Tom. Thank you for being open about this. I spent a year in a children’s home as a child and thank God for all the people who were able to take care of me when my parents weren’t able, teachers included. Thanks to them I was afforded a somewhat normal life during a very uncertain time in my life. That was almost 60 years ago and I remember all their kindness.

There are 6 kids in my family and as we grew up and moved on, Mom and Dad took in foster kids. Over the years they cared for over 250 kids in foster care. We have always wondered where this one or that one ended up and how they are doing. Juanita and Joey, PLEASE contact this sweet family if you see this ! ! Thanks for sharing !

I am watching this through tears. Thank you for showing us how much you care. I hope all children have teachers like I know you and Melissa were. My grandfather was a jeweler. When I was a child he took me to an orphanage in San Diego, to pick up some Sister’s Rosaries he was going to repair. I spent several hours there playing with the other children. While there we played with a big doll house that had working little lights. Later I learned my grandfather bought them that playhouse. He couldn’t adopt them, but he visited often and let them know they were loved.

Even when I am using ramen for soup, I break up the ramen noodles before cooking. I have found that it is much easier to break them up before you open the package. I use the heel of my hand to crush them on my countertop. Sometimes the package will open depending on how much air is in there, so I start out slow, but it works so well and I find the noodles are easier to eat if they are not so long. I would crush them in the package for this recipe too as I don’t have as much hand strength as you do and it would be more difficult for me to break them up the way you did. I had this cole slaw years ago and had completely forgotten about it. As I remember, I thought it was delicious and I am anxious to try it again. I had forgotten you put the soup mix in the dressing so am glad to have my memory refreshed! Thanks! (fyi, I got teary thinking about Juanita too!)

T & M, thank you for being such caring teachers. The world needs more teachers like you both. I have been making this dish for about 18 years now. Always a big hit. My recipe is a little different than yours. The recipe I have as all the same ingredients except the dressing is different. It doesn't call for you to use the packets. Instead it calls for onion and garlic powders, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, the sugar and vinegar. I have also drizzled a little sesame oil in the dressing and also have cut up breaded chicken tenders from the deli and added it to it. I like to make up the dressing earlier to let the flavors marry. So glad this recipe brings back fond memories of you 2 students. My son in law is a 5th grade Englis teacher. My favorite subject was history. Take care and God Bless.

I found out that working with Children can really impact your life and sometimes break your heart. I worked in one of the Elementary Schools in our district, and I worked in the Cafeteria. In the late 80's I learned a recipe while teaching also, that was similar. We used the Japanese brand Ichiban Soup (Ramen) and our dressing was similar. White sugar, honey, sesame oil, regular oil (I used grapeseed), rice wine vinegar, & soy sauce. I toasted my almonds and I also added toasted sesame seeds. The cabbage we used was chinese cabbage, finely sliced celery, the green onions and finely sliced carrots ( like shredded sticks). When I had it, I put in finely grated fresh ginger. Enjoying your recipes and your presentations.

We enjoy your recipes because they’re “normal” foods 😂 You don’t season everything with a ton of onion and garlic powder. Your foods remind me of the things my mom and auntie made as I was growing up here in Iowa. How wonderful! I have been using this recipe for more years than I can remember. My Aunt Ruth gave me this recipe many years ago, the only differences are that there were no sunflower seeds but 1 cup toasted slivered almonds. I always made it to take to family get togethers, church dinners, etc.

I thought about you using plain cabbage slaw and not the tri colored package. I made some last night and "game changer"!! I am sold!! No more purple bleed over into the creamy slaw!! I just never thought about using plain slaw instead of the colored mixture. THANK YOU for the simple suggestion!!!!

I had been waiting to make this ramen coleslaw for a while and I was so proud I was able to find the slivered almonds and sunflower seeds so easily. Well today, I pulled out my big bowl and added all the necessary ingredients and got out my mason jar for the dressing. In went the sugar first and as I am following you on my phone I added all the others straight to my coleslaw instead of my jar! As I pondered whether I wanted to just add the sugar too and stir or should I start over, I came to the conclusion to just add the sugar and stir well making sugar the sugar was dissolved. Yep, that’s what I did and I was pleasantly surprised. It was delicious! Thank you for sharing one of your special recipes with me! Love the both of you and have tried so many of your recipes, without being disappointed. Wishing you were able to reach out to your former students!

Thank you for sharing this. I will be making this within the next few days. This is such a great channel, I enjoy it so much. It is so nice that you are real people, we need more real people right now, more than ever. My sister was a teacher’s aide for years, she ran the computer room, she would tell me so many stories and we would laugh, we would scratch our heads and we would cry. My sister really loved her job and adored those children year after year.

My cousin told me several years ago that when you make coleslaw it is important to "bruise the cabbage," this allows what ever dressing you are putting on the coleslaw to be absorbed into the cabbage mixture. I also think I would grate some carrot for color and I would also cop some red bell pepper pretty finely and then mix everything together.

This looks delicious! My mom makes a salad similar to this, and she toasts the noodles and almonds before adding them to the salad. It adds an amazing flavor!

I just love to see y’all do recipes that I have made for years. My boy’s favorite is the beef ramen noodles in this. And they love the nuts in there so much that we put a cup of each. The other day I made it and we couldn’t find sliced or slivered almonds but I had a huge bag of almonds but no time to chop or anything so I threw a few in and it wasn’t bad. We bring our dressing to a boil and let it cook then put over. I think it just dissolves the sugar. We love it even better the next day. Y’all keep up the good work we are loving the recipes. You make stuff I would make and love.
