This is an "indoors" outfit or an outfit you would wear for semi formal events or presentations. In-field dress is a total 180 degree change. You start with several layers, eat lunch with 1 layer, and go to dinner with several layers. Night clothes will be several layers as well. It can actually get really cold at night on the Eastern/Northeastern coast of Africa of a night. You often wake up to frost.

My friends and I are part of a group who dress in 1920's/30's period attire regularly and one of our members had formed a good relationship with her. We were all invited to a steamboat Nile river cruise, the cost was $3k per person (Not counting all of the other fees that might have been racked up along the way). While I would adore such a trip, and the chance to meet Colleen, none of the members in our group had the funds to do so as we all worked minimum wage jobs. Here's to the future though. I started watching this video’s intro and actually burst into tears.... When I was younger, my grandma passed away, and my grandpa decided to sell my mother’s childhood home and move into a retirement community. I was young when the sale went through, but my most vivid memory is that it was sold to a pair of Egyptologists, and the woman had a beautiful severe black haircut. I was excited that they planned to not alter the house much because it was protected by the historical society. And when I saw this intro, I suddenly saw the living room where I spent so many Christmases when I was young, and had so many amazing memories. I felt so much nostalgic joy and heartache seeing this house again, and seeing how little it’s changed. Thank you for giving me a little sneak peek into a home that meant so, so much to me throughout the first half of my life. It’s so good to see that the house is being so cared for

First off, LOVE your channel, been binging for quite some time while entering data. You've been one of the main influences on my journey to vintage fashion. So thank you very, very much. I'm a professional entomologist (I study our little 6-legged friends, the 'bugs') and I LOVE THIS MOVIE, one of my absolute favs of all time. BUT my gosh, poor scarabs. Such a bad example of our lovely little buds. Scarab's don't fly well, don't crawl fast, and do not eat living flesh (there are some exceptions to the rules, as with all things/beings, but you never get the trio or even two together haha). I keep the cuties as pets and take them to outreach events all the time. Unless you are dead and half decayed or something with a very very thin epidermal layer, aka skin (and absolutely tiny) like a small frog, you have NOTHING to fear from a scarab. Most... ok mostly all, are cute little dung eaters that help to clear waste we'd prefer not to step on. PS most of their cute little mouths don't even have the capability to bite if they'd like. Again, love the channel, you helped me a lot throughout the pandemic. You ever want some help on insect related things, just contact your local beetle gal.

i know what you mean! for me, it was the tv show "who do you think you are" they trace a celebrity's ancestry, and the historians tell them their findings and go into detail about their ancestors' lives. made me realize how important history class is (i always thought it was boring in school). on a side note, it also made me realize why it is so important to have a son (to carry on a family name). there was one episode, where they traced the lineage and found out she came from royalty. the daughter of king edward (can't remember which king edward) married a man, took on his last name, and by the time the family tree moved down several generations to the celebrity, the royal name was buried. such an amazing and important history in their family, and it disappeared, just because the female didn't get to carry on the name.

It may not be accurate at all, but the time it was made in, I think it’s at least a nice representation? As in, “hey look how cool Egypt was/is!” And not a “hey look how savage Egypt was/is!” Because when I watched it as a kid, it made me want to learn more about Egypt and the general regions history. Moving forward all us movie lovers should be more critical of the representation, but we also have to remember that some movies could be used as a “what not to do” then banished all together.

I'm just in awe of this woman, she's living the life. I remember when I was a kid and obsessed with ancient Egyptian culture and mythology: I had all the NatGeo magazines about Egypt and a bunch of maps, posters and books, and I would always get up really early on weekends to catch documentaries on the Discovery Channel and such (oh, to long for simpler times, when History Channel didn't mostly talk about aliens all day). I actually almost went to college for archaeology at one point, and am now studying Image and Sound Design with the intent to specialize in art direction and costuming, currently dipping my toes into historical costuming, so Colleen is out here living the other flip side to my dream life and killing it. Truely iconic.

I did have her as a teacher in school! She was my art history prof a couple years back; it was quite an enjoyable class. It's nice to have a professor with personal, first-hand experience of the subject matter.

So much fun! I was always fascinated by ancient Egyptian "stuff' and actually read, "The Egyptian" in 8th grade all 1000+ pages twice 😀 Thank you Rachel. Massive enjoyment here
