_“The quality doesn’t matter to them [the passive consumer]. And do you know why? Because they don’t understand the value of quality because they don’t have that quality in their lives.”_ Quote of the year Ralfy! That’s a WMD of a truth bomb. Same can be said of the senior managers of distilleries who make the decisions to chill-filter, add color, age in dead casks, and do all they can to cheapen their product. That quote should be a tee shirt.

Hello, Ralfy! I've been following your videos for quite a while, and I've continuously found joy and knowledge in watching your reviews and extras, and you've really helped me a lot in expanding and enhancing my whisky experience, and in having better malt moments along the journey, even during extremely hard times.. I have a malt mention, and I really hope it makes it in one of your videos: Hello, Marvelous Mirthful Moonlight Malt Mates.. And thanks a lot for your amazing, genuine, joyful and informative stuff.. I can't believe you found a bottle of Elmer T. Lee in Vegas! I've never seen one. When you mentioned Las Vegas, I was sure you were gonna say Smoke Wagon bourbon. As for alcohol transporting me to other places, Scotch and Rum do that for me. Rum transports me to the US Virgin Islands (St. Johns), and Scotch takes me back to my vacation in the Highlands and Edinburgh. I toured the Glenlivet distillery, although I have to say I'm not a Glenlivet drinker (It was just a lot easier to go there than the Isle of Arran:).

When I pour a dram from my humble abode in Australia it takes me too the rugged coasts of Islay or the rolling hills of the highlands. Dear Ralfy, I returned from a trip in Austria and Italy, where I had an experience after which I told my girlfriend that I have to comment on THAT Ralfys video. So, we drove up the magnificent piece of roadbuilding called the Plöckenpass (Passo di Monte Croce Carnico in Italian) between the two countries. On the summit, next to the former border terminal, is cute northern Italian restaurant owned by the same family for the last 75 years. Fantastic home-made food, local wine, local coffee and friendly staff. After the dinner, they asked us, if we´d like "digestivo". Yes, it was Limoncello, made by old female owner of the restaurant. It had beautiful yellow to orange colour (not pale you find in shops) and you could taste the peel of the lemons. It was gratis and it was Limoncello moment which elevated beautiful holiday to unforgettable. We took a bottle of wine home and my only regret is that I didn´t ask if it´s possible to buy also Limoncello. Maybe next year. Cincin!

Greeting Mr Ralfy, what a video, human brain is a fascinating organ, you smell a perfume or cologne and 50 yrs later if you smell the same perfume, you would instantly remember it.I really enjoy my single malt when I am camping, a few sips , Cuban cigar and some Allan Parsons music. Shallow experience shallow people , used to see them a lot in rooftop bars etc, all they knew about whisky was Chivas Regal with 200 grams of ice . 😆😆 Honestly the best thing that I had heard in so long was the margin between being drunk and stupid and enjoying the drink, very very well said sir.

On my travels I have bought bottles of whisky's , but not drank them at the location where I was, but took them home. Still, when I open them at home I remember the holiday, the place where I bought it. Like a whisky I bought in Tokyo on my honeymoon, the whisky I bought in Aviemore 1 day after I got married there. The whisky I bought in New York... From a lot of bottles whixh I didn't buy in a local shop or online, I know where I got them from. Drinking them brings back the memories and that makes the malt moment more special than drinking something bought from a website or a shop in the district where I live. I have a blended whisky , bougth at lidl in the uk. Distilled in 1981! 34 years old! Quite a sherry bomb, because it was distilled in 1981, it brings back memories of that time , I was in primay school then, aged 12. It's the stories behind the bottle that can make a malt moment more special too :-) I have 2 bottles of Armagnac now in the house, distilled in 1968, my birthyear. Bottled 2021, so 53 years old! 1 bottle was 200 euro, the other just 100 euro! Will be opened when I have my 60th birthday, and when I retire. Ofcourse no memories from 1968 :-) But when I drink them, I'll remember all what happened since then, in my lifetime... It makes drinking a dram that bit more special than drinking a standard whisky from a big brand. Thanks Ralfy for all those video's and all your stories. I have seen almost all of them. Enjoying it a lot. Learned a lot. Will keep watching them. Slàinte mhath !

Ah yes. Elmer T. Lee. The quintessential high rye bourbon that drinks so elegantly. Elmer really knew how to pick honey barrels out of the rickhouse. The reason why we have Blanton’s bourbon is because of Elmer. Luckily I have a few bottles stored away in the face of outrageous price increases.

"Carpe diem." Sipping on Clyde May's Alabama Style with a dear friend on his front porch in celebration of the the purchase of his new home. The whiskey was small batch at the time and had such a unique, almost a caramel, butter scotch hint. My friend, who had tragically lost his wife a few years prior to, was in tears knowing that he and his young daughter would not be able to share this home with her. We sipped some more. Sadly, he was killed in a car accident only a few weeks later. Although I've never been able to quite recapture that memorable flavor with any subsequent bottle of Clyde May's, I will always have fond memories of that time with my friend on that front porch and just how damn good that whiskey was on that day.

Enjoyed this xxtras. When you are envisioning being in Mexico with your medical and palm tress are you still wearing the flannel jacket? Haha. That was in my head. It is true though, when you enjoy an integrity bottle that you spent your hard earned money on, you want to get taken away from the physical space your in and go to another place. No worries or thoughts or phones or televisions...just you, the dram, and an enjoyable moment within your head. Hard for some to relate and understand. Thank you

Great video Ralfy. Personally I only pour about a dram (yes...the old 1/8th ounce dram) into a glencairn when I am tasting any of my bottles. I spent more time nosing it, then I do drinking it. and even that dram gets spilt up into 3 or 4 sips separated by time. I find if I drink more then I do start to feel it, and then I think my perception of it has been affected. Truly enjoying the journey and finding the few bottles that I really like the taste and smell of...

Based on my own experiences of LSD it's maybe not a fair comparison to make with mild alcoholic inebriation. Psychological perceptions are very inconsistent for one, yet the sensation that a wee dram gives you coupled with a still firm foot in reality can be consistent. Some good stories bro

About your comment on wódka, i have to admit I admire the work that some polish distilleries put into making outstanding wodkas. Some of them are shockingly good quality, pure cleaned, polished (haha) alcohol but yet so charming. I would say wódka is more about the texture and the mouth feel than the taste. (except for cask matured, or "burnt" (palona) wódka which has a subtle extra flavor) Thank you for sharing your opinions for all these years and opening debates about whisky and philosophy. Cheers Ralfy

Yep, the basic recipe for a life based on the real quality of one's own experience (which you don't need riches for), not the perceived quality in the eyes of others (which the rich spend a lot of money for). Corinthians 1:13 rephrased: If I give all I possess to the distillers and give over my body to drunkenness that I may boast, but do not have taste, I gain nothing. Give my regards to the selkies, they'll need a dram when coming out of the sea.
