Your assessment of the RF01 is spot on. When I'm loose and confident I'm ripping my shots but when I'm tight and tentative it feels like a piece of rebar in my hand. The more I play with it, the more I love it.

I really think Head needs to change the names of their rackets. Speed, Radical, Boom, don’t fit the character of those rackets. The names appear to be chosen as marketing buzz words with no consideration for what type of racket it actually is.

Agreed and it's unfortunate because they make some pretty amazing rackets right now.
@johncharles23573 ай бұрын
The problem is that they lose their identity. The Radical came out in the mid 90's for Agassi and was named because it was indeed radical at the time. Similarly, the speed came out in the late 2000's and was supposed to be a "fast" racket. As the manufacturers try to innovate, they try too hard and the rackets lose their identity.

Had an interesting experience recently - I've got two old Prestige Microgel MPs (both given to me by a coach) and I pulled one out the other day, as the strings on my Speed Pro have frozen. I loved the Prestige - ended up hitting the longest, heaviest forehands - loads of plush feel and control. So much for new tech ...

Didnt have that problems with other raquets. With so many people saying its so comfortable i am really confused. I tested the Speed MP 2024 with same string and had less arm problems but the 330 SW really isn‘t for me in terms of manuverability. Maybe i will just buy the Speed MP 2022 with its lower SW but i don’t have the possibility to test it. Did anybody else had elbow issues from playing with the Gravity MP? @GabeFSU3 ай бұрын
I owned both and really enjoyed them. The 100D provided a very consistent ball flight and solid feel. I did feel like it had less spin potential and as strings got old balls kept sailing a tad. Also, I have a OHBH and the 97 felt better for that stroke. On flat serves both were similar, but on spin serves the increased maneuverability of 97 helped me a tad. Neither is great on defense, but I felt I had an easier time flipping up a deep topspin ball with 97. Again, both very solid but my game just meshed better with 97.
@RacketsRunnersVancouver3 ай бұрын
The 100D is a crazy racket that I only briefly played with because we don't carry it but it is MIGHTY. That's the word I would use to describe it, super stable, super controlled but also plenty of power. Like a more powerful Gravity Pro but I find it harder to use. The Percept 97 is a much more traditional control oriented and much MUCH more maneuverable.

@TheMergeBuff453 ай бұрын
Pretty sure it will be next year. The images of that Gravity Tour 98 reveal a new paint job, meaning that more than likely it will be released in the next cycle/version which will be next year. Head tends to update their rackets every two years and the current Gravity was released in 2023. It seems like only the Tour will be released as a 98 and not the Pro, so you might be waiting a while for the 98 Pro, although you could easily customise the Tour up to the Pro’s specs.

The philosophy behind this tier list is very wired. I recently mainly play with RF 01 pro and Shift Pro. I spend 80% of time playing with the RF when I am playing casually. When I play a match which I WANT to win, I use my Shift 100%! I do not know why "indenty crisis" can be a bad thing for a racket, since you are not expecting to pick a different racket for each type of shots. RF is FUN to use when you are attacking relentlessly, but it is one of the worst rackets I have used while defending.
@flodar15483 ай бұрын
completely agree with your analysis
@RacketsRunnersVancouver3 ай бұрын
I understand what you're saying. To be honest I look at these tier lists more as an opportunity to talk about all the rackets in one video and ranking them is obviously going to stoke some interest. I'll address the whole tier list concept in Part 2. Now specifically for those two rackets, I completely understand what you're saying, the Shift Pro is certainly more of a safety blanket, BUT, there are other rackets that I think are better if that's what you're looking for. Like you said, the RF 01 Pro is tough to defend with but if you're looking for that relentless, attacking racket, there aren't many better. So I think the RF 01 Pro is relatively better at what it does than the Shift. Like you said, though, "identity crisis" may not actually be a bad thing because that's also what makes the 99 Pro unique. It's the fact that it is a consistent, fairly forgiving, 18x20, but has way more spin than you would expect. I just think that that bit of unique playability is a bit too niche but for people like you (and actually me - I play really well with the Shift 99 Pro), it works very well. Hopefully that makes sense.

I think this has a heavy control attack style bias. After demoing the pro 01 i switched to it which is turning out to be a pretty big mistake. It has a lower swingweight and weight than my previous racquet so this isnt a question of can i handle it. But what ive found is that the raquet doesnt handle defending very well. A lot of shots that were neutralizing defensive shots now float a little more. You mentioned the getting tight portion being a problem but thats a lot more important than you made it out to be. If a raquet harms you when you get tight that costs matches. Your base level is more important then when you play perfectly. Even attacking like its point click which is nice i can hit my spots. But all my hitting partners mention my ball is weaker. And a lot of times you need a heavy ball to open up the court for control. Sure its easier to beat weaker players as you have full control but i think some of these other aspects are getting overlooked mostly things like power and forgiveness.
@RacketsRunnersVancouver3 ай бұрын
I understand what you mean but the way I look at it, the RF 01 Pro is so good for that one style of play that I don't know what other rackets can compete with it there. Yes it's lacking defensively, but if you're looking for that offensive style of racket, it's probably the best right now.

Thanks for this list. Missing the Aero 98 (and the solinco white out). I would put them at least in A tier :). Shift 99 should go to B tier (just bought it). The latest PS97 disappointed a lot certainly compared to the RF97v13. I sold it so C for me. :) 😮

what about blade 98 pro 16x19?

We don't have access to it in Canada, unfortunately.

@@RacketsRunnersVancouver can’t emphasize enough of how shocked i am that my 3rd world country has it but canada doesn’t. how come you don’t have it there? do they just assume you will ship it over from the US?

Why no v core 98? Or aero 98

Worst take is saying that vibration dampeners do anything other than alter sound. Makes me think you're just throwing stuff to the wall

Until someone proves this to me with irrefutable evidence, I will never believe it. This has been a big source of contention at the store. #dampenergate

@@RacketsRunnersVancouver That makes sense. I sometimes forget, despite you always reminding the viewers, that you don't carry everything under the sun.

The RF rackets are way too expensive at least here in Europe. I don't think they're the racket for me thankfully 😂
