What do you think of the new RadioMaster TX16S? TX16S or Jumper T18? Is FrSky even an option anymore or did they make themselves obsolete? Let me know in the comments below and make sure to check out the TMac FPV site at tmacfpv.com ! 👍

@RJ Deering main difference between the Crossfire Lite (one I have) and Crossfire Micro V2 (that I'm aware of) us the Lite has a max power of 2 watts and the Micro V2 has a max power of 250mw (which is enough for about 95% of FPV Pilots). I fly my Lite with only 100mw most of the time!

Just upgraded to this TX16s after getting fed up with taking my Jumper T16 apart to sort the ribbon cables out. I have had to do it six times in the last six months, so this will be a great relief from that. I'm impressed so far with this TX. The speaker isn't as clear as my Jumper TX but seems a bit louder. I've transferred all my models from the Jumper into this one along with all the voice files (they were better in the Jumper) and my images. I save a copy of the original files on my laptop and then delete all the ones I don't need like all the other languages and images, before replacing them with just the ones I need. I'm not sure why you need to hold the trims in and turn on the TX, on both the Radiomaster and the Jumper I just plug the USB into the laptop and it gives me the option of joystick mode or SD card on the screen. I just select SD and everything is there on the laptop. Maybe mine is a different version or something. It all worked perfectly in OpenTX. I actually think the Radiomaster doesn't feel as good quality as the Jumper when held in my hands, the sticks on the Jumper feel much slicker as do the switches, plus the speaker is much better quality on the Jumper. But, given the problems I've had with the ribbon cables on the Jumper, the Radiomaster wins. Of course, this is comparing the Radiomaster to the Jumper T16 Pro, but the newer Jumper T18 might be a different story. As long as the Radiomaster keeps working reliably it gets the thumbs up👍

Hi TMac, thank you for this clear video and your honest take on this Radio Master TX 16S radio. I am currently in the process of upgrading from my Futaba 18sz😳 my problem came with ability (or inability) to fly fixed wing FPV long range. Must decide between FS Paladin PL18 ( easier to set up etc and quality🧐 ) and the Radio Master TX 16s max with cross fire, but I am very uncertain about my ability to learn Open Tx🤓. Just subscribed as I feel you deserve more subs🤗regards from SA

@TMacFPV 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Percy, great to hear from you! welcome aboard your TMac FPV Team! Regarding learning OpenTX, I am positive without a doubt, you CAN learn it. Only question is, do you WANT to. OpenTX gives you the flexibility to basically program your transmitter to do whatever you can imagine. You're not "locked in" to one set of switches performing one specific function, etc. Its all up to you how you want to set it up. Here's a "starter video" on OpenTX. The major benefit of this video is understanding the "Concept" of OpenTX and how information flows within it. Once you understand the concept, it makes more sense and you'll better understand the "why" behind what to implement whatever you want. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqbcY4hmacSKfMU The Tx16S with Crossfire I trust completely. I do not fly fixed wings, however, I fly periodically over a large lake near where I reside without hesitation (you can see some of this in a few of my videos). I have seen others who DO fly fixed wings (on TX16 Facebook Groups) say they too trust the transmitter with their expensive models. Not trying to talk you into anything. Just letting you know my experience with the TX16S and what I've heard/seen other fixed wing flyers say

@@TMacFPV Hi TMac. Much appreciated. A major part of our fantastic hobby is the ability to get answers on important issues and questions (much like the after-sales service in any industry, adding great value OR the opposite to what might be a great product.) The impression so far regarding Radio Master is their willingness to “hear” and respond to their market and the advice from the experts using their product coupled with the willingness that experienced guys like you (and many others on KZbin) have to share the hard-earned information with guys like me, saving precious time and the cost of faulting during the learning curve. Great de-mistification of a fantastic radio . Thank you for your response. My hat’s off to you. 🙇🏼‍♂️🙇🏼‍♂️

Looks great. I love my old X9D still, despite it's bugs with Crossfire's LUA scripts (sometimes it freezes). This is probably the best review on these coloured screen Opentx Radios and this Radiomaster seems to be the best of them all. It is cheap to boot too, I think I paid $100 over it's price for my Taranis a few years ago. It's a compelling case for an upgrade. I bet I could find another use for the old radio. Wanna buy one? Cheers, my friend! Love your channel. Keep'em coming and take care.

Great video! My tx16s should be here in a few days. Thanks for the video. I'm assuming transferring the telemetry page (so I can see number of satellites the model has) won't be much of an issue. One suggestion: when you rename your files, instead of renaming splash.png to OLD_splash.png, rename it splash_OLD.png. That way they show up together alphabetically and you don't have to look around for them. Just a thought. Great video as always!

@@TMacFPV not referring to custom images. You can have something like 7 screens, all fully customisable with widgets (as you noted). I thought the “tele” button referred to “telemetry” but it refers to the screens. I got the hang of it by trial and error but it was a bit tricky! TMac, Thank you very much for your video support. Question if I may, I order one week from now at Banggood the black version of the Radiomaster TX 16S. TX16S Max upgrades include lower sitting gimbals (ergonomically better-easier reach), along with "switches & roller upgrades, and improved plastics, pots and sliders. All "new release" TX16S come with second speaker now (so I don't know if the one you're about to order is from the newer batches or if its one that's been in stock from the previous batches with only one speaker--you'd have to ask the vendor). The Tx16S and TX16S Max operate the same

This was not an issue at all since calibrating worked great, however, after using the radio with a Flight Sim, the Sim told me that Channel 4 is off center??? Is there a way to center the stick using some "Gimbal Adjustments" in the inside??? Thanks.
@TMacFPV

New one for me. Might try adjusting yaw tension spring. If you turn the transmitter over so you're looking at its back and remove the rubber grip which will then be on the right-had side you're looking at, you should see a "tension screw" through one of the holes on the upper right. That should be the "yaw tension" screw. Adjust it to the right for more tension (I believe) and left for less tension. If that doesn't work, may need to realign gimbal by loosening, realigning, and tightening back.
@fc1133

@@TMacFPV I tried the tension screw, didn't work. I might try the other thing you suggested. I am waiting to hear back from the seller though. If I can sent it back, I will. On the TX16S Max (which has slightly recessed gimbals compared with other versions of the TX16S), the tops of the Grand Lotus stick ends , at full deflection, just barely touch the circular cut outs of the transmitter face plate at each corner. This does not appear to affect full stick deflection (it happens simultaneously with full stick deflection). Hope this helps

@@TMacFPV yes it does, I thought that the spacers that came with the cnc kit were thicker than the ones that came with the Tx16s max but I had already installed them so it was too late to check. I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're asking me if I've had any issues with the TX16S reading SD cards, I have not. Of course, I immediately swap out any of the SD cards that come with my transmitter(s) since usually they do cause issues. I normally get a SanDisk SD card off of Amazon (32gb or less), format in Fat32, on my computer and insert into transmitter. If you're planning to go this route, please make sure you understand what is required for OpenTX backup of models, upgrading firmware, etc. If you've had an X9D for 4 years, you've probably already got this stuff down, right?

Hey Tom! I've got a short Playlist of a few videos on TBS Crossfire I'll link below. The videos use the Jumper T16 but it's exactly the same with the RadioMaster TX16S. TBS Crossfire is a 900mhz band system instead of the usual 2.4 GHz system. This 900mhz band allows for much, much further range (at the same power) than 2.4ghz. It also penetrates objects much better so you can fly through and around objects (trees, buildings, etc) without losing signal. TBS Crossfire control link is also "self-healing." The TBS Crossfire Micro V2 module just came out and is your best deal and you can get this optional module from various hobby shops like here: pyrodrone.com/products/tbs-crossfire-micro-tx-v2 . Once you have this optional module, you will need to use Crossfire receivers. I use the Crossfire Nano and there's also the Crossfire Nano diversity. They are a bit more expensive than your "normal" receivers but in my opinion, well worth the little extra cost for the peace of mind (never have to worry about signal loss again and telemetry is "automatic." Let me know if I can help further. Here's the Playlist link kzbin.info/aero/PLKAiYAaTdvmo2pW-JWLDRjJ3Pohjis0jA

Hey Styles Extraordinaire! Not exactly sure what yo mean by "flashingthe SD card," however, I'd recommend you take a look at the video titled "Jumper T16 OpenTX Firmware Update" in this Playlist of OpenTX videos kzbin.info/aero/PLKAiYAaTdvmqxtSKfP-2_QQlS_fd6h2YU . It will help. Although that video (and most of the Playlist) uses the Jumper T16 to explain OpenTX, OpenTX is eactly the same on the RadioMaster TX16S (or any other transmitter using OpenTX operating system firmware)! let me know if you have further questions after going through the stuff. Fly fearlessly friend!👍

Hey HelioGenesis-HS! The TX16S supports the R9M module so it should work fine with the R9M module. I'd recommend the Crossfire Micro TX V2 module over the R9M (unless you already have the R9M module). Potentiometer gimbals should still last you a good long while 👍

Where did you learn that "bootloader mode" trick? There's nothing in the manual about that at all!
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom!😃Honestly, its been a few years so I don't remember exactly where I learned it from. However, most likely similar to how you just learned it. Its the same for any transmitter running OpenTX operating system firmware. Now, I do my best to pass on what I have learned through experience what's worked for me to others. I do that through videos like this one and the Fast Track FPV Course ("rookie-friendly intro to FPV quads course). I will provide you with two sources of info you might find useful. First, is OpenTX University. This link has info on how to enter bootloader mode. open-txu.org/home/undergraduate-courses/fund-of-opentx/part-3-understanding-boot-loaders/ The second loink you may find useful is my Playlist on OpenTX, specifically starting with OpenTX Basics. Although most videos in this series were done with the Jumper T16, they all apply to teh RadioMaster TX16S since, as mentioned, above, OpenTX is the same for any transmitter using it. Hey Big Willie! Not sure what the issue could be. what did you do with the old "background" file? Did yo just overwrite it with the same name, did you delete it, or did you save the old background file as another name somewhere? Did you save the new file with the name "background" ? Only thing I can think of at this point is the radio is confused as to what file actually is the "background" image file. Are you using the original SD card? if so, you might want to try another one formatted as Fat32 (after you have saved everything from current/old SD card) per this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIPRaoiEqs-mg6s That's all I canthink of for now.

Anyway I had a Flysky FS-i6X Transmitter($50.00), I was doing an Antenna mod on it, while removing the old antenna cables from the U.FL base cups(2), one of the Gold Plated base cups came off in the antenna lead connector..! I couldn't repair it, so I ordered the RM TX16S Radio....! I couldn't find any locally, all were coming china, I said, NO WAY..! So it cost me a few more Dollars($149.99) and got here quicker...! what is the range ?
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Norman! The range depends on many factors some of which are: 1. if you are using the 2.4 Ghz band of the radio or are you using the 900 MHz TBS Crossfire module "plug-in" capability (900 MHz has much further range capability), 2. what receiving antenna yo have mounted on your RC aircraft and how it/they are mounted, 3. any RF interference in the area you'll be flying, and 4. the actual landscape you'll be flying over/through (will you be flying over a flat open field or will you be flying through trees, doing mountain diving, etc.? Now, having said all of that, this radio transmission the 2.4 Ghz band at the same legal power as all other hobby-grade transmitters (100mW). Using that 2.4 Ghz band at that transmission power level with a "normal" 2.4 Ghz ACCST protocol diversity receiver on your RC aircraft, you can expect a range (flying an open field) of approximately 1.5 - 2.5 kilometers. If you use the Crossfire module system with this transmitter, you can fly (if legal in your area of the world) many miles

The pop out hole in the case doesn't make any sense........ I'm assuming that the crossfire is powered when it's plugged into to the module bay and the transmitter is turned on..... So what's the point??? When using multi protocol and it's not crossfire let's say a flysky whoop then the crossfire doesn't turn on. Only when it's selected for the model. If running in high power then an extra battery is needed so as not to drain the transmitter battery..... This method puts a hole in the case, flattens the transmitter battery just as quick and requires the extra job of plug-in and unplugging it! What a terrible idea.
