A blend I just discovered that I love is Old Forester 1915. The 1910 is one of my favorite bourbons. 1915 is a 50/50 blend of 1910 and 1920, so it takes all the flavors of the 1910 and cranks them up a notch with the added proof aid the 1920. Once my 1910 bottle is half gone I plan on refilling it with 1920 so the two can mingle for a lot longer than just in a glass.

Somm and Mooch, my family was in Ireland and Scotland two years for two plus weeks and we visited Jameson for the experience. It was the first day that they were releasing their first Gin from the Method and Madness team. My wife and two daughters love Gin so they were excited and we all tasted the Gin. However, I was captivated by all the M&M Whiskeys and spent several minutes speaking to the bartender. After the tour, we also signed up for the special tasting. The bartender made it extra special with one additional whiskey to taste. It was a M&M 28 year whiskey. The color was and the nose was amazing with black pepper, oak, dark fruit and toffee. The taste was sublime with all the nose items plus dark chocolate and leather. Once finished we toured the store and bought several bottles of the new gin, special Jameson and the very bottle you are tasting in this video. It was excellent and I shared it with several serious Whiskey lovers and all loved it and were not happy it was not available in US. Nowadays I saw Total Wine has brought it to the US.

Even parts 1)Glenmorangie Quinta Rubin, 2) Glenlivet Captain's Reserve (cognac finish) and 3) Dalmore 12....so you get a Port finish, Cognac finish and Sherry finish all together. Blending is a great way to use all of those Ballantines bottles you got as gifts from your friends. It takes up flavor ridiculously well. Do something like 75% Ballantines, 25% Laphroaig QC and a teaspoon or two of port/sherry (let's pretend the cask was wet 😉), let it sit for a week and you've got yourself a nicely drinkable table whisky.

Recently I finished off a Glenlivet 18 and Nikka from the Barrel by mixing it 75% Glenlivet and 25% Nikka - It keeps the nice sweetness, and you still get the floral notes from the Glenlivet, but also the nice smoky finish of the Nikka. It also keeps a bit of the higher proof zing from Nikka. The sweet to smoky is a new pallet that I am enjoying.

This one comes from Dr. Don Livermore, master blender of the Hiram-Walker distillery in Windsor, Ontario aka where Lot 40 and J.P. Wiser's are made: 2 parts J.P. Wiser's 18-year-old + 1 part Lot 40. This is the closest the public can get to recreating the permanently-discontinued and beloved J.P. Wiser's Legacy recipe. For extra zing, use Cask Strength Lot 40 (Canada only). It might be very difficult to find Wiser's 18 outside of Canada, and Lot 40 is available in SOME places but still not as broadly as, say, Crown Royal.

Not my best blend (that one involves a two very local craft distilleries) but Dewars Caribbean rum cask with equal part Scapa the orcadian really plays up the pineapple notes, call it Viking Rum. If you have to go a bit heavier on one of the two, definitely lean towards the Scapa, which is a more well-polished whiskey. The Dewars rum cask is still a bit rough around the edges. Honestly if I had another rum cask finished whiskey in my collection is swap it for the Dewars in this blend

@SuvinRK
@SuvinRK 3 жыл бұрын
IIRC the names of the 3 cuts are heads, hearts, and tails. And from my limited knowledge, I think you get different characteristics that you can blend together using the cuts, specifically the hearts and tails. Also iirc, heads are never used because it's methanol and methanol isn't the alcohol you're after for drinking. The alcohol for drinking is ethanol. Hope this is of some use! Additionally, a search using the terms "heads hearts tails", "heads hearts tails distilling" or something similar will provide some good resources for better answers to your questions.

@@SuvinRK Actually, the stuff you always throw out that has the methanol and other crap is called the foreshots and comes before the heads. The heads cut is things you CAN drink without fear of toxicity, but it's the highest-proof cuts and they're often sharp and jagged compared to the smooth hearts. Some distillery profiles might include taking cuts into the early heads for a bit of edge, but just like the tails cut there's a point where it just tastes bad and you don't want it.

The thing about the TP direction, is that if you have cats or toddlers or both, you will want to switch the TP around the other way. That way if they spin it they are rolling it up and not down.

I do something sorta similar to this blend. A full pour of Bruichladdich unpeated with a two tea spoons of lagavulin 8yr

I for one love the blending whiskies I do not like, but the blends work. 1. I do not like JackDaniels basic (which I tend to get due to non-whisky friends) 2. I do not like BigPeat (even thou I love other peaty stuff), but... Just pour a normal dram of JD, add a drop or two of BigPeat... oh boy that is an awesome peated woody bourbon, with some citric notes! I only tried BigPeat atm, but believe it would work with other peaty whiskies.

70% Glenlivet 12, 15% Laphroaig 10, and 15% Ardbeg Wee Beastie. I call it "Fire Sale at the Hospital Gift Shop" because of how floral it is from the Glenlivet and then the iodine and smoke from the Laphroaig and Ardbeg.

Balcones and Craigellachie is great (50/50 or 70/30) Making your own JW Green label is fun as there are typically Linkwood, Craggenmore, Talisker and Caol Ila available (Diago or preferably independent bottle) Mixing almost anything with Mellow Corn is fun. There is this corn liquor, Nixta that is really nice mixing 50/50. I call it the Corn Hub 🙄

All The Islay's: 1/3rd Ardbeg 10, 1/3rd Laphroiag (I only had select but I think 10 would be fine), and 1/3rd Lagavulin 16 I'm poor and I'm almost out of Lagavulin 16 ($99 a bottle here) and yes, I know this isn't actually ALL of the islay's, but it's the only three I can find/afford

What I would really like to see is a good blend using wee beastie. I love all ardbeg but find the beastie needs something more. Funny enough watching this episode I just mixed 2/3 ardbeg an oa with 1/3 cardhu 12 is pretty nice but needs something else to maybe add a vanilla background note

Is there any consequences if I were to blend and bottle a favorite, you know for easy pours in the future? Or is it best just to blend in the glass when you want to drink it?

Blend in a bottle for the future. I've done a little and from what I've seen, letting it sit for atleast a week allows everything to mix and settle.
