You get significant price breaks when buying tons and tons of one design versus 1/3 of three designs, etc. This is called a price break; the more you order of one thing, the cheaper they give each one for. This is because they only have to configure their factory once to make the thing and can just let it run until the order is done, rather than shutting down, reconfiguring, and starting it back up. All of that stuff in between takes time, and factory time is money. The manufacturer will also have an MOQ, or Minimum Order Quantity. For big custom items like this case, they may have to order 10,000+ just to get the manufacturer to make any at all. To get around this, they'd just have the needed blanking/adapter plates made somewhere else (extremely cheap) and assemble.

If there’s a mini PCIeX1 slot on the board you might be able to use a mini PCIeX1 to PCIeX16 adapter to use a regular GPU with it. I’ve done this successfully on many ITX boards. Please note I’m not talking about the eGPU adapters for laptops that are rather expensive . The cheap $5-10 adapters work a treat, and you can connect power up to a molex or SATA power plug, too. I’ve found some boards will work with AMD GPUs but not NVidia GPUS or vice versa. Some boards won’t work at all, so you just have to give it a go to see what works.
@ianweber92484 жыл бұрын
mesterak Once support for it grows beyond AMD CPUs and GPUs, PCIe 4.0 will create some interesting possibilities here. At 4.0 speeds, the 4 lanes a typical M.2 slot provides has the same amount of bandwidth as 8 lanes of 3.0 or 16 lanes of 2.0, which is more than enough for midrange GPUs. M.2 is also a properly defined standard as well, so you shouldn’t have the same issues you got with MXM.

PS: Kinda unrelated, but I recently came across the dumbest Error I've ever encountered. I'd like to try to explain why a computer company does this. In the world of office PCs, your margins and profit are absolutely key. It makes *a lot* more sense if you can produce one PC case that you can use all up and down various price categories, because your margins are much higher on one very flexible PC case vs. the whole design process of several unique cases. In this case, the hardware is likely the cheapest possible configuration available - suitable (for example) sitting under a receptionist or secretary's desk, whose IT needs are extremely basic and so the company wants to buy something as cheap as possible. For this use case, the company selling this makes the best profit because all that's really unique to this PC is the internal guts. Everything else is reused from what they already have and so their profit on each of these sold is good. Hope this is helpful, genuinely.

A couple of months ago I upgraded my video card. I kept having games crash on me and I thought the card was defective. I went to take it out of my system to return it and found I hadn't completely plugged in the 8 pin pci-e power connector (it pulled out without pushing on the clip) so it was only drawing power from the 6 pin. I've been building pc's since 1999... Everyone makes stupid mistakes from time to time.

That would be nice for a small low-power application. Not a huge amount of money and as long as it works then it's not a total waste.

Picked one of these up at a pawnshop for around $120 five years ago. Came with a baller 27' 1080 monitor but damn, that thing is just a box full of barely hot air. I'm almost tempted to make a cardboard case with it.

I narrowly avoided buying something very much like this at a PC World store, only with actual laptop SODIMMs and a CPU soldered to the board. It was masquerading as a desktop and it might have fooled me had I not asked a (very helpful) sales assistant to open the side panel for me so I could check for expandability. He was as surprised as I was when we saw what was inside. There are a lot of these kinds of systems out there, so always do your research even when buying something that's "just for netflix". Also, you might be surprised at what you can get away with if you just ask nicely.

I have a HP similar to this but mine doesn't have a desktop CPU, it has a SoC (Pentium J2900). I moved the mobo to an ITX case and used tin-snips to cut out holes for desktop PSU and graphics card.

A few weeks ago I wanted to clean a fan in an old HP laptop and it turns out you have to disassemble the entire thing to even get there. I didn't want to take the time, so I used a vacuum cleaner and tried my best. It seems to have worked, at least it's cooler now, but it's still sad HP doesn't care about maintainability. Needless to say, I don't like HP. But I'm not a fan of especially these OEMs in general. They are part of the reason why we have so much e-waste and I despise this mentality.

If that i/o shield pops out, I'd try to put the motherboard into an HTPC case. It might make a great streaming PC.

don't forget the optical drive either. That's an easy $10 right there. The case is a good save as well. Perhaps saw out the case for the upper drives if needed (if you can't get it with screws) Would be great for a mini atx style case low budget in the future.

6:35 There is a built-in FPS counter in the steam overlay. You can enable it from the overlay settings. It works almost all the time. Also, in source games: open the in-game terminal and you can use "net_graph 3" for example.

I remember looking up this type of HP. I found the G2020T lacked performance than the G2020 which was £7 more.

Csgo has an inbuilt stat display option tho:- 1. Go to settings and activate the developer console option. 2. Press the ~ key in game and type 'net_graph 1' without the quotes. Displays FPS ping and packet loss percentage on the bottom of the game at all times.

Reduce the fan count by removing the CPU fan and fitting a duct from the CPU hs to the case fan (switch fan connector to CPU header), that was standard for quite a few OEM models back in the day, plastic dryer hose spiral duct works nicely. An alternative is translating the mobo to a SFF case. maybe a novelty one.

I saw the case and immediately knew. Have an AMD based system that's part of the same line of PCs just sitting in my closet after being retired 3 years ago. Good thing is if you remove the panel for the PSU you can make a micro-atx apu build in that case, which would probably work good as an htpc.

Yeah me and my brother recently built in one of these cases... That was a pain. 2 hhds and a non atx power supply are both painful.

Was trying to find some positives for this motherboard, but there is no USB3 and no PCIE ports making it only a little bit more useful than a raspberry pi. The main thing I can imagine it being good for is acting as a file backup server as it does have two SATA connectors, or a game server for CSGO or Minecraft.

Desktop setups like this are out there in different configurations, I've seen some with DC input on the IO panel, and others with a cpu tdp that could use one, but they opt for a 24pin atx connector and include pci slots. The ones with embedded amd apus from hp or compaq seem to have the pci slots, although most of them will run in 4x mode. For some reason the one that I tested wouldn't give me video out when I tried a graphics card.

I made one of these into a "gaming pc" once. Lots of dremeling and a bit of drilling. Obviously I swapped out the motherboard for something that actually had an expansion slot, mounted a full size psu, dremeled some vents into the front panel and added an intake fan. Specs were: Phenom x6 1100t 8gb ddr3 1333 Gtx 560ti 2gb 120gb ssd 500gb hdd Performance and temperatures were woeful but it all worked and I had heaps of fun doing it.

I knew before it even got half way into the first minute what this monstrosity was, I made the same mistake. I was able to flip it for a profit, but what a let down it was. If I remember correctly, the model I had did actually have a PCI-E slot on it, but I'm not sure if that's right. I seem to remember getting a 750ti running in it off of the slots power.

If that mother board have one of those tiny pci express slots for the wifi module probably you could adapt one graphic card. I mean, the reverse stuff that they make when they transform a regular laptop into a gaming one using adapters and a power supply.

You can turn on the fps counter in steam, its in the steam settings, and then the '' in game'' tab.

I own this computer! Pentium G2020T & 4GB RAM. No PCI Express slot. It ran terribly with the stock hard drive & but after an SSD upgrade, it became a lot more capable. Thinking about upgrading the CPU to a 3220T and RAM to 8GB... But it's probably not worth it considering what new hardware is capable of.

I picked up a HP S5000 which cost me a little bit more than what you paid for that although not a lot more, It's a Slimline and about half the thickness so as you can imagine it's nowhere near as bulky, Main differences between the one you bought off eBay and My S5000 are that this one has a PCI-E Slot for a Low-Profile Graphics Card and an internal PSU, Another thing I like about the S5000 is that their's a Portable HDD Docking Bay at the front of the machine which can come in handy! 🙂 Biggest issue to me is when PC Manufacturers install bespoke PSU's into their Computers as they cost an Arm and a Leg if you need to replace them unless they use Standard Connectors and Mounting holes etc...

I know that feel, bro. I bought an SFF HP Compaq PC. the model is DC5100 SFF that comes with Celeron D 2.66 GHz and 1 GB Ram runs on Win XP. I've tried to upgrade a CPU to make it faster but it doesn't work. BIOS tells me that's Error 1801 Microcode Update error and I can't Update or flash my BIOS in any way. In the end, I throw it into the dumpster for recycling and I paid more than 4 times of buying price.

Same thing happened to me years ago. I got a new Dell for a crazy deal planning to swap out the video card. I knew the CPU was good enough and the RAM speeds at the time weren't varying so much like they do today (Pentium 4 era). Then to my suprise, there was no AGP slot!

Csgo had the update that blocks 3rd party programs. You need to use the launch option -allow_third_party_software to display msi or fraps.
