Toby Keith did 18 USO tours (which came out to roughly 300 shows) for the military troops overseas, which is quite the patriotic presence this country needs. Conversely, Bob Hope? He had done 57... yes, 57 USO tours, and have no idea how many 57 tours would accumulate in how many shows he did. In fact he's received many military related medals that no civilian has ever been honored with. He wasn't the best of husbands in terms of fidelity but to his country, his heart, just like Toby Keith, was in the right spot.

Toby was a true patriot and an American icon. He joined with the USO 18 times and performed for the military in 17 countries. But he did more than sing for them. He got to know them. Spent time with them. He also opened a cancer hospital for children run like St Jude here in Oklahoma. To meet Toby was to know him. No pretense, no high horse. Loved his family, Oklahoma Sooners. Everyone thought they were Toby’s best friend. He is greatly missed by so many 😢❤

I met a guy at a restaurant in Kentucky a few nights ago that is an army vet from Colorado. We had some drinks and he was in Afghanistan when things were hot over there about 22 years ago. He said the sarg told them if you have a cowboy hat bring it and meet at such and such at 18:00 or so. They had no idea but it was Toby surprising the troops in a dangerous zone to perform for them. Came in and left on a chopper. I already knew he did things like that but it was awesome talking to a vet that’s our age (44 years old) and he said he had nothing but respect for Toby for risking his life to entertain the people that were there risking theirs. Great story and it was great meeting this vet. Thanks to him and everyone else out there that laid down your lives for us. God bless.

I ran into Toby on a deployment on a US aircraft carrier. Real cool guy, RIP to a legend. We will never forget anything he did. I remember my dad getting into a fight, for no damn reason at all. Some dude just up and tried to punch him, we were at one of those pubs trying to get food for dinner, and take it home. I don't know why he swung, but I watched my dad lay this man out. This is the same dad I watched carry a whole pine tree before it fell on our house. He was 63 at the time. Sure enough, the next day... he's on the couch... wrapped hand dipped in ice... just didn't want to move, and he asked me to get him a beer out the fridge. His next words? "I'm getting too old for this..."
