The other thing I’ve seen that’s a huge difference is Rangers are usually around the ages of 20-23 year olds as SF guys are usually 24-35 average age from what I’ve seen. SF I feel is more of a mature game and Rangers are more like SEALs in the sense of young men that want to fight more than anything. That’s what my experience I felt seeing both units when I was in.

Entering either is a young man's game and not for an older man. The body at 18 to 25 can handle far more abuses and recover more quickly and as age starts to creep in the body cannot handle it as easily. I suppose the main difference between both is that Army Special forces is more of a Commando unit and Rangers are more of an elite direct action shock Troop. They are both special operations and only the best will get through.

@@osiris_the_great6861 I experienced first hand a taste of RASP but sadly because of covid shutting down all of the gyms, pull up bars, and making sports off limits at Fort Gordon i wasnt able to prepare for RASP at all while in AIT for 5 months so I ended up getting slaughtered and forced to drop because I wasnt strong enough to pass their pt test. Unless you're infantry or a combat mos, im hoping you won't be in the same situation I was in and will have access to a gym and pull up bars because you'll need to be using them every day to train. Still annoyed about what happened to me over there but just means I have to put a lot of work into it if I'm ever going to apply for SF later on

Going in as someone who did the opposite route outta high school...college work etc...I’m humbled I have this opportunity to serve my country. @Archer we’ll see. I wanted to badly before I enlisted and started osut infantry at ft benning And once I got here all i got was bad food/diet etc and that just messed me up. But it’s basic training so I can’t expect them to feed the thousands prime meals. The only thing I got better at was running but other then that basic is not going to prepare you for rasping and rucking i guess. But I got orders for ft drum so I know once I get to my unit, and with time, I’ll have the chance to get back to my self before basic training. 22 weeks is stupid long and you do more weapons maintenance and standing in formation then necessary. Anyways seven weeks left 🤷🏿

I regret the fact that I let him talk me out of joining a few years ago when I finished college. I'm considering doing a 4 year contract so I can at least say I put in some time but I was wondering how you feel about your service since we have similar backgrounds? Personally I went through the enlistment process but never made it to boot so I never got the chance, so I consider it my honor to take care of you all at the VA. I’m working on getting my 368 signed too. When you went to meps for active duty, did they offer you any chances to go option 40 or anything? I know 18x is open for prior services. But what about rasp for rangers?

@@BryceAnderson0 I don’t remember what my individual line scores were. But my asvab overall was a 78. So my recuiter said all of my line scores should be fine. And I’ve still got my security clearance, so hopefully that helps. That’s awesome to know though. I was worried I’d have to fight at osut or airborne school to get a rasp spot. If meps can give it to me that’d be great. Appreciate it!

A real danger for the Green Berets is a Blue on Green scenario. The GBs lost more men to trainees going Rouge. IE Iraqi Police. They lost more this way than Rangers lost in combat. Something to think about

These days SFs and Seal units who work with foreign units develop code words among themselves as a defense if they feel they are going to betrayed by the people they are training. Of course the code words are a signal to light the trainees up, blow them up or abandon them if possible. It has to be so dangerous working behind enemy lines or in a foreign land training people whose loyalty is questionable.

@@FNGACADEMY Sean, I will give a few details about hunting here just in case anyone else wants to look i to also. I hope you don't mind. First as veterans and more specifically those with a disability rating, Idaho is cheap to hunt. For a license and bear tag it is something like 25mto 30 bucks. We have two seasons that last two months each. The Spring hunt is April 15 to June 15. The Fall hunt is August 31 to October 31. They are the same dates every year. Anyone in the brotherhood is welcome but shit I will take about anyone who wants to hunt a bear or other big game. Any reason to get I to the woods. I'm also going to put this out to anyone who may have the same interests. I do a lot of rock hounding and looking for arrowheads. I have been very lucky with finding some very nice smokey quartz. Now this year I will be traveling back to Benning in order to pin Jump wings on my son. I will try to hit up anyone in that area who could take me arrowhead hunting or bottle digging. I'm sorry this is off topic from your page but I appreciate a form to put this out. I think I need to start up a page for all the adventures I try to do each year. i was a conventional Infantry E-6 I had a good buddy who was an E-7 SF he said something that stuck with me. He said an E-6 in the conventional Army can lead a Platoon and E-6 in SF is being trained to Lead a Company up to a Battalion. Force multiplier makes sense when put plainly like that.

I almost went there but my back got broken and then my heart for my life being altered in such a way that I didn't know what to do because I was going to war on the streets since I was 13 so it wasn't a big deal getting shot at and doing some war like stuff back. Rangers can always be sent back to regular infantry units so there’s that. Green Berets stay as 18 series and move in either alpha (main operators) or bravo teams (support). Navy Seals seek and destroy so there’s that. This isn’t a video game and selection is difficult, plus you have many years training to be an operator.

And seals if ur not seal 6 a regular seal team is like a lrsu or lrrp can do many diff missions army may be lil different now I was 1986-2012 seen many long and short tab guys doing. Regular infantry some even admin. Hate to say it. Had E7 in Hawaii chest said continue on back long and short tabbed in leg infantry unit platoon sgt I showed up there young tabbed stud and was like hell yes got a mentor dude was a road nco big time not gonna name names on him but he prob was a stud in Vietnam era but he was lil tired when I was under him as squad leader I don’t think I ever seen him at pt ever I went straight to csm please send me to scouts or lrsu unit so I could learn more. Special Forces can most certainly be sent back to infantry. There can be those that do a service run in Special Forces and then seek normal service again.

Wanted to go into Special Forces in 66. Dad was OSS IN WWII. Recruiter told me I had to pick 2 MOS’s that would help me qualify so became a 72B2P and only upon graduation from jump schools would I learn I needed to be 21. I was 18 at the time. 2 years in Vietnam with 173rd Airborne, 67-69. All good homeboys.

It's interesting that you emphasize the DA and SR missions so much for the Rangers, which makes sense given operations since 9/11. Would you say that the other missions like Airfield Seizure have been moved to a secondary status?

Yes. Airfield seizure was important at the beginning of the war but now we’ve pretty much taken them all. Rangers are primarily skull stompers in today’s world.

It’s great to train with a weighted vest. That way your body gets used to carrying a certain amount of weight but at the same time it’s bad for your joints because your body isn’t used to carry that much weight. So just go for it and know your limits and take care of your body

Just don't over do it, if you go into any selection injured its like having one foot in the grave. If your talking about running in kit once a week is fine same thing for ruck runs. There are many good programs online geared towards selections you should try them out and tailor them to your physical capabilities.

Kicking a ball straight up is a use of energy that results in no distance forward. Kicking the ball low along the grass results in the ball rolling, friction, ... it stops short. Kicking the ball at an angle that results in height, air travel, distance, bounce, rolling, then stopping. The ball peaking is when you are nearing SFQC graduation. The landing bounce is Robin Sage, the rolling is completely your final patrol. The stop is walking across the stage, with beret in hand. Don't peak too early, don't enter Army training with an injury. After Basic Trng., self evaluate. During and after AIT, ABN, etc., again self evaluate. Enter SFAS Selection with a strong soccer "kick". Fitness is measured in strength, flexibility, cardio endurance, and recovery . Find a GF, enjoy this time. Its a long road, good luck. @de Fossegrim Force recon has a DA team but the amount of action recon sees vs Rangers isn’t comparable. Rangers have some of the highest OPTEMPO in the military. Also, while the training for MARSOC and SEALs separates them from SF bc of the water, when it comes to operations, all three are very similar since there isn’t much water in the Middle East.

Looking to pursue SF myself. Looked a lot into all the different communities and definitely different reasons can pull different ways. Personally yea for missionset/job I like rangers, probably most, especially how much they're utilized. But overall from what I've found such as lifestyle, community among others feel SF more in line for me. Would loved seeing the video any future ones expand onto the whole picture brothaman. Community, lifestyle, opportunities, single specialties vs multiple specialties, main job, tier 1 opportunities, etc.

We had a US Marine that took 18C honor grad during my SFQC. I was trained in Commo, (18E), but we were on the same Robin Sage ODA. Our team 18D medic took his MOS honors. I missed the title in my MOS, but made Commandants list as our 18E class had a class GPA 99.97% academic, with physical fitness, APFT scores, averaging, then maxing and exceeding 320+pts. Marines get a certain number of slots for the SFQC each year, they all happen to be engineers, and the occasional medics.

From my experience dealing with both...GB seem to be more versatile. They are the ones that typically do well in civilian or military undercover roles. Able to interact with non-friendly and non-military and adapt easily. Rangers are single-minded focus, GB are “outside the box” thinkers for situations that are more ...let’s say...”delicate”.
