I have known Alan for almost 30 years. This is a song he wrote and those pictures are his wife, daughters and parents. Alan had to stop touring because of a Neurological disorder that has taken a toll on his health. He is one of the most beautiful and sincere human beings I have ever known. I worked in both Rock and Country. This song is one I dance to with my wife on days when we spend time together alone. A beautiful song with a huge message about what is important in life. I saw your face when you reviewed this piece. That was true and raw emotion. You are an amazing man. Thank you for giving this Artist and song the credit it deserves. Alan stay well my friend.

And that's his daughters in the video... he has 3 daughters. You have to listen to Daddy let me drive!!! His daughters are in it... I think that one will really touch you because you have daughters! His oldest daughter Mattie was married for 11 months when her husband passed. Alan Jackson's daughter, Mattie Jackson Selecman, has released a book called Lemons. She will share how she dealt with the death of her husband just 11 months after they married. Ben Selecman was helping a woman onto a boat while they were vacationing in Florida when he fell and hit his head. He was just 28 years old.

Their relationship is well known in Country circles. When they were young Alan had a car he loved, a 1955 Thunderbird convertible. He had to sell it because they needed the money. Yes, Alan wrote the song - a love song to his wife. They got married young, struggled financially, raised their kids, are growing old together, facing some health issues.... It's his love letter to her and their life together. My favorite Alan Jackson song is a fun one - a collaboration with Jimmy Buffett called It's 5:00 Somewhere
@emerje0
@emerje0 6 ай бұрын
I love the guy, but working with Buffett was rather hypocritical of him. He's often critical of modern country music, even calling out Chris Stapleton of all people, but he's had his own non-traditional hits.
@AskMeHowItsTheGovernmentsFault

@emerje0 there's no hypocrisy there.... One can be critical of another's opinion on a topic and still have a creative relationship. We aren't 5, that is ridiculous
@emerje0
@emerje0 6 ай бұрын
@@AskMeHowItsTheGovernmentsFault Then I suggest you tell that to the guy doing interviews saying real country music is dead despite having made non-traditional country music himself. If he can do that and say he's one of the last making real country music then others should be able to make what ever version of country music they see fit without being openly criticized by him.

As an older woman at 68, I can promise you absolutely never stop maturing and learning. My Dad was killed at 40 when I was 4. Up until I turned 40 I truly believed he was old. Alan Jackson really hasn't quit music, but he was diagnosed over 10 years ago with Charcot- Marie- Tooth disease. It has a weird name, but it's a genetic neurological disorder that leads to nerve damage that can affect your feet, legs, arms and hands. There is no cure for it, but can somewhat be managed with braces for your legs and possible pain pills for nerve pain. The progression of the disease has made it too difficult for him to tour, although he said he still comes up with new song ideas from time to time.

This is correct. I have a cousin to this disease called hereditary spastic paraplegia. No cure and it’s tough to deal with but I count my blessings everyday. He has become one of my favorite artists partly because of this. Great singer/songwriter.

It’s even sadder now because Alan has a disease. He has trouble standing. He is such a wonderful human being and singer/songwriter. I have loved him since his first song was released. He is a true gentleman. Tragedy has struck him a few times. He and his family watched as one of his daughter’s husband being newly married, lost his balance in a boat and hit his head killing him. Alan was and still is very distraught over it. With this disease he will degrade physically as each day passes. Please listen to more of his music. He has made tons of wonderful music. Take a listen to the song he wrote about September 11th. After hearing what happened while on his bus while touring he wrote the song. “ where were you when the world stopped turning”

Yes, that is his wife, he was 20 when they married and they've been together for 45 years now! He stopped performing because of neuropathy (the loss of muscle and nerve sensation/touch) in different areas of the body (typically the feet but also hands). He said on the Today Show "...it's been affecting me for years. And it's getting more and more obvious. And I know I'm stumbling around on stage. And now I'm having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable." My dad has neuropathy, no feeling in both feet at all, but he refuses to let it slow him down. He's 68 and only now starting to cut back from his full time hours doing maintenance at a nursing home. He has to be careful, he recently went on vacation and did a lot of walking, only to come back to the hotel and find massive blisters on both feet.

He became a dad to my daughter and we had another daughter together and we have been through a lot that would have been the end for many couples. I now have stage 4 vulvar cancer and I have no more options for treatment. He has stood by me and even had to go back to work at 80 to cover my medical expenses. I love this man more than words can express and it hurts so bad to know he will be alone when I’m gone. Hug your babies and tell your wife you love her every day. And remember when….

This was my wife and my song. We were married when we were 30 years old. Sadly she passed away in 2021 at 44 years old. Every time I hear this song it makes me well up, but it reminds me of the love that we shared and makes me smile. Thank you for your reaction.

Yes, Alan Jackson wrote the song "Remember When" as a gift to his wife, Denise. It was supposed to be a 25th anniversary gift but was released 6 months before their 25th anniversary. They are one of the longest country music couples. celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this year.

Alan has written most of his songs. He wrote Where Were You after 911 and sang at the CMA's that year. You can find that performance on KZbin. It is well worth a listen but you won't find a bad song

This song was played at my grandma’s funeral and for years after the first notes would get me chocked up. I’ve always looked at this song as remembering the great life lived after a loved one passes.

I wasn't blessed with children myself. I married a girl who had three kids. I'm just a few years older than you. I'll be 48 in January. I'll never know the joy of having children of my own. I loved my step-kids, and always will. This song has meant a lot to me for years. I'm glad to see your appreciation of it.

He has many great songs, another emotional one is "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)", about 9/11...then he has some fun songs too like "Chattahoochee", "Mercury Blues", "Summertime Blues" which I believe is a remake, "Gone Country"...hope you can vibe with these or other tracks in his catalog. Another great reaction Back P! 40!

Chattahoochee is a fun song. When I moved to Florida from Boston at 19 I got an education in how different it is in the South and remember that song was art f my education. It's just all the way different.

@@Ontheroxxwithsalt yeah, it's a different world... and there's even some who don't consider most of Florida "the South"... more like a New York/New Jersey relocation area..haha. Of course, the state I live in, Virginia, isn't considered South by some either. Weird.

Great reaction my friend. This song is an anthem that celebrates the perseverance and endurance that it takes to have a long and successful marriage. I've been married 33 years. The road is not been easy. We've gone through some really hard times and times where we both thought we should leave or that the other one was going to. But because we both stuck it out and had at least enough trust that the other one was willing to continue to fight for a good marriage we ended up knowing a love deeper and stronger than we ever could imagine. It's hard to say where that line is when someone should leave a relationship especially when one person isn't willing to do anymore or to fight for the relationship. I hope that you and your wife have a marriage with enough Downs that you are able to experience a love that you never knew was possible. And I hope that your eyes continue to grow and grow and grow with you as you watch your children grow and grow into young beautiful ladies.
