I think a big part of his flirting was also to determine whether he can trust her. He's got a lot to loose beyond his own life by coming out as part of a rebel plot. He doesn't know if Katniss is solid enough to risk Annie's safety. He plants the idea of prestige and wealth in the capital to see how she reacts. He offers her sugar that's not his to give. He flirts with her quietly, so it's relatively safe for her to flirt back. She rejects his offer of sugar, smoothly deflects his flirting, and doesn't even seem amused by the idea of prestige and wealth. She can't be bought. Now, saying that, I wonder if this wasn't just a little bit a reference to the Devil tempting Jesus in the desert. I used to hate how my 9th grade lit teacher always brought it back to Christ symbolism, and now look at me.

I was raised Wiccan by autistic nerds who themselves didn't really get Christianized either, so I learned to appreciate the influence of Christian-mythology-and-symbolism in a way that I feel is privilegedly divorced from how it's blended with indoctrination and religious trauma for so many people. All this to say, I think there's nothing wrong or bad at all about using Christian mythology references to describe or dissect things we observe in the arts, and it doesn't ever have to imply any authorial intent to create parallels. Christianity just happens to be a really popular canon/reference point for a lot of tropes/archetypes/ideas, and I think in many ways that's a useful common cultural vocabulary to have when we're analyzing and discussing literature. So yeah, I'm glad you chose to draw that parallel here, it's a quick and efficient way to give us all a sense of the mini-plots and vibes and conceptual-aesthetic that particular myth contains!

Finnick is easily one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise. He’s so complex and engaging, so funny but also rich and layered. I love him and his death wrecks me every time.

I love these sort of deep dives into the HG series. There is so much depth to everything in them; Suzanne really added layers upon layers of layers.

He also literally tells her that he isn't supposed to be eating the sugar cubes. They are for the horses, but he figures if they are all going to die anyway who cares if they steal something.

I can’t remember if this was in the book or not, but Peeta asked Katniss what Finnick wanted Katniss: To know all of my secrets. Peeta: Well, he’ll have to get in line. Not sure if that was necessarily foreshadowing or not, but I found the line interesting.

ah so this is dialogue is in the movie, but not in the book. Here's what's in the book: Katniss: He offered me sugar and wanted to know all my secrets Peeta: (laughs) Ugh. Not really. Katniss: Really. I'll tell you more when my skin stops crawling

Great catch. Finnick's a wonderfully complex dude and I love this deep dive; I wish we knew more about Finnick's Games, but there's a lot in there we can dissect to figure out just the same. LOVE this.

I have a question ( if you could make a video on this taht would be amazing too!!) why does no one talk about how charming Peeta is, like ? Is it just since Peeta wasn’t going to be the “mockingjay”?
@DeathnoteBB17 күн бұрын
Because he’s a soft feminine boy so people just disregard him, unfortunately, at least movie-watchers seem to.

When I was younger, I was a Gale fan too until reality slapped me in the face (previous relationship fails) that I realized, maybe what I need is a Peeta in my life - someone who would bring peace which for me, what Peeta symbolized.
@carpevinum864516 күн бұрын
Peeta's strengths are subtle. And complimentary. He empowers others. His charm is used to centre others. So he redirects the focus away from himself in his actions.
@RachelARamras15 күн бұрын
To me it seems like other characters are very aware of how charming/charismatic Peeta is. He’s praised for his public appearances and liked by everyone. Even Gale says it’s hard to hate Peeta since he’s such a good guy

BABE! I’m currently rereading TBOSAS & Tigris literally gives bread pudding to Snow for Lucy Gray & says, “And there’s plenty, so you can take a piece to Lucy Gray. She said she liked sweet things - and I doubt there are many left in her future!” The way I SCREAMED. He might be trying to see if she even knows anything about Lucy Gray to help with what type of things they can share w her/what she’ll get it 🤯 - let’s keep in mind his mentor/fellow Victor Mags won the 11th Games & we know she was a huge part of the rebel plans & the most likely to have heard anything about Lucy Gray’s Games. We know Tigris also likely styled a Career District during her time working for the Games. I feel like there’s so much lore added to this tiny conversation from TBOSAS! Also I love that all the Victors play up how uncomfy Katniss is around anything overtly sexual. They all try to throw her off there like a fun little welcome to the family game. Poor little innocent INFJ Katniss haha. I love Katniss & Finnick’s friendship coz Finnick genuinely teaches her how to express her feelings - it’s evident he’s an ENFJ & I just think it’s the most precious thing. No one else could have helped her with that. I bet he helped Haymitch (also an INFJ) with it too which is why Haymitch trusts Finnick w Katniss.

I don't think Finnick or Katniss have any reason to know anything at all about that moment with Tigress, but I bet you're right that it was still a subtle parallel moment that was placed there on purpose
