KingOfTheCairns maybe it would be interesting if ayoade had a personality, all he does is speak in a dull slow voice, hardly groundbreaking is it?
@BennHaze6 жыл бұрын
I think that's because most people look to who they find funny as an example, so they slightly take on a similar persona (because its proven to work). In the comic strip doc they talk about how Seinfeld was unlike everybody else and then eventually all new stand ups were like him
@tsukimarushinji94335 жыл бұрын
@@markzomm1309 it's actually quite new and brilliantly clever and it's becoming more and more well known. It's that style of comedy that inspired captain raymond holt in brooklyn 99. It's unique because it gets everyone involved in the joke. It immediately opens so many avenues for the other characters and people to react to as well as yourself.

This is hilarious if you've seen a lot of Ayoade in more recent years, cause his entire comedy act is built around him being all uptight and dorky and then here he is just dancing on an imaginary pole
@ainstainify6 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I tend to believe that his role in IT crowd is what influenced his comedic style substantially. Somehow Moss became his persona. Although he is definitely like him in his personal life (to a lesser degree perhaps).

I feel like the standard Richard we see is an exaggerated character kind of based off moss because it’s what people found funny. Watching IT crowd bloopers you can see him not being his ‘dignified character’ because it’s not being broadcasted and sometimes he breaks character on game shows. I feel like it’s more of this alter ego that he plays for the cameras because he seems quite private. Don’t get me wrong I find him very funny and I think he just sticks with what works and I like that it adds a layer of mystery that makes clips like these even more interesting.

The thing is that he’s a Woody Allen fan, and Woody Allen himself was someone who played a shy and neurotic character instead of actually being that himself. So I feel like this is mainly influenced from that.

@pausebeforeviewtube6 жыл бұрын
It's not. It's deeper than many of his characters. He often changes his pitch (and, to some extent, his timbre) for characters. Moss and Learner are quite high, while Saboo is at the lower end of his range (and also less nasal). Interestingly, his voice on panel shows actually sits a little higher than this, so he may have spoken in a slightly deeper voice when he was younger and doing standup to project an air of confidence while he was feeling nervous and unsure.

@daniellaumney4823 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe this was before he started wearing glasses. In the description box, it says this stand up video was from 2003, and I think before he started playing Moss in The IT Crowd in 2006, he played some other roles in TV programmes where he wasn’t wearing glasses. I know he was definitely wearing glasses from 2006 onwards because he was wearing them nearly all the time in The IT Crowd.

He's not trying to be offbeat. He's trying to be the opposite, you insensate twit. This is the humour of a genuine social misfit trying to fit. He's liked by millions, sure, but seeming within the spectrum normal is a lifelong act that he turned from pure anxiety to comedy, like many try to do. If one thinks he's shit, one simply isn't the right kind of empath to appreciate what he is. That's ones' cross to bear. Not his.
