It looks like the larve are developing at different rates almost exactly as they appear in decreasing order from the drawer? Could the light or heat or something be making a difference?
@AntsCanada3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the smallest brood are towards the middle (i.e. Queens #4 and #5). Not too sure if there are considerable variations in light or temperature within the small drawer the queens are kept in, which by the way is always closed except when I check up on them once or twice a week. Perhaps the few seconds of light most concentrated towards the middle of the drawer when I check up on them could impact brood development? Nevertheless, it is quite interesting to see that there is a bit of a pattern.

Do ants feel "LOVE"? From a purely biological and chemical perspective, we can answer that with another question: Is OXYTOCIN present in ants? Oxytocin is the "love hormone" present in some mammals, such as humans, that gives us our ability to bond with one another. If ants produce their own type of oxytocin, then YES, ant love forever!
@urbannanni58643 жыл бұрын
You read my mind. I'm a retired nurse who did quite a bit of time working in obstetrics and oxytocin was my first instinct. I've seen that hormone have dramatic effects in humans, so if anything would explain mommy ant love, it would have to be that.
@MetronaJ3 жыл бұрын
Apparently the answer is sort of They have something similar in inotocin
@diegobrando34093 жыл бұрын
Well yes. Of course. Ants in recent studies have proven that ants pass the mirror test. Meaning they are aware of themselves, which by proxy would mean they have more complex feelings like love. So since ants are aware of themselves, it means they actively make the choice to sacrifice them selves for the colony on feelings for their mother and sisters rather than instincts and logic.

Time to destroy your day! The largest the animal, the more it cares about its baby. Larger animals rely on quality for their baby and they do what humans do. Smaller animals rely on quantity to insure that the species will continue to exist. That means that the queen cared about the larvae in work terms not mother terms

Perhaps your motto should be: “it’s ant mother love forever”, since her colony consists of all her children. It is fascinating that she actually destroys (sacrifices) a part of her body to feed her babies. Most mothers will usually sacrifice eating herself so her children can eat, but these mom’s go beyond that. There is no stronger bond in life than a mother’s love for her little ones. It is truly a beautiful thing to watch: that of a mom feeding and caring for her young with such tenderness. Even in ants.

I think what surprised me the most in this video was less the act of the queen feeding her child, but rather the intricate detail of the queen's mouthpart itself. I used to think that the ant pincers were like a sideways mouth, like a beak or teeth, since the pinsers cut and hold things like teeth do. But this showed me that the mouth is more behind and under the pincers, and are surrounded in many tiny... arms? I guess they would help to pull food in towards the mouth in the centre, like with octopus' tentacles, but it was a surprise to see thanks to the awesome camera you've got.

Very cool! I'm so glad that you got this om video! As for ants feeling love, I would say so! This is indeed amazing footage. Congratulations with filming these moments of ‘ant tenderness ‘. I do have a question. There is no poop in the test tubes. The ant queen and her brood must produce some waist. Is it eaten by the queen in order to keep the chamber clean ? I know cats and birds eat their newborns poop to keep the nest clean and to not attract predators…
@AntsCanada3 жыл бұрын
Here's an amazing fact! Ant larvae don't poop. The waste collects inside their bodies and is expelled as a dry fecal pellet right when they become cocoons (inside the cocoon) and often appears as a little black dot on the cocoons. Some ants that don't form cocoons like fire ants simply collect the meconia and dump it somewhere. Helps keep things clean. As for the queen, not sure but I don't see any bathroom area. I assume she eats her poop.

That is really cool. I've learned so much about ants from this channel. Glad YTs algorithm suggested this channel to a few years ago. And though I don't really want to have an indoor ant colony, I appreciate the local wild colonies near my home as much as the orb weavers and their amazing webs they spin. :D

This is prove that all animals can evolve to be like us humans. An advanced society of beings doing more than what our DNA tells us what we should do. How do I know this? The ants are showing emotion to each other. They can feel what is happening around them, and react like we do. For some, they do it everyday like we do. For others, they just need the perfect environment to unlock their emotions, and ability to evolve.

Ants can do some pretty violent and mindless stuff, but at the same time, humans have done a lot of things like that throughout history. And while ants are definitely not as smart or intelligent as humans on an individual level, and don't have the same range or as complex of emotions or thoughts, to a certain extent, I'm sure they have some form of love and fear, and sometimes they can do some pretty cool and seemingly smart and mindblowing stuff! Ant love forever! ♥🐜♥

Question: Once you expand their area, rare you going to mix the queens and first workers together? or is that not how it works?
@theoneandonly-13313 жыл бұрын
Depends, sometimes queens mix colonies and become super colonies. Sometimes they don't and go to war, killing each other. So I wouldn't risk it and try when you can grow and have a great colony without mixing and risk death.

No I wouldn't mix them, it's not a good idea to do that, they are Individual colonies, housed in different terrariums, normally when ants meet in the wild they fight, there's only a few exceptions to this, if ants share the same saliva/ pheromones when they perform tropholaxus they know that they are relatives and dont fight, there's videos about this on the internet you can watch, its very Interesting
