F33 is for the overhead switches (rear window, 911 button, etc). F66 is an accessory circuit, so nothing on it until you add something. These are acceptable for a dash cam. Never use a circuit that controls something critical, like air bags or headlights.

Hey Tony! Thanks for the very helpful video. I installed my A129 Pro Duo 4k following your process... mostly. Actually, I'm lazy and scared to take my truck apart so I ran all wires between liner and other trim. The wire can be completely hidden, even around (above) the passenger doors under the rubber door seal from the inside. No need to remove any trim, not even around the driver door. I left the extra rear camera wire tie-wrapped to a metal loop behind my passenger side rear seat. One thing I should point out: Each fuse receptacle has a +12V side and a load side. I checked mine with a meter. Those fuse taps should be installed so the hot fuse pin receptacle is "opposite" the tap wire. Having the tap wire sticking out to the left works with F66 for BUT F33 has its +12V on the left of the plug. That tap on F33 should be inserted so the wire is to your right. If you put the tap in F33 receptacle with wire to the left, the power to the camera will have to pass thru BOTH fuses. Not a big deal unless the camera plus normal load exceeds the 10A fuse rating.
@mtbrdude

The point of removing the trim is to fasten the cable BEHIND the path of deployment for the airbags.

Thank you VERY MUCH for making this video. I followed your video to install the A129 Plus Duo in my 2014 RAM Express and it came out perfect. The instructions for going though the door jambs were invaluable. My install required going though the firewall to get to the fuse box, but other than that I was able to utilize your instructions totally. You did a great job explaining and showing every little step and I truly appreciate it. Great job!

Nice video. I wish I found this video before I installed mine. For the back camera I used the right angle end to the camera and the straight plug into the front camera. That way you can bring the rear camera right upto the ceiling. The wire can go along the window chanel. You will need to make a wedge for the rear camera since the top of the rear window has a slight curve inwards. I just cut one of the extra adhesive pad in half and added it to the top of the adhesive pad so the top of the camera is further away from the window. Otherwise the plug will push against the window and will not work. You can run the wire along the headliner and the rubber gasket. It took less than 10 minutes to run and you don't need to remove any interior trims.

Awesome. Realised something after removing the Passenger side grab handle and weather seal. You can actually run the whole cable in the roof liner once you remove the weather seal, less risk of breaking teeth on the covers and floor panels. I ran the “L joint” at the back then worked the straight joint through the roof liner and central pillar between the rear and front door.

@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
You’ll have to tap into wires inside the truck that have power and ground, or run the wires through the firewall to get to the battery. There’s usually some rubber plugs in the firewall with other accessories run through and you can typically utilize those spots to run the wire through.

Less wide dash cameras are good to get better view to the licence plates from cars.. than the wider angle dash cameras. You will see when you get your recordings from this camera..I have the same camera on my car.. and is just fantastic. Video quality is more than enough in case of an accident and catching licence plates from the cars.

I have the 2021 version of your truck, same camera, and I just tucked the wiring for the rear camera into the headliner, ran it all the way around the headliner to the camera up front. Use that grey tool to tuck it under the headliner. Slack (about 2 feet) was tucked into the A pillar. The cig lighter on the top center of the dash on my truck is always-on. Thanks for the link on the hardwiring kit. I will do this.

Thanks for the excellent video quality and very good explanation as you went along with the install!

Great choice.. I have the exact set. Hardwired to use the parking mode. Installation was easy...the only hideous part was to tuck and hide the excess cables. As for the rear cam, I used the 90* connector end toward the cam itself, that way I can raise the cam higher toward the slide rail and run the cable within the slide rail and the rest to the pillar. Much much more cleaner look...you dont even see the cable connector on the rear cam.

Dude, you did a quality install. Although perhaps next time, you’ll wait until you install the back wire to the rear camera first, then set the back rear camera to the window. To rid that pinch of wire between the window seal over interior molding. It works! Instead of hard wiring, I’m considering using an exterior power source such as a Cellink Neo to run the parking mode or to run another camera. I currently drive a Toyota Prius and a hard wire is NOT recommended because it’s a hybrid and any messing around with the electrical system will cause problems with the system. Not worth it for me. I’m just looking for the plug into the cigarette lighter as a power source, then run that external battery when the car is off and set into park mode camera. Thanks for sharing your video dude 👍🏼

@@dustintrott776 Sorry I missed that in the first comment lol. The 2500's and 3500's must not have the fuse box behind the knee bolster. Pretty sure it's under the hood on those ones. So you'll have to check the fuse box under the hood to find a switched power and constant power fuse slot that you can tap into, then run your wires through the firewall to the dash cam. Usually there's some other items running through the firewall, or some rubber plugs that can be removed to run your wires in.

If the camera is only on when the vehicle is on, how would you keep it on for a traffic stop when you need to turn your vehicle off?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 3 жыл бұрын
If the parking mode is enabled, it automatically starts recording when movement is detected even if the vehicle is off, so long as you have it hardwired like I do.

Excellent video , but why remove the panels ? You don’t have to do that , just run the wire in to the door sill and why don’t install the rear camera in the middle the rear window and don’t open that window ?
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Because what’s the point of having a rear sliding window when you can’t open it? 🤣 As far as the panel removal, yes, you could just run it along the headliner or something, but I prefer my cables and wiring to be completely enclosed. My luck the wire would pop out of the headliner.

Good instal, but so much easier to run through the head lining, just pull the door rubbers down 6 inch or so and feed through the liner, hiding excess cable in the liner. full instal in 20 mins, done it on 3 cars now.

In the 2020 Ram Laramie 1500 the cigarette lighter on top of the console is a direct to the battery outlet meaning it always has power. My question is if I plug my camera into this power outlet will it kill my battery if I’m driving regularly ?

As long as that power outlet doesn’t cut power after being parked for a while, that should work. I just didn’t want a wire dangling down my windshield is the main reason I hardwired mine.

Haha good! Mod away! Do you have the same cam as I do? I noticed that unless you have it hardwired in, it doesn’t save the settings. I’m not having any issues with that now that it’s hardwired. My cam DOES shut off when I shut the truck down, but I have the G-sensor and motion sensor on. So if anything moves or if the truck gets hit, the cam starts recording. I might actually turn the motion sensor off cause my memory card keeps filling up with a bunch of useless 5 minute videos of a squirrel walking by or some tree branches blowing in the wind and I even have it on the lowest sensitivity setting.

Any tips for the f66 fuse? I have everything plugged in, but when doing a function check, the camera won't turn on. When I plug it into the cigarette lighter portion, it powers on. I have the Mico fuses, with 2 red 10 fuses, with the yellow wire crimped into the r66 fuse slot. I believe I'm doing everything correctly, but nothing is working. Any tips? Thank you in advance
@TonyTheTruckGuy
@TonyTheTruckGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! just a few quick questions here to get started. Are you using the Viofo hardwiring kit like I have, or are you doing your own wiring? Also, I ASSUME you meant that you have the yellow wire crimped to the F-66 fuse slot even though you said R-66? Just double checking we are tapping into the #66 fuse slot and not a #66 relay slot.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy My truck is a 2020 1500. The add a circuit should be the the proper size, Micro NOT mini. I push it in until secure. @@Faded_Shadow0721 I would use a cheap test light or multi-meter and verify that you’re getting power at the F66 fuse. Maybe they changed something between 2019 and 2020 for some reason. That’s the only thing I can think of if your add a circuit is for sure making good contact. And I’m not sure if it matters but I’d set the voltage selector switch on the hardwire harness to the same setting I had mine on
