@@BYLRPhil You can't find an 03 utv so that is not a fair comparison, but you can find a 2014 for less than 5k. With regards to price of course the best ones are going to be expensive, the ones from back in the day were way cheaper, but they were slower, less reliable, less capable, and most people are looking at sxs's with four doors which also increases price by 20%

Hate to admit it, but Roman has the correct choice this time. Sure the side by side is more capable at scampering along in tight places, but when the temp drops, the snow and rain hit or it is blistering hot, I would rather be in an enclosed cab. ;) This fire road is hardly dramatic enough to warrant a side by side.

One of my buddies in Quebec, Canada (where Can-Am is headquartered) just saw on the trails in the Laurentian mountains a high end FACTORY TEST MULE Maverick X3r with a FULLY-ELECTRIC skateboard motor setup. He took photos but hasn't shared yet but he did say it was was the quietest side-by-side he has EVER HEARD !!!!! it also had PHENOMENAL acceleration that just blew waaaaaaaaay ahead of his own fast Maverick in mere seconds! And range-wise, he was hearing from others nearby of at least 250 Miles (402 km) to as much as 280 miles total driving range with the largest skateboard battery configurations! That is TWICE the range of the gas models! They must be using the fancy new high-power LG Li-Ion cells and filling the entire back and underside with batteries in order to get that sort of range! So it DOES LOOK LIKE Can-Am is working on an all-electric Maverick in the great Canadian north woodlands and it looked pretty finished, so I would say 18 months to two years to retail production for the all-electric Can-Am Maverick AND probably also all-electric versions of the Can-Am Defender 4x4 and 6x6 models with the truck bed! v

@ Rick: True, just like the Raptor (not sure about the Power Wagon and desert/Baja-running though). They are NOT that great on narrow trails, tight switchbacks or rock-crawling -- leave that to the Bronco & Wrangler...and Gladiator. ;-) The TRX certainly isn't any "super truck." -- BR

@@jedironin380 ...neither would a Power-Wagon or Raptor here on many Colorado trails. Even if they made it through, the pin-striping (if not gouges/dents) would be considerable. ;-) Given Jeeps (JLs and JTs) are quite "skinny," they're way more appropriate in that context. And IIRC, even the Bronco is a bit wider than a Jeep. A "bonus point" (for me anyway): My Jeep Gladiator (mid-size truck) fits in my garage! That's one (but huge!) reason a full-size truck wouldn't do whether it was a street-truck or off-roader/desert-runner -- and regardless of how much (or little!) it cost. -- BR

In terms of actual OFF-ROAD ability the Can-Am Maverick WINS HANDS DOWN! The ONLY issue I have with it is its range is only 125 miles (201 km) which basically SUCKS! I would have actually brought the Can-Am Defender Max Limited with the fully enclosed (and WARM!) cab, the truck-like bed in the back AND I can put in an extra in-bed fuel tank for huge driving range! This is an interesting demo but they need to compare the high-altitude performance of Ford F150 RAPTOR, Ford Bronco, RAM TRX, Toyota TRD Pro, Nissan Frontier Pro4x and Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition trucks ALL using the same tires (Goodyear Duratracs or Nitto Ridge Grapplers) including total driving range to empty AND THEN relegate the Can-Am to a Razr and Honda comparison INCLUDING total driving range with and without an IN-BED EXTRA FUEL TANK (120 litres aka 45 gallons minimum extra tank size). The above noted comparison types are MUCH MORE usable by the average user than this video! V

Wish you were able to do more tests with the Ram Rebel because it's more prevalent on the road than the TRX.

Reading the title I thought “I’ll take the Maverick hands down” about a minute in I thought “nah, I’ll take a climate controlled cabin instead” it’s the ongoing love/hate relationship I have with Side by sides.

There’s no comparison. You’d have to have a trophy truck or ultra 4 car to keep up with a sxs in a full size vehicle. They are built to do one thing and do it well.

Roman is such a ford fan lol; "the Ford lane truck" strikes again! And actually, locking a rear wheel while turning a corner up hill is a great way to lose traction and/or momentum. TRX made it look easy of course despite the extra turn, even the Can Am backed up there.

@J DENTON Typing in caps just makes it even funnier when you're wrong. The bronco looks like a teen toy box for girls. Other than a little bit of branches sliding by the side of the truck Roman's drama about the trx being too big is just that; drama, he was trying to find a reason to justify the bronco. There ARE trails that the trx won't go on, but none of those trails were in this video despite Roman wishing they were.

Great video, but would be good to add a stock 392 rubicon recon and have a real offroading comparison.

Correction Andre - only in dumb Colorado (where I USED to live) can you not drive it on road (only off road). I now live in FREER state ARIZONA, where I drive my RZRs & CAN-AMs or whatever OHV, ON or off road. Keep trying to convince the Colorado communists to open up all roads for OHV vehicles! (More revenue, more access & more easily get your OHV vehicles to the trails!) Always great vids guys - THANKS!!

After seeing the 4-door Bronco make that trail look easy, I can only imagine how capable the shorter 2-door version would be.

My money would go to the Can-Am and a comfortable tow vehicle. The Bronco did great but it’s a $60k vehicle. I would be a wreck taking my daily off road like that. Observation- the tires on the Bronco and TRX look very similar.
