Let's take a moment to appreciate a crowd of French people all singing passionately in German. Only a few generations removed from Germany conquering France in WWII. That's the power of music, and that's the power of Rammstein.

Ok my fellow trash talkers, here is a detailed explanation of how "du hast" is supposed to be meant. "Du hast" in German cannot *directly* be translated into English. Without further context, (unless a certain verb is following) "du has(s)t" could mean both: "you have (verb) me" or "you hate me". if you say "du hast mich" it is supposed to be "du hasst mich" (double ss) (you hate me) but if you add another verb at the end then the verb "hast" is supposed to be an adverb and written as "hast" (single s) (have). "du hast mich gefragt" translates to "you've asked me" you could of course use another (accusative) verb. e.g. like "lügen" (to lie) "du hast mich belogen" (you have lied to me) or "schlagen" "du hast mich geschlagen" (you've hit/beaten me). Side note: It's important to use an accusative verb. If you use a dative verb then "mich" will become "mir". At the middle of the song Till reveals: "du hast mich gefragt ... und ich hab nichts gesagt "which means just "you have asked me .... and I said nothing". I hope this makes it clear.

Till Lindemann (the Singer), used to be on a short list to the 1980 Olympics (for East Germany), but he never got there, and he have kept himself in shape ever since. Till is also a licensed pyrotechnician, and does all the pyro himself. "An incident in September 1996 caused a section of the band's set to burn, and as a result, Lindemann got his certification in pyrotechnics so the band could perform with pyrotechnics more safely than it had previously" The reason why Flake (the guy on the keyboard) is on a treadmill, is actually quite simple, he have so much energy, that he can't stand still, and because of all the fireworks he for obvious reasons can't run randomly around the Stage. The real reason why the members looks dirty is because of anti flammable gel, because of safety reasons, and some of the powder residue sticks to the gel, making them look dirty. I'm not certain about this, but I have read several times, that Till does have some stage fright, so he often picks a point over the crowd that he focus on, instead of looking directly into the crowd. "The lightning" is CGI added afterward, the rest is quite real. How hot is was, it was hot..I have been to 3 of their shows (not this one thought), but 2 outdoors, and 1 indoor, the indoor was really hot, I drank 2 bottles of water and felt like I have used a couple more. The band have some merchandise if buy ticket to the front row, with the text "I survived Front Row at a Rammstein Concert" I don't have that myself, but one of my friends have.

Quote from Wikipedia: Following an accident in Berlin on 27 September 1996, in which some burning decorative parts of the stage collapsed, the band started using professionals to handle the pyrotechnics. Lindemann subsequently qualified as a licensed pyrotechnician, and often spends entire songs engulfed in flames. He has suffered multiple burns on his ears, head, and arms. I would agree that "Du Hast" is probably their best known song. In fact, I first became aware of Rammstein because "Du Hast" is one song of "The Matrix" soundtrack. The first time I watched them was the "Live aus Berlin" DVD (1999), and I thought, "WOW! This is like The Munsters meet championship wrestling meet heavy metal in Germany!" I'd say take a look at "Weisses Fleisch"; a really strong industrial vibe like "Du Hast".

Well there are more classes in Germany for the pyro. So Till has the "big one" (means he can blow up nearly everything except houses, mountains for mining, etc.) and the other members have the "little one" and are his assistants, otherwise they wouldn't not be allowed to handle it, for all at least the rhythm guitarist Paul Landers and the Lead guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe. But in my memory all have something which allowed them to use it and since a while they also have a producer, because otherwise it would be too much, if the band would do it on their own. That is, why it became more and more as the years passed. The licence has also to be renewed every now and then, otherwise you aren't allowed to use it anymore. Here the guidance are very strikt, I am not a musician, but a Director, Producer, Writer, Actress but a pretty new one, so no, I am not famous. ;-) And we have also a lot of guidance to follow when we produce a film or work in the theatre that no one gets hurt. No offence, Enjoy the rest of the day. ;-) Hope it makes sense what I am writing, my native language is German. My second name is really Gruber, like Hans Gruber. ;-)

@@Nightdominia Your Welcome. God, I just saw that the "auto correction" strikes bad the other day. 😂 So long you could read it. Well it is really in Germany that you have then different classifications for those licence, so it is really hard to explain to foreigners. And yes, when we are on a set or on stage we always have to fill out Health and Safety Forms. Enjoy the rest of your day.

@@andreagruber5813 It makes total sense to have multiple levels of training for explosive or caustic materials that can potentially hurt someone if not mixed/set up properly. A 80s hair band here called Great White proved that point a while back.

@@nashwhole7230 I also like Amerika better. It's an easier DVD to watch. The "making of" section of the Paris concert explained why they produced it to be choppy. It's meant to be more personal for the viewer than a straight forward concert film. I still get a headache watching it, tho.

German speaker here...There is nothing to argue... the lyrics are both crystal clear and easy to understand. I will give you a decent fully detailed explaination to wipe out every obscurities non german speakers can have about those german lyrics of that song. The lyrics of the verse are basically 2 sentences saying "You have asked me" = "Du hast mich gefragt" which is sentence Nr1 "But I didn´t reply" = "Aber ich hab´nichts gesagt" = literally translated it´s "But I said nothing" meaning in that particular context "I didn´t reply (to your question)" which is sentence Nr2 That is the verse of that song and that´s it ...verse fully explained The chorus of the song is then the old traditional German marriage vow. Where the priest or the marriage registrar is asking both of the marriage couple but each seperately at least 2 questions which have to be answered with "yes" before he declares the couple for married. And those 2 Questions are the lyrics of the chorus Chorus literally translated into English: "Do you want to be loyal for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?" "Do you want to love her for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?" But here in the song the singer Till is replying to every of both questions with a loud and clear "Nein" = "No" even said it twice for each "No, No" That is what the song is about = "At first she - ovbiously - asked him to marry her and he didn´t reply - She took that - obviously - as a Yes and at the wedding ceremony he then strongly refused to marry his girlfriend " That´s it. Song fully explained soley according to the actual written text. But what is really going on while singing the 2 sentences of the verse They split up the first sentence of the lyrics "You have asked me/Du hast mich gefragt" into single words just adding one after another in order to built a whole meaningful sentence...starting with the first word of the sentence "Du".....then repeating the first word and adding the second ...."Du hast"...repeating + adding the next word .."Du hast mich". which got repeated and then the sentence got fully finished by adding the last word .."Du hast mich gefragt" Now here is the clue..the verb "have" in 2nd person singular and the verb "hate" in 2nd person singular are sounding in German - phonetically - exactly the same but they are written differently .."Du hast"= "You have"...but "Du hasst" written with 2 "s" = "You hate" just as explaination in order to understand what´s going on. SO when they add just word after word in order to built a meaningful sentence and that sentence word progression reaches the point of "Du hast mich" then it sounds like saying "You hate me/Du hasst mich" because of the lack of further context posed till to this point and that is misleading the audience because it is just heard but not read ..and in this song it is simple a on purpose intended pure phonetic wordplay which only just works "phonetically" - and - only just makes sense in that particular context of the aftermath of what that song was about...because just in the aftermath of that song you then can say "the girl" very likely will then hate him after he replied so intensely with "No" by getting asked the marriage vow at a marriage ceremony refusing to marry her in front of all the wedding guests .in that moment that tricky wordplay/confusion of words/intended misleading (call it like you want) of "hast/have" and "hasst/hate" makes sense as well. But in fact there is no single word of "hate" in the lyrics. that misleading worked like saying in English totally out of the blue with no further context "My".."My deer".."My deer has".."My deer has huge".."My deer has huge antlers"...until I say "antlers" you will very likely think/presume I´m speaking of "My Dear having huge... ...presumed breasts or butt cheeks or teeth... what ever" and you are not thinking in the slightest about "My deer" before I say "antlers"...and the very similar thing is happening here in the lyrics..until they have not finished the whole sentence by adding the last word "gefragt/asked" everyone is falsely presuming he speaks of "Somebody who hates him" but in fact he didn´t he is just going to say "You have asked me" but the sentence wasn´t finished yet....he is just tricking the audience...and in the aftermath of the song it doesn´t matter anymore if you heard "have" or "hate" in the first place because of the context of the whole song then both make sense.

Hello trash talkers. The whole context of "du hast" also refers to the german phrase of asking someone to get married too. And in the chorus is the "nein / no". So as the progress in the lyrics shows, the singer says no to an engagement..

The "grease paint" is simply instant coffee and water. There is an old video here (from 20 years ago) on KZbin of an interview they did for Swedish TV and he explains all about the pyrotechnics, the different kinds of fuel they use depending on the desired effects, and he does some demonstrations, it's quite interesting... He didn't speak English very well back then, and I don't understand spoken Swedish, but he was talking about some powder made from the fruit of an Indian tree he uses for some effects, but also some kind of inflammable fog that is sprayed with some rotating devices, a paste that looks like toothpaste, etc. I had no idea that there were so many fuels and devices, obviously, you need some training to learn all about them, and how to use them safely. The people in the front rows say that the high flames suck all the oxygen out of the air and that it can be hard to breathe at times. Of course, it's hot, too, but the lack of oxygen is more impressive than the heat.

@headingley72
@headingley72 3 жыл бұрын
i can answer your Question on the debate, that's because the English version is just that a version it is not a direct translation so it does not represent the original German song, they can not do a direct translation of the song so they made a version that sounded good.
@TheLanceUppercut
@TheLanceUppercut 3 жыл бұрын
@@headingley72 Exactly. A direct translation to English wouldn't rhyme or fit the instrumental of the song, so they made English lyrics that fit the song. Doesn't necessarily mean the English lyrics and German lyrics are direct translations of one another. In this case, they're not. The only reason why the debate exists is because the English version exists. Especially when you bear in mind that in order for it to mean You Hate, it would be spelled Du Hasst. It's not. Hast (one S) means Have.

@@TheLanceUppercut Yeah, same with the English version of Engel, which just sounds wrong to me in English. I don't speak German fluently, but I do enjoy singing a LOT of their songs in German. "God damn, not an angel when I die" sucks compared to the original: "Gott weiß ich will kein Engel sein" (God knows I don't want to be an angel).
