I don't know how it is now but when I was in the Army all Rangers were E5 or higher and Airborn qualified. Back then there were no Ranger units. When you graduated from Ranger school you were rotated back to your unit or posted to some other unit. There was a poster hanging in the day room of my unit. There was a very fit looking young man in full combat gear, a long hank of rope coiled over his shoulder and holding an M16 across his chest. The caption at the bottom of the poster read, "THIS MAN IS AN AIRBORN RANGER. FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE AN ARMY RECRUITER."
@maciv333 ай бұрын
The reason all Ranger tab troops are E5 and above is because upon graduating ranger school you were auto promoted to E4 if you weren't already and it gave you the max points needed to get the next rank. During training you get to choose if you want to go back to your unit or go to a Ranger bat. Most non combat mos tend to go back to their units after graduation while 11B tends to stay at the ranger bat.
@brucesannino61813 ай бұрын
Thanks, '65 to '68 I was Honor Guard, Drill Team1st platoon, 3ed Infantry' Ft Myer, Virginia. My MOS was 11B1. I had volunteered airborn but during AIT I was interviewed but a 1st Lt but not told why. The next thing I knew I was on a bus, not for Ft. Benning but for Ft. Myer. The most important thing I learned in the Army was how to clean things and how to say with authority, "Assistant machine gunner, assist me carrying this machine-gun." I loved it. And thanks again.

Army Rangers don't have to be E-5 or higher. They literally recruit people 18 yo kids who just graduated high school. Back then when Rangers weren't a permanent unit yet but more of ad hoc, they recruited from other units. Like for example, when 1st Batt was established, many of its candidates were recruited from the 34th Division.

@ernestpaul2484Ай бұрын
I couldn't get into the the Cub Scouts for reasons I can't remember. I waited until I turned 18 and enlisted in the Army under a Ranger/Airborne contract. Still spent time in the woods with a bunch of guys, we learned to tie knots and to build snares and such like the Cub Scouts, only we had select-fire weapons and were allowed to blow things up. I earned several merit badges during my 10+ years in. Sua Sponte.

That cadet made two deadly errors. First, a gun is a distance tool, not for in your face fighting, Second, a peculiarity of the Beretta 92 is that if someone grabs the gun pushing the slide rearward the weapon becomes incapable of firing. The writer made careless use a writing trope, the killer who talks. Always goes bad for the killer who talks

Ugh, that fight scene choreography was horrendous. First, why use a kick instead of your gun if the goal was to kill or incapacitate to start with - need to drag it out and build the drama. Second, the slow awkward retrieval of the knife from the ankle sheath - same deal, drag it out. Then the somewhat silly back and forth knife fight. Yes, it's TV, but man it was hard to watch.
