Still a wonderful place to go,lots of things to see even though lots of it has gone but there is a lovely centre with lovely people in it,go grab a coffee and look in memory booth its all good ❤

Used to live in Tangmere Crescent just over the road in the airfield estate and used to walk round the airfield frequently. All houses now. Brilliant video lads.

My father was in the RAF during WW2 and when we moved to Hainault in the 1950’s we went to the fantastic Hornchurch air shows. Spitfires and Lancasters were among the many classic aircraft that would delight the crowds that lined the runways. Happy days😅

my mother and father worked there. It was my playground after the war. They built an estate on most of it.

@@jager896 sorry no ,we moved to Barking when I was 8 years old there was a boy who’s name i remember was Paterson lived just a few doors up the road and a boy who lived in the shop at the top of the road (gardens).my brother s and I played a lot at the sand pits as well . some good times ,remember the rag and bone lady on her horse and cart she live in the next st she bought your old comics for a few penny’s .funny what you remember

Just been here today and took a gentle stroll around. Then discovered your video on it? Going to have to go back now. We did discover the the buildings on the site of the old St George hospital, were originally part of the airfield as well. Great stuff guys.

Glad to hear, ah we thought the St George’s Hospital buildings had all been demolished. There has also been a heritage centre open since which looks great. Maybe a return is needed

there's also a under a ground bunker facing the first lake close to the path we use to play in as a kids..The time team didn't find it, but I can still picture it.

I used to live a couple of blocks away in 1967, i played there all the time, I used to run through the air raid shelters that are blocked off now, also that pillbox with no entry they had tunnels running underneath the airfield to access them

They were supposed to build a runway there as a memorial there on the existing country park..Think it was a con just to make another rubbish dump prior to that. Left the housing estate there in 2008 so do not know the outcome.
