The new transmitters look sick, I'm particularly pleased to see a high-gain omni antenna which I'm eyeing to replace an internal one in my Zorro. The Nano variant is probably the first Nano ELRS module worth buying as well. I freaking love everything you guys are doing.

Yeah, me too. I converted to all Crossfire right before ELRS came out. Crossfire is rock solid reliable! Never had a single fail safe. Never had a single even minor issue with anything at all!!! 💯 With FrSky, I had at least one failsafe with every session of flying! The difference is night and day. But, ELRS built into AIO whoop FC's is very interesting! 👍 Especially the none SPI ones. Not because Crossfire receivers are so heavy, they only weigh 0.7g, it's the antenna that's where the whole benefit really lies. Putting a crossfire antenna is doable on an 85mm whoop. Done it, without the immortal T antenna and just used the wire that comes with the $25 receivers. But, smaller 75mm or 65mm whoops is where ELRS really would shine for me! Having that little built in tower antenna is sweet! Looks like I'll be eventually getting a module for the back of my radio and have to trade out the Crossfire module for the ELRS one when flying 65 & 75mm builds. I'm all about getting whoops as lightweight as possible and ELRS is perfect for that! 🪶😎🤘

Great review! The Ranger looks to be a really nice, feature packed TX module, but likely more than I'd ever need. I have one of the early HM ES24TX modules and it has never let me down, zero fail safes. If I was in the market for a TX module I think I'd go for the RM Micro + 3 RX combo deal for $59, that's a bargain right there. Love my ELRS and Radiomaster TX16S, kudos to Radiomaster for supporting ELRS!

Impressive review. I'm tempted to switch. I'm still loving my Crossfire... I'm old. Elrs had a checkered start in my eyes. But eventually it has become the top go to rx / tx links out there. I start flying years ago. Found that CF was so easy and reliable, why switch. I have so much CF crap. Most still working great I might add. The new Ranger is Impressive. I really like that huge black brick on the back for some reason. Leds?, motion sensor?, Don't know... Did I mention I'm old?

It would be pretty informative to know the oscillator frequency deviation of these TX modules. Could you measure the freq. deviation using some ELRS receivers from different vendors ? Manufacturing quality (e.g. frq. deviation) may have a massive influence on the range and compatibility.
@MadRC
@MadRC 2 жыл бұрын
These have been tested by the dev team and they are spot on.
@typxxilps
@typxxilps 2 жыл бұрын
@@MadRC Yes, and no, cause this would only mean that those units send to the dev team delivered spot on but for whatever reason prodution units could later be different. So I would prefer if you could check that (easily) cause you are independent and the subscribers later could get in touch with you once they face issues with their units. I have no clue how much work that might be but I guess you have touched this subject before in a video about the issues of some vendors and the implications of the different receiver and tx combinations (different vendors) that could cause issues. Not sure but somehow I can remember a chart I had thought had been from you about the different deviations. I do not doubt that the ELRS receiver will work but I can remember that at some time they also had production issues cause we had bought 16 x of the TX16S versions in the past and 1 batch of 2 had production issues that had been solved but only after a loss of a plane / crash. It had been supported and fixed by Radiomaster.

The configurable button colors are pretty cool visual status indicators at a glance such as wattage, etc, looks like the future gold standard for full-size ELRS module. For the nano sized the HappyModel Slim PRO is very similar if these radiomasters are stripped down feature-wise and are also too made of solid cnc.

I am hoping you have contacts with Radiomaster and can give them some feedback on this module. The problem is with the pins on the adapters. I couldn't see them well enough when I push the adapter in place and can run the risk of bending the pin when the adapter is not pushed in perfectly straight. That can ruin my day. Fortunately I do have some experience and managed not to force the issue. I still wound up with some minor tweaks in two pins. Otherwise the module is great and works as advertised. A bit heavy for the Zorro though.

So for $100, you are getting a ton of cool features - BUT - for $119, you get those features + 2 RP1 RX's and 2 T type antenna - or 1 RP2 RX w/onboard antenna. Not a bad deal! I would liked to have seen on more emphasis on why we would need a 1W receiver. More power = better performance? That was not really addressed up front. I am asking as a noob. I get a lot of RF interference in my area so will boosting the power help? Is this quantifiable and would like to see examples if so - I am sure this is a great product but I don’t fully understand how it is better from what I already have - mine goes to 500w - a betafpv nano.

I bought one of these and I am not sure yet what to think. I am a new pilot. Trying to use this mod on my FrSky X18SE. I cannot get this to mount with the "Handle"/900mhz antenna. The vids I watched on this before I ordered, shows a X20 with this module. He took off the 900 Antenna/handle. I didnt know the handle would have to be on to use the antenna. This was my fault for not understanding. I love the lights and possibilities and want the tech to work for me. Is there a way to buy a different antenna, ditch the handle style integrated antenna or can I maybe use some very stratigic adapters for the module antenna mount to direct the antenna away from the handle on the transmitter? I have the 900HANDLE/antenna(on transmitter controller) and module(the ranger) mounted, but do not have room to screw the antenna on the module. Ahhh. HELP.

The only issue might be european customs regarding the mandatory first listen thing ELRS has not been supported in the past and needed a certification for. I mention this cause I had once ordered an frsky transmitter which was in deed for US and EU which I was not aware of and that one was rejected by the customs and went back the full way to china. I do not know how you get yours nor if the EU regulations are still relevant for the UK but I guess cause I had seen a review from the UK touching this particular topic a year ago or so for elrs which back then was no issue as it was send as kit you had to solder. Found it: the LBT version would be needed, listen before talk and also Pavel mention the requirements for these modules like CE marks and so on.

Thanks for the in depth review. Looks interesting indeed. One thing worries me though. You measure 500mW when 500mW power is set but that should not be the case for a digital data link. The ImmersionRC RF Power meter cannot measure peaks bit average power only. If you measure any other RC link, no matter if that is Ghost, Crossfire, Frsky or R9, you will only get about 30-50% of the set power level shown on the RF meter as they have a duty cycle of under 50%. If you measure that high, this means it has a duty cycle of either 100% or it transmits at much higher power than actually set on each packet. if it is the first option, then this thing will basically be a massive jammer for other RC links. This should not be allowed at all!

@terminsane
@terminsane 2 жыл бұрын
The built-in modules are limited to 250mw due to internal power design of the circuitboard. The externals can be powered via external battery with their tx connectors, and pump out the full 1w Imo the best setup is a multiprotocol internal, and a full power external for your primary link system. Then your radio is like a swiss army knife that can fly everything.

wasnt point of elrs that it could be a long range system like crossfire or a racing system like tracer or ghost at a price point that was representative of the open source nature of its development. Hiya Thomas, have a look at the micro or nano version as an alternative to the full size module. Only $39.99! Or grab the combo set with a module and 3 receivers for $59.99. Thats a good deal imho 😀

What I see that this is perhaps better quality than BetaFPV and Happymodel so may justify a higher price point - also a lot of features. I agree I am not sure it was explined if this gives you better performance, however. I am not hearing anything in the video that says you get a rock solid link by having higher power.

@@tomsop Ive been using elrs since v0.3 and have tried a few of the HM and betafpv modules. I also use rx from about a dozen different vendors and to be honest ive never had a problem in terms of hardware quality or setup. I like that theres a hardware option to suit a budget and rx amost tailored to specific craft or flying type. the RM modules at around $40 are on point. but anything over this is just unnecessary. I use a 1w betafpv module as my daily and have it set to 100me 99% of the time. 1w is overkill, but nice to have in very limited circumstances. 2w wont double the range or penetration compared to 1w. Pushing technology forward is great. its how things progress. but this module doesnt do much for me.

Jesus what an amazing idea! Why haven't anyone else though of that before? The buttons and display on the BACK OF THE RADIO that is. What absolute geniuses work at Radiomaster, I'm amazed.. Useless bling; just buy es24tx pro (also 1W, what a coincidence!) and save yourself some money..

what's the point of a 1w (capable to 2w) elrs tx? you get range for days on 100mw....plus wasn't the whole point of elrs to provide a nice and cheap alternative to crossfire, ghost etc...? $100 isn't cheap lol.

"Range for days on 100mw" i see this claim constantly but my 250mw unit can barely make it to the end of the road. 100mw might be great for an open park but once you get some leaves sticking out in its path you're just gonna drop out of the sky

@@terminsane have you tried a different tx or RX? I’ve 6 quads all running Elrs on various flavours of RX, and I’ve 2 radios with HM TXs both on 100mw and I’ve had zero issues with range in any environment I’ve flown in. Used to failsafe regularly on FrSky XM+ and I’m yet to failsafe on elrs

I don't understand why this isnt included in the internal ELRS version instead. It's just a waste of money if for what ever reason you want to go 1w and you can't cause you have to buy the module which is another 100+ so you end up spending about 350.00 dollars and that's not with the AG01 gimbals which is another 150.00 so you could end up spending up to 650 for this receiver and the worst part of it all is the devs probably don't get a cut.

The Boxer does have 1W in but it’s not quite the same as the large Ranger. That’s got a bigger PA that can do 2W but I do suspect we will see all the new radios have 1W

But isn't it too big? Why get this when you can just get a smaller cheaper one? And it's not as bulky

I think the community as a whole is fed up with companies sending out review units and EVT/DVT/PVT samples to 'youtubers' months before they have any manufacturing capacity on the line built up. There's no units to be had anywhere until mid-March.

Set radio down. Toss model using Autolaunch. Tx module goes into low power mode. Model goes into failsafe. Looks like a cool module that I'd buy if I didn't already have ELRS TX modules, but the features seem gimicky. Usually, when I set my radio down, I shut it off. Programmable RGB buttons? Meh. Cool, but not paying extra for it.

First of all as I stressed several times It will not go into low power mode when armed. Secondly even if it did your model would have to have got at least a few km before it even started to be a concern. I’m not sure how slow the walk back to the Tx is but I don’t think it’s an issue.
