I love seeing this footage from the 80's; Reminds me of watching trains when I was a kid!

I NEVER get tired of the narration! Brings back lots of fond memories. I hired out on the Southern Railway in early ‘79 at Linwood, NC (Spencer Yard) and well remember when those Susky units as well as occasional D&H and CP started appearing at Linwood. If memory serves correct they came in on 11R which was designated ALSR (Allentown-Spencer) on Conrail. They went back north on 12R, SRAL on Conrail. Great times indeed! In 2020 my nerves could take no more as the PSR farce was decimating the company right in front of my eyes, and I called it quits. Linwood was completely closed in the spring of 2020 and stayed that way for a couple years, but recently a child’s portion of activity has resumed though nothing like before!

I'm gonna guess the East Penn local almost always did shove moves with a caboose. Such amazing sights of yesteryear. I'm content with the action today on the Reading line but clearly you got a lot more better action in the CR age and maybe even better in the anthracite road years.

The increase in traffic had a lot to do with the abandonment of the previously electrified PRR low grade freight lines coming out of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia & Thorndale branch and the Atglen and Susquehanna branch (Enola low grade).
