He was incredible, live, although this is not live. It seems like a recording that was made just before the official release. Seems that he cleaned up the vocals, and took that reverb off, before releasing it. Amazing song. lyrics are kinda funny. A Magic Carpet ride, a genie, maybe more, LOL. Ritchie's solo is masterful.

. Because heavy metal was not invented, Ronnie loved to listen to opera as a child and was a fan of Mario Lanza. “I couldn’t believe his incredible voice,” he told USA Today. “I wanted to use that aspect of vocalisation in the rock’n’roll context. I guess that’s the connection people see between my operatic style and music as heavy as possible. A quote from Kerrang .com, 18 things you didnt know about RJD

Ronnie grew up as an Italian singing Opera in his home. He said that is where he learned to sing, diaphragm, breathing. It set his course. If not for that and his practice on New York City's roads yelling F-You A Hole! Italians! Him and Vinnie, both heh. Love them .I'm going to hear Vinnie, Vivian Campbell, Andrew Freeman, Phil Sousan in Columbus Ohio, Aug 21,2021. Yeah!

Huge brainfart and tbh it doesnt worth it to listen at all. The solo isnt even a gates of babylon solo anymore. İt is completely different. İt has no soul. Because he just shreds the shit out of the solo all the time. Maybe it could be a solo of its own for a complete different song. But for gates of babylon it was a shitty solo and completely kills the song with its lack of soul.

Such a great song. Ronnie James Dio’s vocals are forever magical. The thing I most enjoy about this clip is that the cameramen and video editors are showing everyone in the band some love. All too often, every bit of the focus is put on Blackmore, Dio, and Powell, and while they are certainly the most famous, every member is important to the success of the band. It’s nice to see several bits of footage of Bob Daisley and David Stone. This lineup was at the top of their game during the 1977 Munich concert. I’ve watched it many times, and it’s magnificent.

This masterpiece gives me shivers each time I listen to it! Out of this planet! Dio and Blackmore, honey and butter, what a combination! Blackmore's solo ! A babylonian four thousands years old melody reincarnated in the 20th century! Those dives and quarter tones on a half tones instrument, a genius of devilish music!!!

Journey Into Beard - I agree that Dio was uniquely incredible, but we all know that Heaven & Hell is really Black Sabbath MK 2, so it’s honestly three classic bands. (I love Elf, but they can’t rightly be considered a classic band, as they’re too unknown).

"The devil is me and I'm holding the key to the gates of sweet hell Babylon." I was very privileged to see Rainbow's tour of the US when this album emerged on the world stage. They came to Memphis and performed at the North Auditorium in the late 70s. You'll never believe who opened for them; Montrose and Van Halen. One of the best concerts I've ever been to out of the 100 I attended over 20 years.
