I loved this game. It really was an absolute blast. Vehicle progression was done well too. You only have one car you upgrade, but then you get a mech to use if you want, a flying vehicle, and at the end of the story quests basically a tank.

Going all out in this game would just create bigger open world with more pointless content aka far cry. The problem is both studio didnt really have a vision what this game should be. A single director at id: Tim Willits pitched it to Bethesda after playing Just Cause and threw it at Avalanche's lap. Avalanche was... Avalanche so they made a mediocre repetitive by the number open world like they have always been doing.

Open World Arena FPS was an unexpected addition to the iD lineup. At the same time, it is great at what it sets out to do. Give you a world to go around fighting enemies in using nice guns and beefy super powers. Sadly the world Rage 1 set out to create was not fully realized by either title. I will critique one thing super heavily (aside from the graphical effects capable of causing headaches, and the world/environmental design being second rate at best in some places). Some of the guns feel to have no proper place in the arsenal, nor the enemy designs to force me into using enough of the arsenal. The shotgun and Rocket Launcher could be the only guns you'll end up using for much of the game. This criticism can be quashed when I remember that the nano powers are fucking AWESOME
