@@ns-islandsroblox I think this is a bad take or a common take. Honestly, Outpost can be used in feudal age and up to castle. Most people dont want to drop it early due to the stone cost but honestly that stone cost can easily be recovered and outpost vision is so good. There are games where high level will drop outpost of woodlines to protect vs archer timing. Or if you arent walled on one side drop outpost. Ofcourse later in game you should drop outpost to see as much of map as possible, especially major resources. Outpost is just one of those things that people really are sleeping on.

Outposts are pretty cheap... I don't think you can ever really go wrong with making more of them than you think you need. Town watch+outposts feels so OP.

Hera...Regarding the Byzantine pick, Ill disagree with you on one front only. Sure, free Town patrol with cheap defensive units are a great bonus combo that comes together, but to me there are only 2 reasons why Byzantines are picked 1) That cheap Imperial Age upgrade that often comes in clutch, and thus making you the first to research Chemistry and 2) Building HP that helps to hold castle positions and repairing walls/houses. That is why Byz for me will be Imperial. Byz camels can be good but dies to any civ that can have a easy knights to pike switch.

agree with OP. The Byz bonuses are mostly used to not die in castle age and get to imp earlier. You rarely see Byz pushing in castle age to win the game. Just look for equal trades (which is good with cheaper units) and then click up earlier.

Hera hit the nail on the head with Bulgarians (almost). If Bulgarians don't get damage off in Feudal, then you are behind for the rest of the game, and even if they have powerful options in castle age, with Kreposts and strong cav options, you don't have the eco to back it up, so if the game is even by that point, you are relying on your opponent to make a mistake. Which is why I said that he ALMOST got it, because he started off by saying that Bulgarians are bad (atm) but then walked it back. There are defiantly bad civs atm, because with 45 civs you need to have a reason to be picked over civs that fulfill a similar niche, and right now Bulgarians just don't have a strong enough reason to see them picked. Which as someone with a 90+% Bulgarians pick rate on ladder hurts me deeply

The “need to make something happen this age” is a good way to think about which age is key when multiple ages can be good. Grading each age for each civ in a big score card matrix could be interesting too. You did this with your commentary and would be hard to fit all that on a screen visually, so the tier-list setup with commentary works well.

I would argue that for mongols the most important is dark age. Thanks for dark age hunt you get strong feudal and timing for castle age. Amount of food is insane. Plus extra sight allow you to lame For Teutons i would say we very often see them in turnaments as a civ that stays very long in feudal design for scout wars (landmadness, crater). Its thanks to cheaper farm they do so well in castle age but feudal farms are reason for this

Loved this list, gives a very thorough overview on all civs! The one that I slightly disagree with is Sicilians. They do get their strongest bonuses pop off right when you hit castle age, but you have to make something happen in feudal first to be able to profit off that bonus right away. While they are not the strongest in feudal, it is then that they get their go, you can't make much happen if you wait till castle age imo

For saracens the new unique tech that gives monks aoe heal is INSANE. Imagine like 40 arbalest with one monk, and the arbalest will never die. The monk will heal them all at 75 hp per minute. For comparison elite berserk is 60 hp per minute, and georgian cav in imp is 20 hp per minute. I think that monk tech alone is strong enough to put them in imp/post imp. And it works for skirm, mameluke or hca as well. And it's pretty cheap as well. Definitely needs to be more expensive, it's op.

Really solid tier list!! One of the few where it's actually informative to pay attention to every civ mentioned since even if you don't play with them you might play against them. One note on Vietnamese though: their Imperial age feels strongest to me. Free conscription is kind of goated. As soon as you hit imp, all of your production is 33% faster. Trebs come out faster. Unit upgrades are researched faster. A really solid boost that pairs well with their eco bonuses and unit choices.

Saracens breaking though walls with CA? I had to double check that the bonus wasn't secretly given back. Saracens losing that bonus is a travesty. Having bonus attack on foot archers and not CA tilts the scales too much towards sticking with crossbow and not making CA, so it has been rather identity breaking.

Bohemians in 2v2 are an absolute powerhouse late game. They are my favorite. Get up to 70 trade, buy the resource Stone, spam bombard towers and houfnietze Across the map Michi, I had a row of bombard towers near the woodline, and another row along the trade, like over 40 bombard towers created on our side of the base

When 4/6 civs I enjoy & can use well are post-imp civs - and you can even make an argument for 1 or both of the other 2, definitely says something! Byzantines - Castle Age, BECUASE you don't have to worry about the cost to Imperial as much either. You can use your bonuses in Castle & if it doesn't fully finish them off or control the other Civ. You're good to go up to Imperial Cheaper.

Hey Hera... You put Lithuanians in Castle age...I think Lithuanians have amazing post-imp... If you gather relics for leitis, you get almost enough gold for mixed raiding army of leitis and winged hussars and then you get amazing, almost one of the best trash units for late game as well... What do you think?

Iam playing right now bulgarians only get to the 1250-1350 Elo. And I must say most of the game Iam winning in imperial and post imp weakest age is actually castle age. Cause no eco boosts to others and you are still one step behind compared to other civs. At feudal you are just another civ right now cause of crazy pathfinding. The man at arms are almost unusable. They are too slow and still bumping to each other and not attacking it is the pain! So they are actually good only as some kind of defense. Only really valuable thing bulgs have right now is actually konniks wich is good only if all castle techs are applyed or after. So pretty late. I must confirm, this civ is hard to play right now. But Hera you should try it in your 1 vs many plays cause there they have some power at post imp.

Id argue that the Incas have a superior solid Feudal game with bonus to population space on houses, less stone on defensive or offensive towers, and cheaper food costs on military, so you SHOULD be able to get out a decent feudal rush out with the wood and food savings, including some more gold intensive units like the archers to power up towers. They also get that free llama so you should be pretty good with food early feudal as well.

I will admit that it is a bit difficult for me to get over the historical inaccuracies inherent in certain civilizations getting access to gunpowder and cavalry, not to mention being strongest at Ages their civilization never actually reached in real life. Would a historically accurate AOE game be uninteresting? Are there any maps / mods out that that more accurately reflect history? I suppose having a definitive tier of "best civ" would be counter to having a varied, fun game. Still bugs me though.

suggestion for a tier list-related video which could be fun and share your game knowledge: after the next 1v1 Arabia tier list, go through the S A and B tier and for each civ there, try to find a sneaky bad matchup with other civs ranked 1 or two tiers below it.

Byz feels like Imp is their best stage, this is when their imp is 2 mins faster than it should be, they win treb wars they arent supposed to and the bad hussars arent really a factor yet. For Celts its Imperial age. but a diffrent kind of Imp that the early imp civs you put there, they need a little bit of time to get going. but dont sleep on Woad raiders. they are SO strong.

might just be me but i feel byzantine strongest age is imp. Going to imp faster and then have decent options with gold but drop off post imp. they drop off because post imp means full bloomed eco and then stronger units is more important then just numbers

Chinese don't benefit from their extra vils in Dark (outside of maybe BF), they're recovering from their lower starting res. They only start pulling ahead in mid Feudal (as they miss Fast Feudal timings entirely)

Hey Hera,thank you for all the great content! I have a strategy for you to consider! Why not use Siege Tower as a Ambulance! Put 2 monks in and rescue the weak ,low hp units in it. When full go back, heal and all over again! I mean Siege Tower can take many shots and can be great to hop in and out as Red Phosphoru was shown doing(T90 videos) ,but on the next level! I know you always like to save the low hp units,so please consider it!

Think I would swap Mongols and Goths. Mongol dark age is smooth and you feel in control, the take hunt faster is a lot more flexible and opponent almost has to go into a defensive mindset before you done anything at all. Like the white pieces in chess, you have speed on your side and the feeling you already a little bit ahead. Goth on the other hand feels like the black pieces in chess, you can go on the offensive early but it risky. A solide setup and threaten to counter or overwhelm the opponent later. Or sure Goths can stay in dark age, but I don't feel any good about Goths in dark age, the hunt lasting longer is more like a boost for the early feudal age. Laming for example, Mongols might take both their boars before opponent even make an attempts, while Goths more or less want to delay luring the 2nd boar. Blah blah, in short I could see Mongols in dark age because they are in control. Goths might have a good dark age but it feels more like +200 resources in feudal, like Ethopians and Dravidians also get.

Incas' best age used to be feudal when the blacksmith upgrades for villagers applied. That plus stone discount made their tower rushing very difficult to stop.

The greatest threat is in early imp and I should play towards feudal pressure, relics and eco to surviving early imp with arbs/skirm/heavy camel to Elite mangudai Onager with some camel mixed in...

I am curious about ethiopians being good in imp. Whenever I play ethiopians, I feel that I have a really hard time affording anything in imp after upgrading archers. I had the most success playing ethiopians going fast imp ~65vil, but I am wondering if this is not the overall best approach.
