me to be strong and hardworking." She could've been a great example for others to follow, but she chose to lie instead.

I don't think you can compare that to blackface, blackface was done to make fun of black people, she was doing it because she admired black culture and wanted to be black herself. Also I think she wanted to belong to a community. Her idea of transrace is very weird, but I think she didn't do it out of bad intentions and even fought for the black community for years. So just shunning her and telling her she is a bad person is very harsh I think
