One thing that stood out to me as you talked about your palettes is how you felt about products you bought and how you felt about products you received in PR. I was intrigued that some of the PR products that you weren’t interested in buying became some of your top palettes. If you wanted to make it, I’d love to see a video about things you learned about your preferences and purchasing choices based on ranking your makeup this year. Just to be clear, I love that you got so many palettes in PR and were able to try them and do reviews and tutorials. I’m just curious how you might reflect on what this ranking process showed you about what you look for in products you want to buy, versus how you approach products you receive as PR. I hope this makes sense. I kept thinking about this as I watched this video and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Kelly, try a sponge-tipped applicator for those rich flaky shades in the Pumpkin Spice. Sponge tip grabs and doesn't release until pressed against the lid, as long as you tap off excess first. No one on YT seems to appreciate sponge-tips, but they were the constant brush used for decades for more than one reason!

I love the explanation that comes with the ranking because makeup is so personal, so maybe the reason why you dont like a product might just be what another person is looking for in that category, so well done making this video! I tried the persona identity palette this year too and now completely understand the hype! I used to be such a one and done eyeshadow gal and bought it mostly to wear the shimmer shades like that, but this palette is so inspiring to me and can't just use one shadow at a time lol

I'm kinda glad I didn't order the It's Freaking Bats palette, I would have been so excited to use that for the Halloween time, but getting it in winter or spring just isn't the same. I do understand that it's an indie brand and they don't have a huge team to fulfill orders, but 3 months so far??? Kinda crazy!

They got so many orders way beyond what they usually get and it is only a one person business, well now two since she hired a person to help with customer service so she can work on solely the palettes. I think what I am trying to say that this the overwhelming amount of orders affects an indie brand a ton, so I am recognizing you are keeping in mind that it is an indie brand. 😃I expected the release to take 3 months or more, so I went into it knowing that. For me personally, I wanted the palette for the color story, I love indie brands and I also love beautbean (Betty-Jean) so for me personally it is more than a seasonal sort of palette.

It was literally one woman who received over 5,000 orders. And she handmixed and hand pressed everything herself. I think when it comes to indie brands expectations need to be managed since they are usually one 1-2 people doing literally everything. The owner recently was able to hire someone to help and purchase a pressing machine which she says should speed things up quite a bit for her. I actually feel sorry for because I can’t imagine how overwhelming this has all been.

I got an email about it and I think they have down because of holidays and the owner was working a ton. They got the pressing machine and they are going to send more out on the 4th? They have also been on insta with updates. I'm still waiting on mine, I'm bummed but I can wait.

I think my favorite palette that came out this year might actually be the BH Cosmetics Naughty palette! It’s funny-there are so many beautiful palettes that launched this year, from Natasha Denona to Colourpop, and I tried so many of them, but the BH Naughty palette really stands out for its formula (perfection!) and color story (so fun and varied!). I can do any look I want with this palette and I’m thrilled with it every time, and the over the top holiday packaging just makes me smile. Runners up would probably be the Natasha Denona Glam palette and the Sydney Grace Tiny Marvels palette.

I knew immediately that you were talking about the Ultraviolet palette lmao. On a different topic, I feel like brands have used the pastel and sheer eyeshadow trends as an excuse to make eyeshadows that only show up on fair to light skin tones, and that doesn't get mentioned enough by white influencers. There are a few who I've seen do it, Angelica Nyquist has pointed out when certain palettes don't even work for her (light to medium skin tone). Now, I believe that there is a way to make sheer and pastel shadows that are still pigmented enough to show up on darker skin tones, but when people mention sheer or pastel palettes, they shouldn't just say "oh well if you like more pigmented shadows you won't like this," they should also point out that certain shadows won't show up on anyone darker than a white sheet of paper. There's more to inclusivity than foundation shade range; it's also about eyeshadow, bronzers, blushes, contours, etc. Edit: this is not to attack Kelly, I was just thinking about it because she talked about sheer formulas.

This was such a good video, I like your explanations regarding why you ranked a palette where you did. It helps us learn more about the palette. I didn't know you received the Too Faced Pumpkin Spice palette, I would love to see some looks with that palette. I just ordered it a few days ago. The bottom row in particular looks gorgeous. It's good to see someone like the Urban Decay Ultra Violet palette. I keep eyeing that one I think it's super nice. I just don't think UD naked palettes are worth the $49 price tag. The palette I kept going back to the most, which I bought in Jan. 2020, is DC Cosmetics Berries & Cream. It's got great mattes and an intriguing color story with a lot of versatility, and beautiful shimmers. I keep it where I can reach into it no matter what's in my daily makeup stash, and pull it out constantly to use this or that color; it's become a staple.

This year I tried the NYX Ultimate Brights and the ABH Subculture. Both not new but new to me! The NYX shadows are not super pigmented so I use them like pastels. They’re great as a transition for a colourful look. It’s definitely not worth the price they sell it for but if you can get it on sale, I do think it’s a great addition to my collection. My Subculture was second hand and was made in 2017. I see why everyone complained about it when it came out. I LOVE the warm tones in it but the greens are almost impossible to use. With a lot of work I’ve made some stunning looks but it’s definitely a struggle.

I love bright, fun colors and I've definitely been on a rainbow eye shadow pallet kick! I got a couple rainbow pallets for Xmas, so I haven't had the chance to try them in full, but the bh cosmetics Trendy in Tokyo pallet has a beautiful color story. The elf jkissa pallet also came out in 2020 and looking back on it, that might be my favorite pallet of the year, if not in my top 3!! Definitely my favorite rainbow pallet I have! The metallics are beautiful and buttery and the matte shades are so vibrant, the bright yellow shade surprised me!

Also Kelly, I saw on one of BeautBean's recent palette videos that she had mentioned that when they collaborated for the, "It's Freakin Bats" (is that the name?) palette, they had no idea it would sell as crazy as it would! She said something along the lines of the brand was a one-woman show, and the owner recently hired someone else to help her get orders out more quickly, but assured everyone they would be getting their palette! For those ofra palettes maybe you could paint the edge thats facing up when its in the drawer the main colour of the colour story so its easy to know exactly which one youre grabbing without having to open them. Like in my drawers all my palettes are standing up so id paint the top part with the hinge purple for the purple palette, green for the green one and yellow for the beach one!

I think I didn’t buy palettes in 2020 other than kaleidos lunar lavender palette (my no.1) & the shroud x Betty Jean palette (which I didn’t receive too) !!! I can’t believe it !! I didn’t buy a lot of makeup tho , mostly skin care & some clothes but then I couldn’t buy from abroad at all , I stepped back from buying cruelty free products for a while because there’s not a lot available where I live , I had to buy them from beauty bay, but I again I couldn’t so I kept buying from local websites ! & we moved out lol 😂 freaking 2020 is the year of shopping my beautiful stash , that’s a bonus! But I can tell you my favorite released palette in 2020 !! Oddly enough the neutral palette ( Side by side by nabla ) only because it’s nabla with unique arrangement of tones ! That would be my 1 and only neutral palette among my rainbow palettes! 2- Untamed by sigma because its neutrally rainbow lol 😂 it reminds of subculture by abh too 3- Betty Jean palette, it’s so unique ,bright & grungy 4- lunar lavender by kaleidos : it’s purple y’all 💜✨ & reminds of CP lilac you a lot 🌚🤭✨ 5- Mel x Sydney grace : it’s my 2020 tones in a palette: this year I keep wearing the tones that I struggle with a lot ; pastels & neutrals ( I have an olive neutral tan skin & that’s hard 😭) 6 & 7 are palettes didn’t release in 2020 but years before & I kept lusting over them this year : nabla dreamy 2 & Ace beautè paradise falling palette ( because they’re neutral palettes with a purple pop 🌚💜🤭✨) ! I REALLY look forward to these videos. I love Persona Cosmetics. All around favorite formulas in matte shadows, blush, lip gloss. I ended up not getting Identity 1 this year because I ended up buying Glam and then the Sultry re-release happened and Sultry was my one big regret palette. I did a lot of anxiety eyeshadow (and blush, so much blush) shopping in November and early December, but I plan on circling back to Identity 1 or 2 once I have a few months to take stock of my collection, decide if I am going to declutter anything (probably not) and have a play. I am also weirdly liking liquid lipstick again, but only in reds (and maybe super light nudes) and I know you recommend Persona's red liquid lip highly. But by March I will have finished my Coral gloss and that is probably my favorite lip gloss of all time (or tied with a specific color from Lisa Eldridge), so this is super high on my 2021 list since so many of my 2019 and 2020 favorites are the same. (oh and warm neutrals is a beautiful pairing with Mod Ren to get more use out of the cranberry mattes).

I’d love to see more in depth videos on any of the sigma palettes. I bought the 4 palette vault. I’ve been having a hard time working with them. So if you have any tricks? The mattes seem to not build on each other very well, like you should use as few colors as possible with a look? And some of the shimmers seem extra sticky/creamy, and I have a hard time getting them to adhere to my eye. And my other problem, when I use a dark color in outer corner, it seems to fade so fast, more than any other eyeshadow brand I have. I’ve been so disappointed in them. They almost seem comparable to my makeup revolution palette I had. If I would keep the look light, it might go better, but I prefer always using a dark color in outer corner. (If I’d wear winged liner or Faldo lashes I’d maybe enjoy a lighter look, but I don’t so I always feel I need to darken outer corner).

Kelly Gooch yes, I always use eye shadow primer. Every time I use them I feel like I’m using a very cheap palette, but sigma palettes are pricey at regular price. I just can’t help but wonder... some palettes you hear people say not to build up very many shades, like in the subculture palette. Most people I watch who enjoy these palettes tend to only use 1 maybe two shades in crease at most. And so many don’t darken outer corners. So I’m wondering if when I want to use three shades in crease, then a 4th in outer corner, if it’s just too much. My looks always turn out pretty initially, but a few hours later, there’s so much fading. I just feel like I’m in the minority. I’m one who loves too faced chocolate bar shadows, and Mac shadows, and (most) urban decay shadows. Those tend to build on each other well to build depth. Maybe if I just went more simplistic with sigma. Anyways, would love to see more looks and tips if you have any for working with these palettes. You did a look with the blue in the untamed palette, that’s be a great tutorial or even just a beautiful look to do in a get ready with me while talking about anything...

Kelly Gooch the green in warm natural palette and the pink/berry shimmer in cor de Rosa palette, and I think the blue in untamed, those shadows seem so difficult to get to stick onto the lid. I use my finger, and the pigment wants to stay on my finger. I can get it built up eventually, but it takes dip after dip into the shadow to get it to build up.

Really want to try the Nabla side by side-I got the Tiny Marvels and then the Child Palette by color pop -LOVE them both and am waiting for the BH Naughty palette to come in the mail-my other palettes are all drugstore (Milani’s older gold palettes(Pure Passion etc) and a couple of Profusion and Makeup Revolution- now that I have Sydney Grace’s formula I truly understand the difference a great formula makes during application-game changer!!!! Is the new Sigma Warm Neutrals (14-pan) that much better than the previous 12-pan Warm Neutrals that it just replaced??? I got the 12-pan two months ago when they were having a sale and I had been wanting it and got it then because I was afraid that it was being discontinued. I had no idea it would get two more shades and a formula upgrade. Now I'm feeling a little "cheated." I know that I got a fantastic palette that was well worth the money, just had no idea of the change coming.

I have to get out my Identity palette. So many people are putting it in their favorites. Tbh I don’t think I liked it that much 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s been awhile and my eyeshadow tastes have changed so I really think I should try it again. I ordered the Pumpkin palette on Christmas, it was on sale finally! I got the notification that it shipped a few minutes ago.

Not a ton of fallout! But I would say there is some glitter fallout in the Enchanted Palette :)

Shroud is a one woman show and was completely overwhelmed by the response to her BeautBean collab. She only recently was able to hire someone and purchase a pressing machine to help her. Up until this point she was hand-pressing and shipping everything herself. I ordered the palette as well and since it was a pre-order and ai know the circumstances Im cool with waiting for it. But I can’t wait yo play with that color story!
