In the oc, lead actress Mischa Barton who was a “Chanel girl” of her day had a large influence of her character and wanted her to wear designer. She is quoted saying- “I started getting Chanel to send stuff. I started having these designers send stuff over because I saw the merit in getting that kind of stuff on television. It was interesting: If I had those connections in the fashion world, why not? [The wardrobe department] would totally have been happy just dressing us as regular teenagers, to be honest. Not in a bad way, we would have looked adorable, but we would have been just your average Orange County teenagers. But with my wiling and conniving I was like, 'You know what would be super great is if we could get this Chanel dress for this [prom] episode,' and it kind of all came together.” But the handbags were mostly fakes.

Hi I'm an American who was in high school during the airing of The OC... Yes, we wore those Hollister/Lacoste/Ralph Lauren polos, we even layered them 🥲🥲🥲 i actually grew up in the OC area too, so the clothing in this show is exactly what the preppy and beach kids wore. The other kids were MySpace emo/Scene kids.

I watched the OC as it aired and it was one of the most unattainable styles ever, because I lived in Alaska. lol. I also still think about season 1 all the time, it is a part of my soul at this point. Same with season 1 of Gossip Girl, loved that too, never finished the show, but gods did I love it. YES SKINS VIDEO PLS! I only managed to see bits of it & pictures at the time, (I'm American and it was only on some premium channel rerun plus my parents wouldn't have let me watch it!) but its influence on my style was HUGE. I wished I could dress like Effie then but now I'm more inspired by Cassie. Watching all of it later reminded me how iconic it was, both in fashion and film. Euphoria rly is its spiritual successor.

Last year I wanted to indulge in a Skins era for summer. I never watched Skins growing up even when it was coming out at the right time for me. I live in a third world country so people didn't dress like they did in the TV and of course, I wasn't a confident girl nor did I do anyhting like the show (thank god!). But I wanted to try that style that still felt nostalgic. Somewhat experimental. Kid like but free and, let's be honest, I missed the 2010's. I wanted to live that Indie Sleaze dream. Of course, nothing in my wardrobe fits the vibe! I would love to see you try it and dress like a Skins character.
