The melody in the chorus of "Imperfect for you" was hauntingly ethereal. I felt so enchanted by it that it instantly became the most interesting song on the album to me. It made me want a guitar based album from Ari going forward tbh! I do think the trap beats are a comfort zone, but if I'm honest, they're also becoming a crutch preventing her sound from evolving. It's been about 5-6 years of trap beats from Ari now, and the chokehold trap music had on the charts when Ari adopted it is now fading. I doubt her future albums will include trap productions because by the end of this decade the trap sound will be considered a dated trope of 2010's music that got milked for all its worth & ran into the ground. Like everyone else who rode the trap/pop wave she'll have to adapt her sound before that time comes. I enjoyed this album , but its not much of a sonic departure from the previous two, and I'm excited to discover which sonic direction she ultimately settles on in the post-trap era.

THANK YOU for this, i totally agree! i was JUST listening to the album just now and the first thought i had was ‘it sounds practically the same as her last 2 albums’ and really the only song that stood out to me as ‘fresh’ was ‘yes, and?’ because it sounded different to her other songs (more like house music)

I wish I hated you hits harder with the context that she was alone in the studio most of the time. She said that in either the Zach sang or apple music interview. but it just makes it feel even more personal to know she probably recorded the entire song alone and never sang it in front of anyone else.

In my opinion i think people are mostly on the same page about the album because the music just speaks for its self, but I notice what makes the difference in peoples opinion is the personal experiences and where they are in their romantic life. This is without a doubt Ariana’s best album, it is her most intellectually curated and her most cohesively sounding project. Thank U Next will be her magnum opus, the cultural impact of that moment was lightning in a bottle and even Ariana has admitted that was her peak. But this album is artistically her best work.
