As a filmmaking student, I can't help but resent the fact that D. W. Griffith was from the triple K (who used blackface in his films) and just happened to also make some of the best breakthroughs in the history of filmmaking. It's one of those moments where it's hard to separate the art from the artist because of his influence.

Because I am a member of the Orthodox church and must necessarily stand by its historical teachings and dogmas, best I can do about things forbidden by the church is to extend indifference to those outside it knowing that if it's a problem that God will deal with it and only to really hold people in the church accountable to the standard I'm supposed to follow... If that's not good enough then I can't help. This is probably the biggest reason apart from the covid shutdowns that keeps me as one adjacent to the Fandom rather than as one fully into and in support of it... Also ffa was a disaster full of people I can't associate with.

Kinda similar. Not exactly a Christian myself anymore but still align with most of its teachings. I actually used to be a furry since 2011, but furries' soapbox behavior from 2016 onwards got to a point that by 2021 I just couldn't stand the community anymore and stopped interacting with it. Seeing countless figures' hypocrisy later on only reinforced in me that I may never again have any desire to participate in the fandom itself, even if I still enjoy many furry artists' works to this day and still make some art myself. I just miss the age of furry forums like Furry Pile/Furry-2-Furry where nobody was suggesting that the fandom should be any specific way or another; people were just there to share in art and RPs. But now that the internet is mostly social media-based where everyone chooses to wear their beliefs on their sleeve, the fandom has mostly devolved into either self-righteous hypocrites who have a progressive veneer and act as moral arbiters despite having skeletons in their closet, or "apolitical/nonpolitical" hypocrites trying to [not so subtly] promote right-wing extremism. Some places like KZbin and furry art sites don't seem to suffer from this nearly as much as typical social media or instant messaging platforms tend to though.

@@TurboPikachu what sect that calls itself Christian were you a part of? I know that Catholicism and most protestant denominations are eroding from the inside right now and those that aren't didn't have much binding ecclesiology to begin with and that's one of the reasons why I did become Orthodox recently.

@@ThumbKnuckle I grew up Lutheran, but ever since I was 17 I just kinda drifted away from Christianity. I don't wanna blame my parents but church was more of an obligation than anything. @ThumbKnuckle
@ThumbKnuckle 10 ай бұрын
@@TurboPikachu half of the Lutherans nowadays have capitulated to the culture and the other half is wondering where the Lutheran church went, I was lcms (Missouri synod Lutheran) for a few months after leaving the non-denominational megachurch Christianity my parents had raised me on, but started having some theological issues with that church compared to the Bible and church fathers it confesses to hold to, namely Christ being cut off from the father on good Friday according to them I decided to look into the case for Orthodoxy and it has now consumed my life, I would recommend at least understanding the heritage of every Christian sect as everyone in protestant circles is looking for apostolic Christianity through interpreting a collection of documents removed from their liturgical context, but keeps letting it pass under their nose by ignoring the Orthodox church because of her different teachings coming to their sects. Not only that but most of the churches mentioned in the book of acts that are around today are Orthodox. Knowing now the heritage of most major religions and practices I know where I stand. Without knowing church history nobody really has a reason to keep the faith anyway I'd say. I would also highly recommend attending an Orthodox liturgy and speaking with people at the parish as an inquirer even if you aren't going to go all in on it.

As an very young asian person going to a school full of white people. I was scared going because what if people were extremely racist, it wasn’t bad for the first year in a white school but each year I would start hearing more asian racial slurs and some black racist jokes, I would hear a lot more asian slurs than black racist jokes. I had to realize that students will not get in trouble for saying things like that, teachers will act as if they didn’t hear it, students will become more confident saying racist things out loud because other students will think it’s funny and teachers will ignore. The school will talk about how they support other races but when they hear racist slurs/jokes they will ignore it. Having to start normalizing that white people will get away for being racist because most people living in my city are white.

On the topic of 2 flags meaning the same thing. And why people say "why not just use the one we already have" Because it comes off as race favortism on its own. Theres a multitude of other races. Which aren't slapping their race-brand on symbols. But I wouldn't be surprised if we got a flag version for every single race out there as a reaction to there being a black exclusive flag. The hetero/straight flag was made with such reasoning in mind. As a reaction to every other sexuality having a symbol. TLDR people are mad because one race is being put on a pedestal over others. When the original symbol was all inclusive to everyone.

The sad part about the fandom, as like he said in the video, that trans people from my experience also have a problem with bigotry... I don't have anything against trans people, or the decision to become trans, but the majority of them just seem to like doing it for the attention and power it gives them. And no, I'm not joking, they get pretty offended even when i mistakenly label them "he/him". unfortunately i do that often without thinking about it, as my social skills are rock bottom most of the time, due to my past and how i didn't really have a childhood bc of my parents, and most of my childhood consisted of bullying, physical and mental abuse. And I'm pretty deep in the Autism spectrum as well, so my lack of social skills also stems from having an underdeveloped brain. Also they mostly are he/him to she/her, so apparently they get more power to abuse bc of a broken system... Most encounters i get now with people are like "If i haven't engaged with u in a conversation then fuck off", and "if I'm in a group conversation already, we're just gonna ignore u and prevent u from being a part of anything". It's kinda as if they see me as "stupid" or "dumb", bc either of my opinions are based off of true research on the Internet, and it is not consistent with theirs, or is bc of my autism. It's also the way they act usually twoards me, everyone seems to try to avoid me usually. Now I'm second guessing if it was really worth it to get a pretty decent rig (RTX 3090, 13600K, Valve Index), only to find out noone really likes me. instead i found a better hobby that's a whole lot more rewarding, and that's just tinkering with my car, it's expensive but the returns seem more emotionally and mentally beneficial to me. It's almost like inanimate objects have better relations with me than people, and that's kinda depressing the more that i look at it...

@@cmaslan, sadly an inconsistent amount... I have really only been able to find people in there 30s or 40s who actually feel like they care, but those are people who are rarely on, and have lives. I don't want to bother people, and I definitely don't want to interfere with others lives, but I'm simply unable find anybody who doesn't abuse my sympathy and compassion who is a peer, or is in the same age group as me... I've had 6 past relationships, and every one of them I, alone had to get rid of bc they didn't understand they've consistently triggered past trauma, or has made me feel uncomfortable around them bc of their actions... I'm now asexual, not just bc of this, but bc I now have to improve upon myself without the interactions of others, which has proven to be difficult. I used to release my frustrations through words, now I punch a punching bag till my hands bleed, I used to find an enjoyment in conversing with others, now I find my enjoyment spending my money till I'm broke and tinkering with my car and computer. not the healthiest way of enjoying life but it's all I got left...

I agree with pretty much all of this. I live in a part of the world where there are all sorts of types of people, and you'd think that'd make people less racist, but people are very racist here lol. I do think however, that everyone has biases, no matter how subtle, and that everyone is racist to at least some degree. It's best we all do our best to be aware of those biases and the extent to which they exist. For everyone of a particular race, they are born looking a certain way, and by human nature, people who look differently than them are going to be subconsciously categorized as 'different' and ripples from that categorization can definitely pop up here and there. Now it's just human nature, and we shouldn't be afraid to be ourselves and walk on eggshells all the time, but we should at least be aware of that biological repulsion of things that are different and think about how that applies to social situation and our relationships with people so that we don't behave unfairly or unpleasantly in any meaningful way. For some people, they really get hung up on that and I think that becomes the foundation of the fostering of a lot of racist beliefs. It starts at that biological predisposition and snowballs into some real nastiness. Emotions tend to shape our beliefs in a pretty major way, especially if we're unaware of that and a bit impulsive by nature.

i wouldnt say racial education is a way to prevent racisim as it just brings the topic up in younger children or teens and more often than not teaches someones agenda of creating more hate within the population and usualy ends up with more people being hated on or a group being put on a pedestal and teaching people that they are oppressing or are opressed and that creates conflict with people who have nothing to do with any of it.

This is a really well-thought out explanation of the idea that minorities can be bigots amongst themselves. It's something that is really brushed under the rug in this fandom, and as a Black guy myself, it's super obvious to me when it rears it's ugly head. Though i still believe a lot of it comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding of inter-minority bigotry, and videos like these are a really important step of education which leads to mitigation. I see this in LGBTQ spaces as well. Often pride and other LGBTQ spaces are catered to whiteness, and white LGBTQ people get a sense of immunity for their own implicit biases, and will play their 'card' when called out on the way they exclude BIPOC people from the space. I try to shut it down within the spaces I'm in, and hold other white queers accountable for it, because I want those spaces to be open to my BIPOC friends. I think people in the fandom get this sense that because some people are bigoted to furries, that furries somehow can't also be bigoted. It sucks too because there's not really any systemic or structural oppression of furs, so conflating the experience with BIPOC experiences is kind of gross.

i'm not a furry but i love your videos (i really love watching people who are enthusiastic about stuff lol), and this video is a perfect example of why. you're doin good stuff for your fandom. i got my undergrad degree in history with a focus on lgbt stuff, specifically the stonewall riots and how the post-stonewall groups like the gay liberation front and gay activists alliance went from truly _truly_ radical groups fronted by people like you mentioned, to groups that were overwhelmed by like, white academic lesbians who hated trans women, and you totally nailed it with the facts on that part. truly, my Gay Ass Heart Swells.

Humanity is a lot like fire, honestly probably a bit closer to atomic energy. At first glance, fire brings death and destruction, a mismanaged or uncontrolled fire can burn entire villages to the ground. Humans are a lot like that in the sense that we are 100% capable of extreme destruction. *but* much like a fire, the fire doesn't cause destruction because it wants to kill. Nor is the fire capable of only destruction. Fire allows for one thing to transform into another(literal alchemy shit). Fire allows one to greater a comfortable home with a warm environment. It can be comforting and honestly a relaxing show to watch. Both fire and Humans can dance. Humans when we aren't busy killing each other can create wonderful things. Hell in order to read this we had to *invent* language. We literally built a way to understand and describe the world to one another from the ground up. It's still happening today albeit with weird slang I don't understand. Bigotry against someone because of their race is racism, no ifs ands or buts about it, so that does include against white people - if anything, they're the racists by implying dobermans are exclusively black and trying to gatekeep them from you, like the people who think orcs are racist depictions of black folks; it says more about a person than those they criticise if they see something non-human and their first thoughts is to compare it to a particular race. Honestly, on the internet, if you're using a non-human avatar to represent yourself, it shouldn't matter what race you are, you're free to express yourself however you like as long as you're not actively causing others actual harm - be the doberman you want to be!

Yeah not a furry. But got into gaming when it was considered a loser thing even back then being not white, male and a teenager got ya mocked and harassed on forums in game chats. As well as by your family for wasting your life. Theres a reason the n word is now called the gamer word unironically online. Its just gotten worse with shit like voice chat being a thing. Also was part of the early western anime craze same shit happened there too. Now rhat both are mainstream its gotten better in the larger circles of it but alot worse in the niche circles. 2016 also didnt help. Theres alot of people who do guides and videos on both that i cant watch cuz of the super casual racism, sexism and calling people mentally retarded for liking a game they dont. They always get really butt hurt and cry about it when ya call them out as well. All of adults by the way from ages 25-40. Their fans also go on the defense and call ya sensitive for not liking edgy jokes. Which is hilarious cuz thats most of my jokes. Problem is mine are funny or apologize if its too far. Theirs are just statements about what they really think that they call jokes as a defense. Also as a mixed person black people dont like me much cuz im too white to them. I was raised by my mother and stepdad who are white. Bio dad is the stereotypical deadbeat black guy who never paid child support but makes 4x more than both my parents did combine. And as part of the lgbt group no longer an active member cuz i dont go to group outings or events. Cuz they really dont like asexual people, trans people or bi people or poc unless they had to be for apperances. Or anyone that calls them out on it. I was the asshole who called them out and told them to do better. Might just be my state thing tho. Midwest is just diet south after all. It was also a decade ago so maybe its better. Anyway obviously im just giving examples of how minorities love discriminating as much as the majority to make themselves feel better. Never at the people that deserve it tho.

I am rather open to others at times, when the topic may come up, that I am a furry. It is not to me anything to hide. And I am not a fanatic about it. It's just an interest of mine, like any other interest. One thing I do tell other though, is furries are not the Borg. We are not all one happy group. We don't all agree or get along. - This can be true of many groups. Take the LGBTQ+. Plenty in it say they want the TQ+ removed, to be it's own group, and to have the LGB be it's own group again. But not all in the LGB agree with that. Mostly those that happen to be both trans and gay. Even those who are part of the trans community don't all get along or agree with each-other. Many who are trans are often enough been called transphobic, by those that don't agree with them, despite being trans. And it can be over anything related to them. One such example would be Buck Angle. Who would call himself a trans-sexual. However, many (but hardly all) within the trans community say you can't use that word trans-sexual anymore, for they see it as insulting to them. But Buck Angle says he will keep using that word, for he identifies as such, and refuses to be bullied by others to not use it for himself anymore. And so is called transphobic by others for that, despite he is not just trans, but a trans man who had full body conformation surgery. Something not all who is trans will do, such as Blare Wight. Even plenty who are trans don't feel trans women should be in women's sports. And are called transphobic by other trans people who feel trans women should be let into women's sports. There is a fare divide among those who are trans on that very subject. Caitlyn Jenner, who was once loved by so many trans people when she came out as trans, being called brave, is now one such person now called transphobic for not supporting trans women being in women's sports. So, that be just another example. - Is no surprise to anyone with observation skills, that the mass of people who are religious don't all agree with each other. Though, to be religious, is not being in a minority. It would, in part, depending on what religion a person follows. Even those who are not religious at all, don't all agree with each other either. As it stands, the numbers of those who are not religious grows in places. In some places, those who are not, greatly outnumber those who are. So is hard to say if those who are not religious is in a minority, and can be counted in this topic. - All people are individuals. No matter what group they my be a part of, be it a big or small group. Is just the way it is. Furries, would be no exception.

Yeah, I kinda struggle with that. I'm growing up in an european country with way and I mean waay below 1% of black population. Last year marked the first time I've ever seen an african-american person in person in my life. I am literally yet to make eye contact with a black person. Slurs as well as the n-word are straight up just an edgy catchphrase for teenagers and the adults couldn't care less. I have a vivid memory of our class talking about different word groups stuff in our language and our teacher offered to let us write any swear words we could think of on the blackboard while she wasn't looking. All fun and games until wouldn't you guess what word appeared there. Even at the time it felt weird that someone felt confident enough to think it was okay to write that there infront of the teacher and even weirder that they were right as the teacher never adressed it. Why so vivid? It happened this week. I'm in high school. Half of us are almost 18. It was the n-word. Native american halloween costumes are still very much a thing. The word for native americans in our language is still Indian (the exact same as a person living in India). And parents teach toddlers "what does an indian say". There's this holiday in January/February where the 'three wise men' go home to home and ask for money for charity and/or for sweets if the three wise men are children. All good, yeah? Well, one of the three wise men is widely regarded as a black man. So one in three kids walks around in blackface. If this country hates anything, it's romani people. They steal shite, their homes are messy, their family trees are ladders, each family has 20 children, they're dense. And there are basically sayings around this stuff. I've had my mom tell me that my room is like at a g-roma's place when it's untidy. Holy fuck, this place is fucked up. That's just what I can name off the top of my head. Homophobia is surprisingly not that rampant because I guess there are more gay people than all people of an ethnic minority put together and I'm not so sure people know what 'transgender' means yet. But the racism is BAD bad. I'm white as hell and though I've been exposed to stuff like american politics from a fairly young age, I still have a really hard time avoiding doing offensive things which you guys probably take for granted. I do my best to learn and I still mess up. The other day a twitch streamer banned me when I got a gartic phone prompt "csgo ragequit" and I drew a kid smashing their keyboard with a text bubble that read "NI-", which was meant to suggest a slur. In my head I was poking fun at how kids resort to slurs when they lose. In the streamer's eyes I was being a racist dirtbag. And at this point I'm just ranting, but holy fuck, is this shite hard. I know I'm not in the right. It sucks to be called racist, but it probably sucks harded to be a victim of racism whether it's intentional or a misunderstanding. I try my best and I'll keep on trying my best. I'm not that much of a furry, but I am lgbt so I am still a minority who (unintentionally) discriminizes against another minority. This was a really helpful video and I'm just glad that at least I don't do this shite on purpose like these people do.

Really gross internalized homophobia here, just because you were harassed by gay men doesn't mean you get to be homophobic, you being a lesbian doesn't excuse it either. Does it suck that the fandom wasn't as well welcoming as it should? Yeah. Does it suck that there's gay men who express disgust towards women and afab people? Yeah, but their misogyny doesn't give you the right to be homophobic. You control the spaces you occupy online, if a group of folks are being dicks, BLOCK them, REPORT it if possible and surround yourself with the content and people you want to see. If you go to an in person meet up and find that you're uncomfortable for whatever reason, Leave! Hit the bricks!! You don't have to stay in places you feel unsafe and you have the right to leave whenever you want. You gotta remember the Block button is rated E for everyone, that you curative your spaces online and that you have a right to feeling safe when interacting with others. You don't have the right to be homophobic because you were harassed, it's that type of behavior that sets us all back as a community, you can call out mistreatment without being a bigot in return.

You can stack that on top of this idea, that a flag meant to represent a group of one immutable characteristic, _isn't inclusive enough_ because it doesn't represent every single constituent subgroup and/or person. Hey friend, great video but I wanted to ask to please not rewrite transexual history to fit an agenda! Marsha P Johnson has never claimed to be a trans woman, and transvestite is synonymous to cross dresser. What she did was defend cross dressers, gay men, lesbian women, and transsexual individuals, because we all existed around the same sphere at that time. I am a transexual man and this stuff is so frustrating, I get the desire to want to be an ally but spreading falsehoods as facts only increases the misinformation around transsexual history. I, a transexual man, am not the same as Marsha P Johnson in that I have a genuine medical condition, but she was an amazing ally! I do not dress up as my non biological sex for entertainment or drag purposes, it is quite offensive to conflate the two concepts.

But I think I feel like that because I just been exposed to a lot more and have seen a lot more over the past 18 years being in this fandom. so far as I know it could have been a thing going on back then even in the 2000s. Great video :3

I wanna critique one thing right off the bat. I just want to politely point out that "furry" is not a minority group. Being a minority implies you didn't choose to be one. People choose to be furries. It's important that this distinction is made. For furry to be a minority, one would have to be born a furry, which is obviously not possible. Don't get me wrong, this fandom has A LOT of minority groups within it. And I'm not saying that furries don't face mockery or targeted hate, because we do. But it's not the same kind of oppression marginalized people face. I'm queer and a furry, so I feel the difference between targeted hate towards my queer identity that I didn't choose and my furry hobby that I willing choose to partake in. It wasn't a conscious decision for me to be queer, it's just the way I am. I can drop furry at any time, but I can't just stop being queer. I love your videos and I'm glad you're covering this concept. Bigotry in the furry community is so often overlooked, racism especially. I hope I'm not coming off too harsh, I just thought it was important to point out the difference between a minority group and a wrongfully stigmatized community of hobbyists.

11:11 I am a poor soul that lives close to the god forbidden Free Fur All con. And I am glad that it is a failed con. I am part of a small majority of Oklahoma Indians within the 5 civilized tribes of Oklahoma who are in the furry fandom. Which some people have been critical on the criticism on the term Red Skin, savage(and yes I have been called that on multiple occasions) and even though we are a small majority( and yes there is stigmatism towards those in the fandom within indigenous peoples within both the US indigenous within the states of Oklahoma, New Mexico [Which is where the Navajo live] and Arizona and those left behind and are living in areas of ancestral importance) which the fact that a lot of us have been targeted by our old stereotypes seen in Old Western films like any John Wayne film. But there are a small majority within indigenous cultures in the fandom as well. And about even less of that culture fit within the LGBTQ. Which is where I fit in. We have been under the category of internalized racism due to the fact that our past as people who lived in camps and ancestral beliefs have been called savages due to our overprotective nature of family.

I feel weird putting furries in like "minorities" like obviously yes being a furry is stigmatised, heavily in some cases. But its not the same as being trans, or being gay or being the target of racism or xenophobia. It is a fandom as the title says, its completely optional to be a furry, its not like you're born a furry its just a fun thing to do. I'm really tired when I wrote this so I don't know if I'm making any sense. But Essentially I think you shouldn't complain too much about being discrimintated against for being a furry, it is just a hobby, albeit a pretty in depth one.

I get you and I agree with "furries aren't an oppressed minority" statement at face value. Here's the thing though: the community is very largely comprised of lgbt+ and/or neurodivergent people, and much of the anti-furry attitude is thinly-veiled queerphobia and ableism. Which makes it quite baffling that there are a significant number of bigots in the community (though it's not so surprising once you realize a lot of those chuds are 4-chan brain-poisoned anons who love to be "ironically cringe" for the joke)

I wanna point out some important nuances with the Amir Locke situation. He was killed by a cop yes, but I think most people would find it to be justified after knowing the details. Yes it's a tragedy and yes it would be better had it not happened, however according to all the sources I can find and the body cam footage, Locke was armed and pointed a gun in the direction of the officers. People need to consider that not every situation where police kill a black individual is one worth fighting for. If you point a gun at the police and get shot, then the police did exactly what they were trained to do and they should be allowed to protect themselves from the threat of violence. The police can't know your intent, but if you have a gun what are they supposed to assume? That you're gonna give them a tip of your hat, a kiss on the cheek, and say "How Do You Do?" It's sad yes but there is likely no justice to be served. In the end Hanneman did the right thing with the information he had and punishing him would be vengeance not justice.

Good luck getting through to these bozos. Theyre so attached to their ideology that anything that happens just has to happen to support their "cause". Ironically its kinda racist to jump to the conclusion that these people get killer strictly for being black. Its indirectly implying that black people are incapable of commiting acts that leads to them getting shot by the police (like any other regular human being) Left wing racism (what I described above) is as harmful as right wing racism.

You sound aloof and apathetic to put down others for having different brain chemistry to you. Do you see depression as "just being soft" too? It's not just someone's words. It's a large collection of people's words and if you're being told directly or not that the way you are is "unnatural" or "disgusting" every single day, it's gunna affect you psychologically. The same way we cringe seeing others get hurt in horror movies, words can hurt, or feel inadequate when broken up with. We're empathetic, emotional creatures.

With that second one, I partly agree with it. I don’t think that illegal immigrants are much more Dangerous than your average American, or legal immigrant. But I do think it is a good idea to own a gun for self protection purposes, as long as you use it safely, and inlet when necessary it can be very helpful and even life saving if it comes down to it. Just please go to a gun safety course beforehand, so you know how to store it, and use it without accidentally shooting it. Mainly just muzzle control, keep ammo and the gun in a different safe, and NEVER EVER put your hand on the trigger UNLESS you are absolutely shure that you should shoot at whatever is and front of you, and that you are ready to shoot after. If you can’t be responsible with a gun, don’t buy one, you are danger to you and everyone else.

I should have said this first but diplomacy is always the first course of action, and a gun is not the second. Think of all the ways you could handle a distressing situation without killing some moms child, humans are more reasonable than you think, and the police response time isn’t that long in most areas.

Also yes, l need you to tell me things like "it's okay not to be political". Thanks for being a good parent. Just by scrolling through the titles and thumbnails of your other videos I'm willing to bet there are moral propositions that you'd shame people for not accepting, and I'm willing to bet you believe politics is of moral importance.
