Not even counting Moss/Carter, this game had a ton of stars. From 1997-2000, RB Robert Smith was an absolute beast. Crazy, this game had Smith, Dunn, Alstott and Neal all in the backfield. Running Randall Cunningham started season as a Backup for Johnson (before leading them to 15-1 record). Tampa's Defense had Derrick Brooks, Lynch, Barber, Sapp. Nickerson. Minn had Robert Griffith, and John Randall the one man Sack Machine. Two SB winning QB's as well in Dilfer/Johnson. Awesome seeing this old footage!

The Vikes had a great backfield with Hoard and Palmer backing up Smith too and their receiver core was deep with Jake Reed and Matthew Hatchette behind Moss and Carter. The O-line was great too, one of the best rosters ever and they failed to win a Super Bowl. The Bucs great roster won a few years later and the only loss in the 15-1 season was to this Bucs team.

BTW this was deff not when people thought Alstott had passed his prime (IDK if you were joking). It was only his 3rd season out of 11 in the NFL. Also, He arguably had his best year in 1998, and went to 5 straight Pro Bowls during, and after this season. Johnson's first deep throw to Moss down the right sideline...he threw it a full two seconds late. Fact is, after Johnson's shoulder injury, his arm wasn't strong enough to overthrow Moss. Even on the TD pass down the left side, Moss had to stop and wait for the ball to catch up. That's what 4.23 seconds in the 40 looks like. Does anybody out there have any 1998 Vikings preseason footage or games? I have never seen a single preseason game from that year as they were very difficult to see outside of that market back then. Did Randy Moss get a TD wearing purple #18?

Moss should have won MVP that season. I don’t care that he was a rookie

Anybody else realize at 1:45 that's not even close to being Defensive Pass Interference? The WR ran into the DB. It's actually Offensive PI.

That would still likely be called DPI today. You're not allowed to cut off the receiver. (although Reed definitely sells it a bit)

At around 10:00 Mike Alstott meets Robert Griffith head on. Funny the roof didn't collapse at the Metrodome haha.
