You know when you're sitting, minding your own business... and then you get STRUCK with the urge to make giant versions of small items to wear? Yeah, me too. So that's this week's video!
Welcome to my brain where niche nostalgic 90's movies make a sudden appearance and don't leave. This time I decided I wanted to dress like my own version of The Borrowers 1997: A true cinematic masterpiece.
I made the whole outfit within 3 days and I regret NOTHING.

3:32 - 3:37 Back in 2000 when I first got out if high school (& yes I *KNOW* this confession dates me!) I worked as a receptionist. Part if my job was to go through & file *TONES* of paper documents. To stop myself from constantly getting paper. Cuts on my fingers I wore rubber thimbles. That not only protected my fingers. But had little grippy knobs on them to help me grip the papers more easily. Her shoes kinda look like they were made from rubber thimbles. These days most everything is digital so the need for rubber thimbles is not really required. So not many people will recognise them.

RACHEL!! I love this project so much, but PLEASE do not use the "patchwork fabric" in a project that requires you to cut it! That's called a crazy quilt top and they are historically significant primary sources. That one looks like it's in really great condition and it actually has names and dates which means it's even better!! Turn it into a wall hanging or a quilt, but please don't cut it up 😭😭😭

Honestly, Rachel gives me the same excitement/enjoyment JennaMarbles did when she was on KZbin, and I am absolutely here for it. Though nobody could ever replicate Jenna, Rachel has that same "I'm gonna make videos about what I want and what I enjoy" kind of energy and there is honestly something so wonderful and genuine and refreshing about that. Like, I will never NOT be excited when I get the notification for a new video she's posted, regardless of what the content of the video actually is.

No, just no. Due to how KZbin is and for respect of Rachel's channel I'll just nicely say. Don't compare Rachel to a no good, no talent, no name nobody lie jenna marbles. The only reason why she was so popular was due to her wearing skimpy clothes and cosplays and every dude around was drooling over her while getting their jollies off. So I said it before and say it again. Don't compare Rachel to someone like jenna marbles.
@DanielleVlog365
@DanielleVlog365 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeXTheXJuggalo1 Not that she needed to for anyone but herself, but Jenna literally stopped all of that years ago, found a much better boyfriend, (now fiancé), switched her brand, expanded her talents, and gained many more followers. She also, unprompted, took down a lot of her earlier videos she thought may be hurtful or have harmful messaging. She was a big gamer, crafter, pet parent, plant person, etc. Her channel and Julien's have been for everyone. Also, Rachel replied to this and was appreciative. She likes Jenna too, and has mentioned it before. I also don't think she would appreciate a dude defending her by putting down another woman or content creator, but that is just my guess, as I can't speak for her.

I had no idea there was another borrowers film aside form Ghibli's Secret World of Arrietty, but the book series was a HUGE part of my childhood and you really, viscerally took me on a nostalgia trip with this. I need to find where my copies of the books have ended up, maybe even hunt them down in the original language to reread. There's something extremely delightful and whimsical about cottagecore at that size. Edit: SO MUCH KUDOS for actually trying to make something shaped out of the giant knit! I know I'd probably have just cut it into 2 (or 3 i suppose, i like my front opening clothes) rectagles and made the world's simplest sleeveless jacket/coat :'D

My moral quandary is old linen tablecloths. I see one and think "this is such high-quality linen, it would be great for making shirt ruffles," but then I see that it has hand-done embroidery on it, and I feel too guilty to cut up someone else's needlework.

Could you make a whole shirt or skirt out of it, and make a feature of the embroidery around the neckline or hem? I think that would be really honoring the previous stitcher's work. Or, I mean, you could use it as a tablecloth if you don't want to cut it up.

I cannot bring myself to cut up a hand embroidered piece. I always thought the little plastic clip Arriety wears to keep her hair up in the 2010 Ghibli adaptation The Secret World of Arriety was adorable and definitely something I'd try if I was a borrower. The thing about crochet blankets is that I'd imagine they unravel terribly when cut, so I'd try to use the blanket as a whole with some creative gathering (like threading a ribbon through it in strategic locations to gather it down into the shapes you want), then add things on, since crochet takes sewing really well :) That particular zig-zag stitch could be really cute as a skirt or top or even a fun cloak!
@madelineharris6757
@madelineharris6757 Жыл бұрын
If you use the entire width of the blanket and cut just above one of the zig-zag colour changes (would have to cut following the zig-zags too), aside from some little yarn scraps from the cut row it shouldn't unravel at all! If you cut it vertically though and go through the rows then you'd absolutely need to somehow sew and secure every single end

Something like that may save you a bit of heartache, hopefully.

Rachel, if you ever try to make that vest again, lay the pattern so the bottom finished edge of the throw blanket is the bottom finished edge of the vest. I loved watching you create your Macksy-a-tures. For knee pads, the very inexpensive kneepads are made of small cell foam very much like a garden kneeling mat. You could just get some cheap kneepads and cut/ shape them into looking snappy or you could start with a garden kneeling pad. - I , too, have lived often as a floor troll while sewing, crafting, & working. My knees now wish I had used kneepads when my knees were as young as yours are. As the song says-- “You only get one pair of knees. You’ll miss them when they’re gone.” Knee-pad core

There was a great borrowers tv series on the BBC, starring Ian Holm and Penelope Wilton, that I watched religiously on telly back in the day ❤ The costumes aren't as amazing as the film version, but the acting and story line more than make up for it. If you haven't watched that one yet, Rachel, I'd highly recommend it. Oh and fyi the apron in the film adaption is made from a care label, which I friggin love the idea of! I'm always cutting them out of my clothing because they irritate me. So the idea that a borrower is picking them up out of my fabric trash bin and using them for aprons is just so adorable. Hi there, I’m a borrower. My friends and I enjoy watching your program and were so elated when we saw that you were featuring our style! We never thought that it would become a trend among beans. We had to laugh a little, by the way, when the beans fell out of the sack. What a marvelous pun! There are several of us from different families living in our house. It is a very old house, but not the fanciest kind. It started as a very modest dwelling but has sort of turned into a cake house (as we like to call it) because about every owner has added to it over time. It has many layers to it you see. Our house has many hidden nook’s and crannies and the current owners don’t sweep or clean that often. Let’s just say that there are several generations of spiders living here too. Which is just the way we like it! My family lives in the bathroom, behind the sink where there is a little dead space in the wall. I know what you’re thinking. Who would want to live in a bathroom? But honest, it’s the best location for us little folk. It’s right next to the kitchen for one, has a good water supply, has a laundry space attached with more than enough socks to keep us warm and clothed. The beans do complain quite often about mis-matched socks, but it’s fine because who really cares about mis-matched socks?! They hardly ever care when the buttons go missing either. My mother likes to take the loose hair out of the brushes and weaves them into the prettiest garments. Everyone in the community adores them because of they’re daintiness. Something that you just can’t achieve from scraps you’ve borrowed. Well, gotta go. We can’t get caught using the phone and they will be waking up soon. Can’t wait for your next clever video! xoxo P.S. My friend Wynn would like me to ask you if you plan to do anymore videos featuring little things? She just loved your mouse house and wishes she could visit it.

I love the watch-belt idea. I think I might use this but maybe find a cool functioning clock and wear it in the front like a giant statement belt buckle.

I thought it wasn't going to work and then it did and now I will never doubt her again.

Ooooh. I buy tamales from the freezer section, and they come in little cloth bags! With printing all over them! I actually used some of them to make flowers at my wedding. 10/10 it would be amazing for a borrower! Could be used for fabric, a bed sheet or duvet, or because it has a draw string, you could use it to haul home your borrowed items!!!

I've been doing "fun buns" for years, and have red hair....my dad always asked me if I was a Borrower, and obviously I said yes. I have....been wanting....to do something like this....for literally FOREVER. I have had fabric sitting in my stash for YEARS....and now I think for Halloween I'm finally gonna get something done.
