Buying a pre-built PC can be an easier way to get into gaming, and a used system can help you save money. Sometimes though it can be an absolute disaster, as is the case here. Thanks for watching :)

I used to work for UPS as a truck loader (the guys that fill up the semi trucks not the vans) and I can say with certainty that no one pays attention to anything written on any of the boxes especially during the busy seasons. I've seen dudes build a wall of boxes to make it look neat and once the wall was about chest high proceed to literally throw boxes over their shoulders into the empty space behind the wall until it was full. Often times people would have to throw boxes to get them into the higher spots and so naturally the boxes would hit the ceiling and fall down a couple of times before it actually made it to where they wanted it. I've seen tv boxes laid flat with a dozen plus boxes stacked on top of them. It was super common to kick boxes on the bottom of stacks that were sticking out a little so they would be flush. I mean I could go on forever, point being yeah boxes with fragile written on them don't even get a second look.

Well, as an expert in shipping through battlefield-like journey, there's a lot of things one can do to prevent a mess like this: 1. dissemble all component, wrap independently with bubble wrap/foam wrap. 2. stuff the internal with lots of paper/bubble wrap. 3. double box the outside 4. tape/tie the parts firmly I do a lot of logistics in a very rural region in the world, our road condition can rival those 4x4 off-road tracks if not worse, shipping packages without damage is challenging. Honestly, it looks suspicious... as if someone sold it knowing the GPU is on the way out and decided to blame it on the delivery. Aside the unplugged power, look at the massive damage to the GPU slot of the case, the GPU would have had to massively trash around in there to cause such damage, but the plastic parts and caps on the mainboard all seems undamaged. You should try the GPU in a different PC tough, maybe the slot is damaged rather than the GPU. If that fails, try putting it on a 8x or 4x slot, in case it's the connector of the GPU. Having it go from solid lines on Boot/Bootlooping to playing RDR2 means there's at least some room for questioning. Also, I don't know if it's the case on the 270, but iirc the 280 from MSI had a physical bios switch...
@1pcfred3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I suspect some kind of a scam is going on here. Even undamaged that graphics card needs more than a 430 W PSU. One that actually can output 500W is the bare minimum. A lot of "500W rated" ones really can't. More like 500W in ideal lab conditions.
@@ResilientME the minimum recommended for that GPU is 500 W PSU. It is called derating. If you want hardware to last don't push it to its limit. At max output electronics has a shortened lifespan. Just how it is. As Tyrell taught us, The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. I like my PCs to have more than a 4 year lifespan too. Core 0: +27.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
@ResilientME3 жыл бұрын
@@1pcfred Nonsense, GPU companies recommend high just incase someone is using a 250W CPU(Bulldozer/14mm++++) or has an overated el cheapo. A PSU will fail when it fails, I overbuilt for my first PC(TOTL 850W for a 300W load) and the PSU died 9yrs later regardless.
@1pcfred3 жыл бұрын
@@ResilientME of course a PSU is going to die after 9 years. Electrolytic filter capacitors do not last forever even in the best of circumstances. In the worst circumstances they do fail faster though. Heat dries the electrolyte in capacitors out. Ever see PSUs advertised as having Japanese capacitors? That's because not all caps are created equal. Some are better than others are. None are perfect though. Every electrolytic cap dies eventually. 9 years actually is pretty good. That's 78,840 hours of service life.

Currrently i am using my old gpu which is an msi gtx750ti(the small one without 6pin) and it seems to be working fine.I ran some 'tests' on the 280x. i just lowered clocks and i increased the gpu fans to 70 percent. when i did that i was able to access a game for a bit like rocket league or witcher 3 however after a few minutes it would power off(better than when the clocks were higher with lower gpu fan speed). why do you think that that is happening? is it because of my psu or is there a chance that the r9 280x is a bit faulty?(the temperatures of the gpu were fine. didnt have much time gaming however on witcher 3 it seemed like it was hovering at low 50degrees)

I actually managed to fix a GTX460 that had a similar plroblem by taking the cooler off, and heating up the GPU itself with a heat gun. I don't know how long this repair lasts, but it's still working to date. I imagine the same trick might fix this Graphics Card aswell.

Check the card for blown caps and replace the bulging ones, I have fixed raggedy cards like that before. You will need your soldering skills though.

First thing I've noticed on GPU - is broken capacitors on one PCIE lane. This would not cause artifact's, but the card will fall-back to PCIE 8x or even less. Probably some small capacitors/resistors on VRAM data lines were knocked off the GPU and there you have artifacts.

Three years ago i was gifted a prebuilt for my birthday. It was a mid atx case made by Cyberpower with pretty much the same specs as shown, although i only had a 1TB HDD. Since then i have slowly gutted and replaced everything whenever i could afford it. Well except the disc drive and the HDD, i still use those. I have a ASUS Prime H370M-Plus, 650W evga psu, 32 GB ram, a RTX 2070 (I really wish i waited on the rtx in hindsight), SSD for booting, and an I7-9700K. Stock speed until i can afford a new chassis and liquid cooler. I learned a lot from 'Ol Faithful. The fact it was prebuilt meant i could reverse engineer wiring and cable management, and learn from it... Well for the most part haha. Working on a mid atx chassis' cable management can be a nightmare if you don't have tiny hands.

That little dongle on the back might be a 2.4 ghz receiver for peripherals.

That didn't look like dust to me on that heatsink, more like mould.

I had a similar experience buying a used PC off facebook trader. This was about 2 years ago. Had an Powercolor rx 470 in it, 240ssd, msi MB with amd athlon cpu, 8 gig ram. The video card did not work at all. Tried it in other systems and they would not even boot with it. Only gave $100 for the rig and, at least at the time, still seemed worth it. Was an otherwise clean setup.

Red lines like that can be caused by system memory as well. Might be something worth looking into

Video card issue: there's also a possibility the PCI connector was damaged beyond the cosmetic damage, there could be a pci lane not connecting properly. Worth testing with a different card there.

That was definitely a horrendous pre-build disaster I have ever saw and the sad part is that makes it even worse I used to have that case 21 years ago With the AMD phenom X6 1145t And the motherboard was an Asus I don't remember all the specs but it was also DDR3

Never heard of SPECTEK...?! Also the CPU cooler is an 8-core FX one on the 4-core CPU (the 8-core coolers have the copper heatpipes whereas the 4-core coolers only have the aluminium fins) - I'll actually be doing that soon, FX 8320 cooler on an FX 4100 (to sell)
