Very cute. Safety tip: When you feed a carrot, apple or whatever to a horse or donkey, always offer it on a flat hand to avoid injury to fingers. Also, take care when removing soil at the base of a rock wall that you aren't making it unstable, potentially causing a collapse.

I've been watching Martijn Doolaard for weeks; he would tell you the reason the stones are placed vertically in the room that previously held cows is so their urine would run down between the stones instead of puddling on flat surface. You could gain a motherload of information from watching his videos as he is a Master at both redoing the stone houses and making amazing videos. Good luck with your amazing adventure!

I agree-- Martijn has 40 episodes following his renovation. He's really good at it..

I think Martijn would agree he is not a master just working his way through the interesting challenges old stone houses offer. Egidio who lives at the bottom of our lane is over 90 years old, a Muratore e Scalpellino who only works with Stone building all his life. He says every stone building is another puzzle I am lucky to master each one, ready to be a student for the next. This schtick helps the old boy charge more :-) but he sure does beautiful work.

Such a beautiful place. "Daddy can we have another donkey?". The joy of discovering a place tucked away from the frenzy of city life. Heather's joy knows no bounds as she soaks in the beauty, serenity and the sweet silence of this place, totally lost in wonder. The way the children pitch in, their boundless energy , as they help their parents to make the place livable is so endearing. Your happiness is pure, as you give thanks to God for having given you such a beautiful home. In 2 years or 3 years...you will surely make it a gorgeous home. May you always be happy here.

@@RaisingVoyagers If it's not asking too much of you, could you please make a video , recording your daughters conversations, observations , moments of discovery (worms,) and capture on film, their lovely world of make believe.."these are for the fairies" Most children today , live in a dead world of texting and video games...never experiencing the matchless joy of discovering nature's beautiful creations. They have never known a sense of wonder, the magic moments that nature provides generously, and with it observing closely seasonal changes and shifting light, which is so necessary to feel truly alive. Stifling pressures and comparisons spawned by a a consumerist society is all that they know and breathe. Alexa and Chloe are a breath of fresh air. I love watching their little hands busy with rural activities..." We must have collars so that their names don't get mixed up""Daddy this side of the flower is fuzzy! When I was stationed in Virginia, the ships I was on would stop over in Naples. I have been there many many times and have a few times left on the train and traveled throughout Italy and Europe itself when I had the time to do that. Italy is like the States where the North is quite different in living than in the South of Italy. I will continue to watch you and your family on your fantastic adventure, one that none of youe will ever forget. family. Bless you, Mike.

The floor of your "stalla" or stable / summer house is amazing. I live in Italy and I can tell you that the man/men who built it hundreds of years ago really worked hard to make that a forever and beautiful stone floor. Congratulations on your purchase. Perfect land for goats. There is a saying here, "piano, piano" which basically means, (go) slowly, slowly. Italy has its own pace. So get into that groove and everything will be less stressful. What an exciting adventure, but at the same time; what an extreme bulk of work to be done. Wishing you every succes and that your enthusiasm won't dampen. Please get advice from local people who know this type of buildings and how to best make them safe and comfortable to live in the year round. In general these mountain cottages were only lived in during summer when they brought sheep and goats to graze on the terraces and work on summer crops. Check how stable the wall is built into the slope. What about damp issues on that wall and the walls in general? Make a good plan while keeping in mind that this is Italy and things go much slower and different.

Hi, just found you. Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here. Love families embracing a different life choice in any way. Golly, you've got some happy and adventurous kids there. I've followed USA homesteaders but I am also fascinated by French or Italian 'homesteading '.Love all things Mediterranean....love history...preservation. Buildings and walls are living and vibrant too. We have a short history in terms of colonisation. 1936. But our indigenous people were there long before. They were territorial but nomadic. South Australia is a Mediterranean climate. I can only dream of this lifestyle on my 1/2 acre block in a subdivision. But I have worked towards a food forest garden, chickens and lots of pergolas dripping with grape vines and kiwi fruit vines. By the way, I am 70 years old and a Grannie of 9 grandies so far. I praise God for people like you. Xxx Out of my 6 sons, only 1 has embraced an off grid lifestyle, but boy, is he doing it well.

I wouldn’t dig up the plants next to the rock walls as they help to stabilize the rock walls. The plants stabilize and hold the earth the earth in place.

I somehow came upon this video and I am so excited to see how it all unfolds. Your whole family is just beautiful and am wishing you all every happiness! The kids are so great and helpful! Are they going to be going to school there in Italy? What a gorgeous location. I know a young couple living close by, and I also have a friend that lives in Turin, it is such a beautiful place with so many museums and so much to see and do, and the food there is so wonderful! You have found a beautiful location! 🌟

What a stunning house and location... Excellent choice! As a country girl I recognise those weeds in the wall help maintain the soil in place. Perhaps replace with ground cover thyme or another ground creeper with flowers. Plants are needed in rock walls like mortar.. You don't want to loose those rock in a heavy rain. Cant wait to see how you get started..First visit with your family...🥰

So exciting to see your family looks happier with your new project eventhough it's just a very small property at the steep mountain. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Watching this, I was delighted by the joy in your beautiful daughters. Their excitement is just so wonderful. Obviously bright and intelligent little women, you are going to have so much fun with them renovating this property. The soil is rich, unspoiled and organic. It will be great for any garden - the leaf litter will be perfect compost. I envy that! I love Italy, to be able to live there must be incredible and your girls grow up bilingual-bellissima. I’ll be following along, green with envy, but raising a glass with each triumph!😊❤❤🎉🎉

Congrats! I.pray for unity, patience and provision. Only the really brave will ever do this. Italy is the SLOWEST country in the planet when it comes to repairs and permits...in Rome, Milano, Firenze...imagine in the mountains!!! Ask Kaylie in Tuscany! Enjoy every second and focus in the blessing of finally doing what you dreamed of for so long. Why did you leave, is there a video explaining the reason? I would leave today and go to Italy if I could!!!

Love how you celebrate your free range children! There's sometimes a fine line between celebrating and indulging them. Like when she's throwing dirt on you even after you expressed you did not like it. Very patient papa.
