There is a two seagulls one train slap in this video :D remember to comment with a Seagull Emoji when you find it. Hehehehe. Going through the old tunnel again after being closed for such a long time was weird. The difference between them is pretty insane.

Does this mean that there were two seagulls killed by a train in this video? Or have I misunderstood? I really look forward to your videos, saw you once on a documentary too, but if I did understand properly than I wouldn't think a :D is appropriate, especially for the seagulls. I won't watch or like in case this is the case.

@@RailCowGirl I've always been interested in electricity, so my attention tends to wander to the catenary. :) Near as I can tell, there are seven styles of catenary poles on the Norway rail system (wood, concrete, three types of lattice, Gardermoen Line, and now I-beam). In the tunnels, I see three different styles of support fixtures, then on the Oslo end of the line, there are the solid bus-bar catenaries in the tunnel there.

Just finished watching. This one is going on my RailCowGirl night video playlist. Nice to see the Bergenline again. Myrdal, the lights of Voss, the rebels were alerted to your presence at Finse/Hoth. The old Ulriken tunnel and refurbished Arna looks nice too. The freightyard in Bergen is really cool now. I didn't catch the seagulls. I was too caught up in nostalgia and anticipation.

Glad to see your back! Looking forward to seeing more trips across Norway. Question; have you ever considered besides shooting the rails ahead but to also to shoot out the side as your travelling forward? I often catch myself glancing to the edge of my iPad screen to see scenery on the sides as your train travels over bridges through valleys along rivers with waterfalls. It maybe too much trouble editing what to choose, split screens, etc. Thanks for all the trips you’ve taken me on from a few thousand miles away.

Thank you. I have several videos where I've included the side view. Most of the sidewindows are tinted on newer engines and therefore it will be kind of hard to film out of them. It also takes more time to set up multiple cameras, and I can not delay the train for setting them up. I have done several videos with side views, and here is one of them kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIvcnIOajdqImaM I have also done this on several of my videos from the Flåm Railway :)

This weekend is fun when it comes to trains... * Setesdalsbanen released a video of the 130 year old number 2 running again. * That 130 year old locomotive is the only one available for hauling trains east of Kristiansand and west of Nordagutu * RailCowGirl release another long driver's eye view of The Bergen Line * And in Germany the European Tram Driver's Championship is held

That overhead light is kind of wild. You know - it would be cool if you narrated your trip map up front or told us about your route in that opening scene sometime. Been a while since I heard you talk to us. Just saying :). Looked like a beautiful night for for a train ride

49:11 Could that be the comet? It's the exact shape of a comet tail - it even has a little bulb at the correct end. Nah... the sky is still way too bright - it has to be a contrail that just resembles a comet. Just stunned by the vast extent of all the tunnels. Amazing - - how did they ever find the time - - the money?? Wow.

Love your videos. Do you think you could give an overview of the signalling systems on your route such as aspects and meanings, as well as how you have to respond to them? I've always been interested in the technological side of things and it would be educational to see how a real train driver reads signs and signals on the route.

Because of your videos i am planning to come over from Australia to Norway during the winter to do the RailCowGirl Bergen tour. I need to see this for myself. What places along the line in your opinion are the ultimate must stops. Places where i can spend a while on the train then get off spend a day or so exploring the area then get back on and continue along. I was going to fly into Oslo spend some time there and then jump on the train and leave Norway from Bergen.
@RailCowGirl

I would highly suggest you looking into "Norway in a nutshell", where you take the train from Oslo To Bergen. Bergen to Myrdal, Flåm Railway From Myrdal to Flåm and then the boat to Gudvangen to experience the viking settlement before heading back to Voss with Buss and back to Bergen. :)

😃Yess! A new brilliant video. Great stuff, thanks alot.👍 Btw, the Rc3 locos were made for fast passenger services (->160kmh). Has a transmission gear conversion been done to this unit to make it more suitable for freight services? Just curious.
@RailCowGirl

@@49a463 yes, a transmission conversion has been made on some, one is even weighted down. But, you can really feel it on the rest of the fleet that they’re not really made to haul freight

Wonderful video as always. Though, this locomotive has some high pitched noise. At about 12.3 kHz, it is quite annoying. (there is another tone at 16.8 kHz, but few can hear that high.) I ponder what it could be, I doubt it is part of the drive train since it doesn't change pitch proportional to the train's speed, something one usually sees from inverters/motor-drivers. So it is likely something else. I ponder if it might be a compressor given that it is very audible at 2:35:50 until what I suspect is the compressor doing the classical "relief" at the end of its cycle and the high pitched sound rapidly diminishes after.
@RailCowGirl
@RailCowGirl 4 күн бұрын
Yep, it is a very noisy machine with the old compressors. I always use ear protection on these
@Unknownety
@Unknownety 4 күн бұрын
@@RailCowGirl That sounds horrible. Could really need some sound dampening on those. High pitched sounds are usually somewhat easy to quench with only 3-5 cm of insulation. (rock wool typically does this fairly well.) Likely won't make it silent, but should dampen it a lot for fairly minimal cost. I am surprised the train operator hasn't done something about it.
@RailCowGirl
@RailCowGirl 4 күн бұрын
@@Unknownety there isn’t any space for that. The compressor needs to be changed.

🐦🐦 3:16:10 What I am amazed with is no chatting on the radio at all. Even during day shifts. Is it GSM that provides direct contact with given train? Or do you cut them for the video like during shunting in Bergen? Because still on our state railways we use regular VHF radio, so you have to focus to catch your train number in that constant yapping. Especially on large stations, where many trains depart. Yet here - total silence and calmness. With these silent locomotives I believe you can be way less tired after 3,5h drive and get ready for another.
@RailCowGirl

we do not use open communications in Europe, we use GSM-R. So yes, GSM with rail functionality.
