As Leftist Cuban friends have helped me understand, the brainwashing goes in both directions. But, of course, as in Gaza, the origin of the current problems lies in the historical responsibility of the original oppressors.

Listening to you quiets my soul! I am distraught over the unspeakable genocide in all of Palestine. There are portable baby incubators I want to get into Gaza, but I don’t know how. They are “Embrace Baby Warmers.” They require no electricity and can be held in your arms. It prevents underweight newborns from losing weight due to hypothermia, metabolizing their fat to stay warm. So many babies are born each day in Gaza. I must find a way to reach these new mothers.

I really like Paulo Freire, I am a supporter of the pedagogy of the oppressed and I agree with you in relation to the Palestinian people. Yes, I think they are aware of their condition as oppressed people and are very resilient. What I wanted to say is that, nowadays, Jews who live outside Israel are much more civilized and humanistic than Israelis. Especially young American Jews are not Zionists, many of them are aware that Israel is an oppressive military power. Of course I was shocked at the photos from the beginning of this most recent aggression, but today my solidarity with the Palestinian people comes from a deeply rooted kind of love that encompasses what is good about life. After spending time with some Gazans on live tiktoks, sitting with them while they were surrounded with approaching tanks, and aerial bombardment, on numerous occasions, they are precious to me. I now have this emotion that embodies all other emotions I have ever had and it became a single , constant, very tense emotion that took over even my dreams. Thanks for the excellent reading of Freire in the context we live... But as a Palestinian and a long time reader of Freire I would add that perhaps arriving at Conscientização is closer (if not immediate) for populations under settler colonialism like Palestine. The fear of freedom is less likely to develop and oppressor culture is less likely to be absorbed under apartheid and settler colonialism because the colonizer is only interested in removing the indigenous population rather than extracting their labor as a resource like most instances of colonialism. Curious to know what you think :)

I attended a graduation at US Berkeley yesterday. Quite a few receiving their diplomas wore kaffiyeh scarves over their black gowns. A Jewish valedictorian gave a speech supporting Palestinian rights and condemning the genocide. He received a good applause. I think we may be overestimating the possibilities love and dialog hold in this situation since the people playin 0:17 g the oppressor’s role seem to have slipped into a collective bloodlust and thus, are not behaving reasonably, logically or rationally despite the rhetoric they use to describe their situation and motivations. The data say most [80%+] Israeli citizens feel their military and government are behaving appropriately. The solution will not be simple. That line where love would work was crossed many years ago. I think We will have to invent a new kind of intervention that transcends war and diplomacy as we understand them now.
